Summer strips fashion down to its essentials. Once the temps climb into the 90s, there’s nowhere to hide behind clever layering or a great coat. The clothes either work—or they don’t. Even celebrities start making practical decisions.

Yes, summer celebrity style means Birkins swinging through the Hamptons, vintage jewelry sparkling on the Italian Riviera, and yacht wardrobes photographed from every possible angle. But beneath all the high-impact looks, I’ve noticed that the best-dressed rely on remarkably simple clothes. Lately, that means the babydoll dress.

It’s airy, unfussy, and far easier to wear than its overly sweet reputation suggests. You throw one on, add a great pair of shoes, and never regret the decision. Maybe that's why celebrities can't stop wearing them. It's certainly why I've been living in mine.

The Baby Doll Dress, Without the Baby Talk

Anyone who knows me knows I am not a jeans person. Stiff denim and a 100-degree subway platform are simply not a combination I’m interested in exploring, which is why dresses make up most of my warm-weather wardrobe.

The babydoll, though, is not a one-look-fits-all proposition. Olivia Rodrigo leans into its youthful edge in Sandy Liang and Chloé, while Elle Fanning makes it feel refined in Chanel. It can channel Courtney Love's '90s grunge just as easily as it can feel clean, minimal, or romantic. Few trends have appealed to women with such wildly different personal styles—which may be why the babydoll dress survives every fashion cycle.

The difference usually comes down to the shoes. Celebrities are grounding theirs with slim flip-flops, Mary Jane pumps, and even combat boots—anything that adds a little friction to the dress’s more innocent reputation. The silhouette may look specific, but it gives you plenty of room to make it your own.

How I Style It

I almost never wear this white Merlette dress without someone stopping me to ask where it's from. The tiered cotton creates beautiful movement, while the knee-length hem keeps it from feeling overly precious. I styled it with leather fisherman sandals to ground all that volume, plus an easy summer tote, gold jewelry, sunglasses, and a striped knit thrown over my shoulders for overzealous air conditioning.

That's what I love about the babydoll dress: Rihanna, Sabrina Carpenter, and I couldn't style it more differently, yet the silhouette somehow works for all of us.

This Bernadette dress is my case for investing in one really beautiful babydoll dress. I wore it to a daytime garden party with Roger Vivier kitten heels, but I'd pack it just as quickly for a cocktail wedding with a chic black blazer thrown over the shoulders and an embellished clutch. Last weekend was huge for celebrity style—and no, I’m not just referencing the debut of Taylor Swift’s "magical" Dior wedding dress. For three days straight, A-listers took over vacation locales from the Hamptons to the Italian Riviera, with summer’s biggest sandal trends in tow. For this fashion editor, there’s one trend that’s a surprising step above the rest: the flip-flop renaissance.

I know, I know; some city-dwellers might find this sacrilege. But hear me out…

The Haute Flip-Flop Trend

I used to be staunchly anti-thong sandals, whether they were The Row’s $790 status pair or insider-beloved steals from Old Navy. But there’s been a flip-flop vibe shift that has me, well, flip-flopping on my old grudge. A-listers have been thwacking their way through NYC and LA in black leather pairs with thick straps (from Reformation and A.Emery), to offset an oversize suit or a ’90s-coded slip skirt and tank. They’re also trying out rainbow-colored jelly thongs from Ancient Greek Sandals and bitchy kitten heels—pairs that have a lot more personality than you may remember.

It’s the styling—always in high contrast to more formal pants or an off-kilter dress—that’s won me over. I’d underestimated flip-flops’ versatility in Real Outfits, and I’m hardly the only one: Google reports searches for flip-flops recently hit an all-time high in 48 out of 50 states.

How I Style the Flip Flops Trend

I knew I had to bring this look to the newsletter when a stranger on the street stopped me to say I was her new maternity style inspiration. (Whoever you are—thank you!) In the spirit of celebs like Bella Hadid and Ciara Miller, my flip-flops outfit is all about covert comfort. The top’s pretty embroidered sleeves balance its easy-breezy open front; the skirt is my longtime favorite for no-brainer mixing and matching. But the sandals are my trade secret for getting in steps on hot summer days: They have the subtlest bit of arch support, and they’re even better for my feet than slippers.

