Fans were incredibly excited to witness Shakira's performance at the opening ceremony on June 11, while official tournament ambassador Salma Hayek made waves in a custom Gucci suit. Meanwhile, Tyla made not one but two FIFA World Cup appearances.

Tyla—who is styled by Lee Trigg—wore two totally different outfits to help launch the World Cup. Firstly, on Thursday, June 11, the South African singer performed alongside the Mzansi Youth Choir at the the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group A match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium. For the occasion, she wore a custom dress by Ellie Misner, which was inspired by the South African flag—and her manicure matched.

The halter dress featured a long neck tie and a sculptural skirt hem, and perfectly contrasted with the outfits of the Mzansi Youth Choir members behind her.

Tyla accessorized her incredible outfit with Alex Moss earrings, and a pair of Booyah mules from Jeffrey Campbell, which feature a white cut-out heel and a transparent PVC upper. The dramatic heels are available in a number of different shades and retail for $195.

The following day, Tyla appeared alongside Future—who wore a custom Louis Vuitton look—at Los Angeles Stadium for the opening ceremony ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match between USA and Paraguay.

There's nothing I love more than a good celebrity nail moment, and the 2026 Met Gala was full of them. As if I didn't already have enough nail inspiration to get me through the summer, Tyla just forced me to add yet another out-of-the-box manicure to my summer nail mood board.

For this year's event, themed "Fashion Is Art," Tyla hit the red carpet in mermaid cosplay with a Valentino dress that featured a turquoise skirt and a silver, beaded top with cutouts on the sides and back and a plunging, deep-V neckline. She wore her dark hair in a wet and wavy style with long curls, and she leaned into the body makeup trend by adding a generous amount of glitter to her torso, back, and chest areas. The whole look was a slam dunk, but what's not getting nearly enough attention is the manicure she wore for the night.

The "Water" singer complemented her gown's aquatic vibe with a stunning manicure designed by celebrity nail tech, Coca Michelle. Per an Instagram post shared by Michelle following the event, Tyla's manicure was supposed to look like embellished feathers. A close-up photo of her nails shows that Michelle added long, stiletto-shaped extensions to Tyla's fingers before filing them into the shape of feathers. She then cut into the sides of each nail to give them a more realistic shape before painting them white with a flowy, turquoise design that was topped with silver studs.

I've tuned into to several Met Gala red carpets at this point, but none of them were bursting with as many noteworthy manicures as this year's event was. Practically all of the nail looks deserved a red carpet of their own, Tyla's included. Emma Chamberlain hosted the red carpet in a custom Mugler gown inspired by a Van Gogh painting, and she wore long, watercolor-painted nails to match. Blackpink's Lisa also showed up wearing nail art that went complemented her dress; she wore chrome press-ons with silver and blue studs that mimicked icicles.

I didn't have to wait until the Met Gala or even next year's Grammys for all my favorite pop stars to gather in one room. The 2026 Billboard Women in Music Awards brought my "Liked Songs" playlist to life on April 29, with the best red carpet looks from Zara Larsson, Victoria Monét and Teyana Taylor.

Inside the Hollywood Palladium, Taylor was honored with the Visionary Award, Larsson received the Breakthrough Award, and the stars of KPop Demon Hunters’ HUNTR/X became Women of the Year. But everyone deserved honorary trophies for turning the red carpet circuit into the mini Grammys. Taylor was one of the first to arrive, trading her Golden Globe-winning, actor shoes for lace-up boots beneath an Ashi Studio gown. Of course someone had to embrace naked dressing on the red carpet. It's one of music's biggest nights, after all. Palmer got the ball rolling in a Monse Spring 2026 mini dress, featuring visible corset boning, and delicately-draped rhinestones in lieu of full-coverage fabric.

Later, the host played double-duty: She belted her heart out in a cut-out bralette and high-rise leather trousers. Stylist Molly Dickson sent Palmer out on an early-aughts note with a skintight, metallic-silver two-piece. Extra points for its matching capri pants.

Look KPop Demon Hunters fans: HUNTR/X walked their first red carpet together since the 2026 Grammys. Rei Ami led the way in an indigo, optical-illusion dress from Iris Van Herpen Spring 2019 Couture. Then, EJAE kept the sculptural theme going in a fur shawl-turned-top and a drop-waist satin skirt, both from Markgong Fall 2026. Audrey Nuna channeled her co-star's pastel color palette in an oversize, baby pink sweater and a matching tutu-tulle skirt.

At first, the patent leather sheen on Tate McRae's Elie Saab Fall 2026 dress almost looked black. Zoom in, and you'll see its floral appliqué and pencil-like skirt were a rich shade of plum.