This is my homage to a Barbara Palvin look that’s been stuck in my head since Cannes. Little kitten-heel thong sandals can make even the comfiest summer separates, like an oversize button-down shirt and capri pants, feel more photo-worthy. I’m keeping up the French Riviera energy in my neck of the woods with a silk scarf tied over my hair and a sculptural pendant necklace peeking out from under my top.

Sunday, June 21, marked the longest day of the year, meaning the most daylight hours to sample the straw totes, breezy dresses, and surprisingly chic flip-flops celebrities have been wearing all June. Personally, I spent the weekend in the easy pants trend that’s making work outfits feel even comfier than pajamas.

Ahead, I'm sharing exactly how A-listers wore easy pants first—and how I make them work at 37 weeks pregnant. Unlike other summer trends, easy pants work for all ages, sizes, and even as maternity clothes. Can your average summer micro shorts say that? Didn't think so.

The Easy Summer Pant Trend

According to Kendall Jenner, Anne Hathaway, Gigi Hadid, and every style writer I follow on Substack, it’s the summer of the Big Easy Pant. These are the wearable equivalent of an Aperol Spritz (or your summer cocktail/mocktail of choice) on a Summer Friday patio at sunset: simple and refreshing, totally relaxed.

Of course, when styled with a Balenciaga Rodeo bag or an elite summer sandal, even the most laid-back linen pants still manage to look dressier than they feel. And while Jenner’s as loyal as ever to The Row’s quadruple-digit take, I’ve found dozens of others for much less.

How I Style It

For me, these under-$100 easy pants and structured top were a comfortable-yet-polished pairing for my last day at the office before maternity leave. (Elastic waistbands and roomy shirts are my wardrobe MVPs right now.) For anyone else, a poplin top plus a linen pant will equal a no-brainer outfit for commuting when it’s hot as hell outside. A beachy escape from the city isn’t in the cards for me this summer. But I’m bringing the coastal energy to upcoming stroller walks through the park with these breathable gingham easy pants and equally Cape Cod-coded accessories.

With a decade of fashion reporting under my belt, I’m pretty wary of promises brands make with flashy product names and cutesy influencer campaigns. I’ve tried “dream” ballet flats that cause nightmare-inducing blisters, and “essential” tees that unravel after a few washes. I’ve spotted Alex Mill’s under-$200 tote, dubbed the “Perfect Weekday,” here and there around New York City. But recently, the cargo-style canvas tote has made some serious inroads with women like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kaia Gerber, and Emma Chamberlain.

None of these women play by the same styling rules or shop at the same brands. And yet! Each one looked at the same laptop-friendly, double-handle tote bag and found a reliable vessel for carrying…whatever it is celebrities carry between their version of a work day and errands. (Erewhon groceries and an It-lit book, maybe?) Plus, the utility pockets and custom monograms seamlessly move from closet to closet, outfit to outfit. Naturally, my interest was piqued. If a growing cohort of multi-generational cool girls says this is the bag to carry, I had to swap out my nylon tote and try it myself.

How I Style It

My first week as an Alex Mill tote owner has been filled with work appointments, doctor’s appointments, and appointment TV. (Love Island is big in my house.) So I’ve been carrying this bag alongside outfits that strike the same work hard, play hard—but not try-hard—balance. Usually, that’s a billowy button-up in a bright color on top, and every stylish mom’s favorite drawstring taffeta pants on the bottom. (There are only a few sizes left in stock of my favorite pair, so I hunted down a more plentiful alternative at J.Crew. You're welcome!)

Don’t @ me for wearing flip-flops in the city—cool girls in Copenhagen taught me there’s nothing wrong with a comfy sandal on the go, especially when you’re expecting. Conclusion: The Alex Mill tote holds up, and I plan to go get it monogrammed ASAP.

I know this tote is technically called a “Weekday” style, but it has everything I want from a weekend pool bag, too. (That is, space for a towel, sunscreen, and my Kindle, cut from a non-fussy fabric that won’t suffer water damage in the splash zone.) I’ll spend summer Saturdays toting it to my nearest rooftop alongside a cover-up that doubles as a dress and my favorite smoothing Left on Friday swimsuit—which, BTW, is also Gwyneth Paltrow-approved.

Since we’re all friends here, I feel I can start today’s edit with a confession: I have a dress problem. There isn’t necessarily a single dress trend that’s emerging from sighting to sighting. Instead, I’m more interested in how these women pull off such easy-breezy energy regardless of the specifics. The throughline? They pick a dress with a pretty, defining detail, like a painterly print or a ruffled strap, but stick with flowing (read: well-ventilated) silhouettes. No need to worry about sweaty legs sticking to a car or subway seat here. The midi length is also the most versatile: a heel takes it to a Swift-approved NYC date night spot, while a cool sandal fits the beachy dress code of the French Riviera—or wherever you’re enjoying the first summer Friday of 2026.

How I’m Styling My Summer Dresses

My obsession with Dôen dresses like Taylor Swift’s is well-documented on Marie Claire…and all over the internet. That hasn’t changed at eight months pregnant: The comfy smocked bodices mean I can wear the same size now that I did pre-baby (and I can keep wearing them postpartum, too). Now, I’m swapping in more supportive, slip-on braided sandals and a straw tote for fresh-from-the-garden energy. If you’ve never found floral dresses groundbreaking, I have a classic white version I wear just as often (linked below!).

For all the same celebrity-favorite prints and patterns at half the price, I can’t say enough good things about Abercrombie’s current lineup. This strapless striped midi and ballet sneakers will be my plus-one for a long weekend hang in Central Park. When it cools down in the evening, I like to toss a sweater over my shoulders instead of committing to a jacket.

All spring, I've been paying special attention to the class of celebrity moms whose style has inspired me regardless of the life phase I’m in. Even with access to private cars, women like Lily Collins and Jennifer Lawrence still get a lot of steps in. They’re prone to wearing low-profile, yet supportive sneakers—just not the Sambas everyone else has been styling since 2022. I rarely catch the rich moms on my inspiration list wearing leggings. (No shame if I did, though—that’s my weekend uniform half the time, anyway!) Instead, they’ll pick out a roomy, wide-leg jean with a drawstring or elastic waistband. These have the comfort of sweats and the style up-or-down potential of a trouser. And while most rich moms are going for designer pairs by Balenciaga or Margiela, I tracked down some $150-and-under versions with the same easygoing vibe.

The Carry-It-All Bag

There’s no overstating the importance of a bag that fits it all, without weighing down an outfit. My favorite rich moms aren’t always carrying quadruple-digit totes, though. Katie Holmes has worn this buckled Madewell tote at least ten times since I started reporting at Marie Claire, and Longchamp’s Le Pliage is a time-tested favorite. (Even Gen Z is getting on board.) Dragon Diffusion is the A-Listers’ hidden favorite to find Hermès-level leather for less. As for Coach’s crochet Brooklyn? It’s my prediction for It bag of the summer camp dropoff set.

Hello again! I logged on after vacation expecting to play catch-up on all the ways celebrities have been sampling spring trends and method dressing on the Devil Wears Prada 2 press circuit. Instead, the women I keep the closest tabs on had a different update: They’ve been rallying around one great closet essential: Leset's Margo T-shirt. It's so good, even NARPs (Non-A-List Regular People) own in multiples. When I say this was the shove I needed to overhaul my basics drawer for the new season ahead, I mean it.

The Leset Margo T-Shirt

The elevated basics brand Leset has been an IYKYK favorite among well-dressed women, famous and not-so-famous, for years now. But in the past few weeks, all women like Jennifer Lawrence, Katie Holmes, Nicole Kidman, and Emma Stone wanted to wear out and about is its plain white T-shirt. Her name is Margo, and she’s a one-hundred percent cotton crewneck that hits just above the hip bones.

Near-perfect reviews from Bloomingdale’s to Amazon shed some extra light on why this shirt has managed to turn up everywhere from Holmes’s downtown mom walks to film festival red carpets and panels. It’s even made a cameo in another Harry Styles music video. The weight and handfeel of the cotton are sublime—and it’s the rare white tee that isn’t even a little sheer.