Kali Uchis

Ruffles had a moment last night, thanks to looks like Kali Uchis's. She chose a nearly-naked corset dress, complete with visible boning, a balconette bust, and mermaid-esque lace. A baby pink take on the rosette trend tied every element together in a romantic, yet risqué bow.

Victoria Monét

The black-and-white red carpet trend won't disappear with Zendaya's The Drama press tour. Victoria Monét borught it back to life in a black bandeau bodice, plus an asymmetrical, stark-white skirt, both from Rhea Costa. Silver bangles and itty-bitty hoop earrings were her only extras, because with a dress this sleek, she didn't need them.

Laufey wearing Chloé

Chloé is a pop-star favorite this season. First, Olivia Rodrigo wore one of Chemena Kamali's boho-chic slips in her "Drop Dead" music video. Then, Laufey held down the Chloé-clad fort in a transparent Fall 2026 gown. Matching underwear emerged from beneath the slip's ruffled tiers, while the lace-trimmed, bow-tied bodice was slightly more opaque.

Cara Delevingne wearing Saint Laurent

Cara Delevingne brought menswear to the Billboard Women in Music Awards in a shoulder-padded, three-piece suit by Saint Laurent. Instead of traditional trousers, however, she tapped into the Bermuda shorts trend with a knee-grazing silhouette almost identical to Zendaya's.

Kehlani

The corset series continued once Kehlani posed for photographers. Hers was black against slightly-oversize, ivory sleeves. Then, she tucked the top into matching pinstripe trousers, which juxtaposed the femininity of her bustier.

Despite what the experts have said, I wasn't fully convinced that the lob would be the haircut of the summer (not with the bixie cut still gaining momentum), but then Tyla made a red carpet appearance this week wearing a stunning lob that made me completely change my mind.

On April 29, some of the biggest names in music assembled in Hollywood for Billboard's Women in Music event. Among them was Tyla, who attended the awards ceremony wearing an animalistic, naked dress designed by Javier Collazo, made from a variety of feathers and featuring large cutouts on the sides and in the back. For her glam, she added rhinestone studs in a pattern along the sides of her torso and back, but what really blew me away was how she styled her hair for the night.

The Truth or Dare singer has been having fun with braided hairstyles over the last several months (remember the braided bob she wore on The Tonight Show?) to the point that they've pretty much become a signature part of her look, but for the Billboard event, Tyla decided to switch things up by wearing her hair in a voluminous lob with springy wand curls.

Last year may have been the year of the cunty little bob, but favor seems to be shifting toward the long bob in 2026. “I gave Hailey Bieber a lob at the end of 2025, and it’s already been defining one of the biggest hair trends of 2026,” celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan previously told MC.

Summer's not officially here yet, but a handful of celebrity women have already made the lob their haircut of choice for the season. Katie Holmes, for example, let go of a few inches and stepped out at an event in New York City earlier this month wearing a chic, wavy lob and a slightly lighter hair color. Singer Ciara later attended the New York City premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 last week, wearing a bouncy, '90s-style lob, and a few weeks before that, Demi Lovato was also spotted out wearing a glossy, shoulder-length cut.

Lobs are perfect for summer because they're really easy to style and allow you to let go of a few extra inches of length without going too short. To get a curly lob similar to Tyla's, read ahead.

The only time I purposely unbutton my jeans is to reveal the peekaboo boxer trend. Then there's Tyla, who rarely does up her denim. It's not to tease the underwear underneath, but position her low-rise jeans even lower on her hips.

Demna's interpretation, which released with his surprise Spring 2026 collection, couldn't have been a more straightforward manifestation of the Italian phrase. Both the medium and large Borsetto Boston bags feature two elongated shoulder straps with a rectangular, zip-top tote sculpted from soft leather, suede, or monogrammed GG canvas. There's also a crossbody strap, but most Gucci girls—including Anne Hathaway—leave it at home.

The four-figure design may be brand new, but it's steeped in the label's legacy. It wouldn't be Gucci's take on the east-west trend without the iconic red-and-green "Web" stripe and the 73-year-old horsebit emblem. Both motifs were hot ticket items when they debuted, and during Tom Ford's '90s tenure as creative director. But why enlist in a Ford-era, secondhand bidding war when Demna blended the best of both worlds—noughties nostalgia and brand-new textiles—into one hero piece?

A handbag that's just as functional as it is recognizable was bound to become a collector's item among Hollywood's finest. Even so, no one could've predicted its overnight sensation status. Despite just launching in February, the Gucci Borsetto has already joined the closets of Dua Lipa, Demi Moore, Kate Moss, and more.