This is the part of the newsletter where I reveal I’m seven-ish months pregnant and definitely on the lookout for easy wardrobe solutions. (Surprise!) So, styling up a plain, goes-with-anything tee fills a hole in my closet by default. Here’s how I’m wearing it.

How I Style It

The Jennifer Lawrence formula—Leset T-shirt plus an easy pant and high-vamp flats—perfectly maps onto my comfort-first styling strategy of the moment. But it’s a little too chilly to make the shirt my only layer, and I want more than black and white in the mix. My solution? Pulling last summer’s scarves out of storage and tying them under a light barn jacket.

Once things heat up again, I’ll wade back into Katie Holmes territory and style my white tee with a light poplin skirt and beachy accessories. This skirt was one of my favorites pre-pregnancy, and the smocked waistband still works with a seven-months-pregnant stomach, too. And when I’m lacking the willpower to really get dressed, I can still feel like a celeb in the same T-shirt, leggings, and an A-list-approved sneaker.

Before I took off, I assembled my packing list using a few VIPs and their favorite travel shoes as my guide. Celebrity airport outfits are a tricky genre: Sometimes, stars are really just like us in a matching sweatsuit, sneakers, and a big ’ol underseat tote bag. Other times, they make choices that feel…interesting for, say, standing in the security line. I got dressed for my 7-hour flight—plus the sightseeing that would immediately follow—compelled to defend the honor of a travel shoe that usually falls in the second group: the mesh flat.

The Mesh Ballet Flats Trend

I can vividly remember the first paparazzi shot I saw of Jennifer Lawrence walking around Manhattan, toes out, in Alaïa’s mesh flats. A few years later, pedicure-forward footwear isn’t as much of a jump scare as it used to be. Everybody seems to agree mesh flats are just a cousin to a chic sandal—until the airport gets involved. Then, mesh flats are once again labeled “controversial.” That’s the word I saw thrown around online when Margot Robbie recently wore a flesh-toned Alaïa pair for her flight out of Sydney, anyway.

Honestly? I think the naysayers might want to reconsider with spring and summer travel on the horizon. If updated security guidelines say you don’t have to take your shoes off anyway, why not go for a comfy flat that can fashion-ify oversize, plane-friendly basics, like Robbie’s shorts and long-sleeve tee? And if you’re squeamish about all that foot exposure, you can always layer a coordinating sock underneath à la Selena Gomez for some texture play. How I Style It

My dream was to recreate Robbie’s outfit with the exact same shorts—but they’re long sold out, and I get pretty chilly on flights. Instead, I decided to bring the party-pajama energy, and a needed pop of color, with relaxed satin pants and a few layering basics. (And yes, I packed compression socks in my carry-on bag. As much as I’ve come around to the look of a mesh flat, I’m not keeping my feet out for the whole flight.) This way, my mesh flats functioned like an elevated travel slipper—one that transitioned easily to sightseeing.

For the rest of the trip, I’m staying true to the last edition’s word and wearing my ballet sneakers—for the most part. At dinner, I’m fine with showing a little toe alongside a textured matching set and a leather jacket. (Temps are expected to reach the 70s during the day while I’m in town.) The contrast between heavy-duty leather and these little mesh flats is *chef’s kiss.*

In one corner: High-vamp heels and Chanel pony-hair flats, shoes that look pretty…but maybe feel less-than-idyllic on your feet. In the other: The celebrity-approved sneaker trend that’s already been around the block. This spring, I’m doubling down on the latter.

The Ballet Sneaker Trend

The low-profile sneakers that ruled 2025 are back for their encore. Honestly, they deserve it. As Hailey Bieber, Harry Styles, Rihanna, and anybody walking outside in range of a paparazzi camera proves, this is a sneaker trend even non-sneakerheads can appreciate. The slimmer, foot-hugging silhouette is easy to style with dresses, skirts, and pants of all lengths; most variations are way kinder to your feet than an actual ballerina flat.

Ballet sneakers are one of the rare instances where splurging on a celebrity’s exact designer pick feels worth it to me. (The silhouettes are so versatile, the cost-per-wear justifies itself faster than most other shoes in my closet.) But if you’re sticker-shy, never fear: I’ve seen just as many replicable outfits with under-$150 Pumas and Vivaias as I have with runway brands.

There’s also some chatter in my fashion circles about a new sneaker brand called Pane, which specializes in funky color combinations. And even though I’ve counted four pairs in my closet so far, I’m definitely planning to make room for the Simone Rocha Adidas when they drop this fall.

How I Style the Ballet Sneakers Trend

Right now, I’m dressing for that awkward, not-quite-spring season in New York. Easy-on, easy-off layers are essential; so are comfortably padded shoes for longer walks around the neighborhood. Lately, I’ve been reaching for this white Puma ballet sneaker when I want to colorblock with a layered sweater and T-shirt. It’s slim and discreet under wide-leg trousers and jeans alike, and the soles have a hint of extra cushioning that my old Repettos simply can’t compete with. Pro tip: the cutesy, criss-cross straps at the top can easily tuck into the footbed if you don’t want to be too Angelina Ballerina about it.

I admire people who can pull off a chunky sneaker with a girly dress, like the entire Cecilie Bahnsen front row. Those people aren’t me! I prefer a slimmer, neutral ballet sneaker with my work dresses and spring skirts. This is an outfit I wore on a recent false spring day in NYC, and that I’m packing for a trip to Paris next week. Polished enough to blend in with the local French girls (and in their favorite brands, too); comfortable enough for a full day’s food tour.

It doesn’t matter if you’re an avowed minimalist like Zoë Kravitz or you’re following the Katie Holmes template for cool-mom styling: You’ll want an effortless white midi skirt in your spring arsenal. They might seem too pristine to try on the rack, but a few minutes scrolling through celebrity street style can convince you of their staying power and everyday wearability. (No wonder they’ve come back every spring since 2023.) My favorite celeb follows are wearing them right now with button-up cardigans and trenches on the East Coast; out in LA, they’re trying cropped tees and color-block flats.

I now have at least five variations in my own closet, each with a slightly different fit and details (like pleats, lace, or tiered layers). Honestly, I wear the white skirt trend way more than jeans. Here’s how.

How I Style It

Lest you think the white skirt trend is too easy-breezy for work, I’m starting off with a version I’ve worn everywhere from the front rows at Copenhagen and New York Fashion Week to my weekday commutes to MC HQ. The key is balancing the prancing-through-a-field energy of a tiered, pintuck skirt with the more structured top and serious (but still walkable!) flats. Most days, I’ll go for a more classic striped button-down in blue, pink, or green. This week, I broke in an under-$100 version of another spring trend I know I’ll wear for seasons: the shirt with a built-in matching scarf.

That said, my white skirt collection gets the most mileage on the weekends, when I want to be more relaxed but still feel put-together. It’s still a little chilly in New York City, so this outfit brings together a cozy top layer with a skirt and sneakers that can handle 15,000-step errand days. On top, I’ll add a false spring-proof trench coat and a shoulder bag.

In moments like these, I’m scanning A-listers’ outfits for styling tips that can bring my outfits together faster than you can say “Birkin bag.” And that, my friends, is how I landed on the one-step accessory trend ahead for this week’s edit. No, it’s not an elusive, five-figure bag—it’s a lot more accessible.

’90s-inspired cords with a big pendant are the necklace du jour among the most stylish women I follow. While the look got a stamp of approval on the Spring 2026 runways (meaning, a lot of great options to shop are hitting stores now), celebrities soft-launched their comeback as early as last summer. The likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and the aforementioned Hadid sister are still very much on board. It’s the last step to making everything from a white button-up shirt or crewneck sweater to a slinky, deep-V top look that much more intentional.

The mixed materials and earthy pendants tend to feel very boho. (Another celeb-backed trend that hasn’t died down yet.) But as you’ll see with the way I style them, you don’t have to be a free spirit counting down to Coachella to wear them.

How I Style It

I call this the Olsen Tuck: necklace version. Instead of leaving my hair nonchalantly inside my sweater or coat, I tuck the back half of a pendant inside a tall rollneck and let the charm or stone peek out. With billowy pants and a nice leather loafer, it’s the finishing touch to an outfit that looks considered, but is very, very comfortable.

I still spend a lot of time in virtual meetings. My shorter pendant necklace with a big, unmistakable stone has lately been a compliment magnet in back-to-back Zooms. This Líe Studio version joined my collection right around Copenhagen Fashion Week, and has been my favorite finishing touch ever since. I love how the silver chain coordinates with my piercings—and how it shines against a cool-toned top.

Through it all, I’ve been pounding the pavement between shows with the help of an It girl swap for classic ballerinas: the high-vamp flats trend. Trust me when I say this is an extremely versatile—and surprisingly comfortable—shoe on the rise in street style.

Once Marie Claire fashion editor Lauren Tappan highlighted high-vamp flats in a recent story, I couldn’t stop noticing them. Gigi Hadid slips into her Mansur Gavriel pair between modeling gigs, while Kendall Jenner takes The Row’s out to dinner even more often than her sister, Kylie. Harry Styles even wore a version onstage at the Grammys this month. (He chose a bow-topped pair by Dior, of course.)

Since this shoe trend is defined by the shape—a high-on-the-foot rise that our editors have started calling a “turtleneck flat”—there’s no limit on the colors, patterns, and price points to shop it. The metallic leather below is high on my wish list. But I’m already styling a more low-key romantic pair…

How I Style It

Comfort is my head-to-toe priority when I’m reporting from New York Fashion Week. I didn’t want to be too neutral with my COS sweatshirt, extra-wide Madewell trousers, and scarf coat, so I added Margaux’s high-vamp flats. Any time I glanced down at the dusty rose shade, I smiled: for the pop of color, and for the padded footbed that felt sooo good even after a long day on my feet.

I’m also a little in love with how this high-rise shoe looks with a contrasting sock underneath. So for my NYFW-approved take on a Valentine’s Day outfit, I’ll stack red socks under my black flats—before stacking on the rest of my favorite elevated basics for the shows.

Greetings from snowy Denmark! It’s Halie, back to writing The A-List Edit after a packed week of Copenhagen Fashion Week runways. Diving back into the international style circuit felt like the right time to test a layering technique I see well-dressed Danes wearing every time I visit—and that I’ve noticed stateside A-listers warming up to once again. Brace yourselves: Dresses and skirts layered over pants are very much back. But trust me, you can pull them off.

I know this will trigger memories of cringy, early-aughts Disney Channel red carpets for my fellow millennials. Fear not. The 2026 way to double up on lower layers isn’t taking notes from 2006.

These days, Anne Hathaway, Kendall Jenner, and Jennifer Lawrence are instead trying Scandi-inspired sets that combine longer, fluid skirts, hitting at about the knee, with a coordinating trouser. Kaia Gerber has used several Los Angeles pap walks expressly for modeling pants with a skirt sewn into the waistband.

The key, reaffirmed by nearly every runway show I’ve watched this week (and more), is sticking to similar color stories for the skirt and trousers—and not going too overboard with the rest of your styling. On top, all you really need is a coordinating crewneck sweater (for winter, like Hathaway’s) or a plain tee (like Lawrence’s, for spring and summer). Celebs tend to mix and match their own pieces, but a lot of designers jumping on the trend have done the layering for us already.

How I Style It

I checked into my fashion week HQ (1Hotel Copenhagen—very close to the city’s best vintage, for my fellow shopaholics-slash-travelers) with a single objective: pull off this trend like a local (or a recent celebrity convert). As a skirt-over-pants novice, I went for a hybrid option from COS that stacked my separates for me. All I had to do was choose a complementary sweater and shoes that would stand out in the slush.

It’s a little bit of extra fabric, but it’s so much more interesting than plain pants. A guest making her way to the elevator while I was snapping photos said she wanted a pair, so it's safe to say this look works. Once I started dashing between shows, I added an oversize faux fur coat and a knitted balaclava: two street style staples in this part of the fashion world.

When I get home, I’m planning to double-dip for New York Fashion Week—this time by stacking one of my favorite pleated skirts over a wide-leg trouser like the ones below. I think my counterparts from LA to Copenhagen would approve.

No, we’re not back in the ‘90s, but it sure feels like it. A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Kendall Jenner, and Rihanna are bringing back retro cigarette jeans—and vintage enthusiasts everywhere are rejoicing. Defined by a cylindrical silhouette, this style offers a streamlined fit that’s polished and uncomplicated.

Here, Lawrence puts a contemporary twist on the nostalgic look with a calf-hair coat, a floral embroidered cardigan, and a pair of sculptural black heels.

How I Style It

I must admit, initially I was hesitant to try out these slender pants (I’m more of a baggy jeans gal). However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed wearing them, as they’re not constricting at all. I balanced out the look with an oversized button-down top, a roomy sweater, and a billowing leather bomber jacket.

Wide-Leg Jeans

For this outfit, I opted for a double-trend moment, styling my dark-wash jeans with a collarless coat (a ‘60s-centric outerwear trend that’s taking the fashion set by storm). A skin-tight turtleneck and a sumptuous suede tote helped to elevate the look to prim-and-proper heights.

Happy New Year! My coworkers at Marie Claire have already made their predictions for 2026’s biggest trends. (Get ready: Beach-inspired bags for everywhere but vacation are on deck.) According to A-listers’ street style, there isn’t a major vibe shift headed for the sneaker aisle. Instead, it seems like a few breakout sneakers from 2025 are set to continue their reign. The Adidas Tokyo Sneaker

Jennifer Lawrence has dabbled in all sorts of Adidas Samba-alternatives, from Vans Old Skools to Nike V2Ks. But by my tally, the pair she wore more than any other in 2025 was the Adidas Tokyo. I can see the appeal: They’re low-profile with a pretty rounded toe box, like a ballet flat gone into sport mode. Since ordering a pair last fall, I wear mine almost as frequently as Lawrence does.

The On Cloud Sneaker

Every time Kaia Gerber or Zendaya was spotted en route to Pilates last year, they were wearing one of On’s pumped-up white sneakers. (Z even designed her own rendition that promptly sold out.) I can confirm after working them into my marathon training routine that they’re as cloud-soft as the name suggests—and they’ll be the elite edition to many more celebs’ workout rotations in the year ahead.

Let’s start with the all-time classic: the double-breasted wool coat. I share Sabrina Carpenter and Selena Gomez’s affinity for Aritzia’s Babaton Slouch Coat. (In fact, I’ve owned mine for four years now.) This cut and a neutral shade of wool works with everything from walking-the-dog sweatpants and a hoodie to engagement party satin dresses and heels. Already this winter, Carpenter has worn hers twice with jeans and a cable knit sweater. My own styling is so similar, I’ll spare you the extra photo.

The Cozy-Girl Coat: The Scarf Coat Trend

Multitasking scarf coats have been a fixture in Scandinavian style for years. This winter, Kendall Jenner, Elsa Hosk, and Bella Hadid are making sure they’re just as popular in the States. And thank goodness: The draping of the fabric looks elegant without even trying. Many of the best options come in earth-tone wool blends, but more adventurous shades like Jenner’s sage green are out there, too.

How I Style the Scarf Coat Trend

Speaking of Elsa Hosk…I picked up this cream scarf coat from her label, Helsa, two years ago, and haven’t looked back. It’s my favorite coat for leveling up jeans and a cozy sweater; it’s also my go-to for winter work trips, when I want to look polished right off the plane (like in this shot from Copenhagen Fashion Week!).

The Cool-Girl Coat: The Bomber Jacket Trend

If it’s a day that ends in -y, someone famous is wearing an oversize leather bomber jacket: Hailey Bieber in Saint Laurent for NYC press, shown here; Rihanna in fire-engine red Celine for a CVS run; Taylor Swift in Madga Butrym for one of her highly-photographed girl dinners. Aside from looking downright sleek, these styles are warmer than they look (especially if you pop a cashmere or some heat-tech on underneath).

How I Style the Bomber Jacket Trend

The women above layer leather on leather with a sharp-as-knives boot. My style is a little quieter, so I take my leather bomber to work with a preppy midi skirt, layered cashmere, and suede boots. (Plus, fleece-lined tights underneath!)

The Rich-Girl Coat: The Faux Fur Coat Trend

This is probably the least mission-critical of the It-girl coats, but it’s by far the most fun to style. As Sofia Richie Grainge proves (in one of her own designs!), all you really need to make a floor-grazing faux fur pop is a neutral knitted set and a kitten heel.

How I Style the Faux Fur Coat Trend

I take a similarly understated approach to styling my Yeti-esque faux fur—and as this snap from a work event proves, I have a tendency to keep it on inside. (It gets that many compliments!) With a lower collar, I like to team this with a high-neck sweater and a strong silver earring.

With step-and-repeat season almost wrapped for the year, celebs are changing into their comfy-cozies and offering some casual styling advice along the way. So ahead, I’m breaking down the three best celebrity sweaters of the season: two silhouettes and one It-knit worth trying now. If your sweater collection is already sorted, they’re a great last-minute gift for the stylish pop culture-obsessive in your life, too.

The Rugby Sweater

ICYMI, striped rugby sweaters are having a bit of a moment this winter, both in runway collections (Prada, Celine, et cetera) and in celebrity street style. Kaia Gerber wears hers draped across the shoulders of a plain crewneck; Hailey Bieber and Rihanna prefer cropped versions over low-rise cargos or jeans.

My favorite take has to be Gigi Hadid’s doubling-up of a warm-toned striped rugby with a contrasting striped sweater around her waist. (Can you tell she runs her own knitwear brand?) It’s preppy without going full-on Connecticut country club; a little nostalgic and infinitely easy to wear.

How I Style It

My own rugby sweater styling falls into the same “preppy with a twist” camp. I didn’t already own two complementary striped sweaters in Gigi’s vein—but I did get my paws on one of the best-selling rugby sweaters from her criminally underrated line, Guest in Residence. When I want to go a little dressier than throwing it on over jeans, I’ll layer it with a GWS (Great White Skirt) and a suede boot. I know, I know, it’s December: so I’ve got Heat Tech tights underneath.

Here, I’ve tracked down a few more sweaters I love in various stripes, fits, and price points. Note: a cotton rugby shirt is not the same as a rugby sweater! These all have a more hearty knit to stand up to winter temperatures.

The Crewneck Sweater

Crewnecks are the greatest common denominator of celebrity-approved sweaters and closets worldwide. But I’m not bringing them up because of how good they look with a white T-shirt peeking out from underneath—you know this without an A-lister’s help. I’d instead like to point out how celebs tend to pick out a crewneck when they want to dress down more elevated pieces like a holiday pump and a skirt, or feather-trimmed pants.

How I Style It

I liked the principle of teaming a slouchy crewneck sweater with a dainty slip skirt, but I wanted a bit more texture in the mix. I tapped another Lawrence-favorite knitwear brand, La Ligne, for the Val sweater, to stack over a J.Crew lace-lined slip and an oversized bomber jacket. With knee-high boots, it fit the dress code for my recent visit to the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix paddock. Back home and out to dinner with my husband, I swapped in some slingback heels.

These cozy crewnecks have the same styling-up potential—and yes, they’re great with a tee and jeans, too. (Pro tip: Turn your T-shirt backward for the optimal pop of white underneath the neckline.)

The It-Girl V-Neck Sweater

“It” is not a fashion term I use lightly…but Reformation’s Jadey cashmere V-neck has a celebrity résumé unlike any other. Taylor Swift has worn it at least twice, in two different colors; so has Jessica Alba. When Selena Gomez picks up her frequent flier miles out of LAX, it’s often in her dove grey rendition of the same oversize top.

This is a knit A-listers pick up for the vibes—like an afternoon cuddling up with The Holiday and a Christmas cookie sampler, in sweater form. (The cashmere really is that soft.) Naturally, it’s most often seen in the wild with upmarket sweatpants or leggings and shearling-lined slipper-shoes.

How I Style It

I’m also guilty of ordering this in multiple colors over the years. (With help from my trusty, under-$10 fabric shaver, my first one from four years ago still looks brand-new.) I spend most work-from-home days wearing mine with Leset lounge pants or plain-old Aerie pajama bottoms. Heading into the office, I swap in barrel-leg jeans, coordinating flats, and a sprinkling of my favorite jewelry. I think the other Ref girlies would approve.