Dua Lipa's Gucci Borsetto made its Instagram debut on March 10, when she carried the "Dark Brown Suede" color clutch-style on top of The Attico's bomber jacket, a sheer feather-trimmed dress, and peekaboo underwear. The pop star hid the bag's horsebit and "Web" stripe under her shoulder, but its chocolatey suede and yellow gold hardware confirmed it was indeed the Borsetto.

Tyla, on the other hand, displayed her slightly-smaller Borsetto front and center. Why wouldn't she? It amplified her outfit's early-aughts aesthetic. By Paris Fashion Week, she paired the medium brown bag with an equally-nostalgic bandeau top and lace-up, army green capri pants.

According to my favorite fashion girls, I'm severely underestimating the power of tattoos. Not the wince-inducing, permanent kind, but temporary, fresh-from-a-birthday-party tattoos. First, Chappell Roan debuted faux back tattoos at the 2026 Grammys. On March 10, Tyla took tattoo styling to the next level: Her entire going-out top turned out to be a tattoo.

Tyla's Paris Fashion Week run didn't end with her final runway show. She reserved her last—and most daring—Fashion Month 'fit for Paris's Crazy Horse cabaret. Stylist Ronnie Hart sourced Maison Margiela alum Simon Carle for his signature, a tattoo-turned-shirt.

With summer around the corner—aka prime time for flashing some skin—now's his chance to expand his It-girl clientele. I'm sure Chappell Roan wouldn't say no to another back tattoo or two.

There's a new Miu Miu girl in town. On March 10, Miuccia Prada welcomed Tyla to her latest fashion show inside Paris's Place d'Iéna. The first-timer arrived in head-to-toe Miu Miu—per the dress code—plus a noughties-inspired take on the peekaboo boxers trend.

You wouldn't know the Fall 2026 show marked Tyla's Miu Miu debut. (Before now, she only wore the maison's monogram for magazine features.) Stylist Ron Hartleben dressed her like a longtime Miu Miu girl, not with the apron dress trend, but another Spring 2026 set. Tyla made a gray crewneck-tank hybrid her own by removing the runway’s baby blue button-down underneath. A two-inch band replaced a full-coverage back, which created plunging cut-outs on either side of her top.

The waistband of Tyla's indigo blue jeans drooped so low, you could see her ribbed, heather gray boxers—a peekaboo trend Miu Miu helped pioneer back on Spring 2022 runways. The South African star's pair flaunted the label's emblem in bold print, of course.

Tyla took creative liberties in the accessory department, too. Miu Miu's logo returned atop the $4,200 Vivant Leather purse—her first handbag of many from Miuccia Prada's mind. The bowling-esque, Cognac-colored bag comes in two sizes, of which Tyla chose the smaller. Even so, its elongated zipper pocket could secure a 13-inch laptop with ease.

Nina Dobrev joined Tyla in Miu Miu's front row with the same Vivant as her plus-one. The Vampire Diaries star also got the exposed underwear memo.

To finish, Tyla threw her hair in a messy bun, which turned nostalgically chic with a gray scarf-turned-headband. It wasn't on the Spring 2026 runway, but neither were her brown slingback pumps.

Tyla's look could revive peekaboo boxers for good, four years after Miu Miu made the trend a house code. The Spring 2022 show helped them rise to fame under ultra-low-slung mini skirts and shorts aplenty. By Oct. 2023, Sydney Sweeney endorsed the look at Miu Miu's Paris Fashion Week show. Fast forward to April 2024, and Tyla tested boxers-as-outerwear beneath unbuttoned jeans.

Her underwear has only gotten more daring in the years since. For example, she filmed the 2024 "Jump" music video in itty-bitty hot pants, which revealed a neon yellow G-string to match her triangle bra. Then, Tyla attended Jacquemus's Jan. 2025 fashion show in a black maxi with sleeves that stretched so low, you could see her matching thong.

Given her affinity for visible undies, it's about time Tyla joined Miu Miu's celebrity clientele. Where will her RSVP take her from here? There's a chance more underwear-forward 'fits—with Miu Miu tags—are in her future.

On day seven of Paris Fashion Week, Tyla graced Jean Paul Gaultier's Fall 2026 front row in true pop star form: Her cone bra-turned-dress paid homage to the Queen of Pop, Madonna.

Tyla attended her first Paris Fashion Week Fall 2026 show in custom Jean Paul Gaultier, featuring Lantink's take on the cone bra. 31 years after Gaultier sent the '50s-inspired bullet bustier down his Fall 1984 Barbès runway, it returned atop Tyla's tea-length, little black dress. Once ultra-pointy cones replaced traditional cups, the color story continued onto a drop-waist corset. Vertical boning drew my eye to the LBD's pleated, knee-length skirt. It seemed to be lined with voluminous petticoats, which like the bra, modernized the silhouette's '50s roots.

By tapping into the choker necklace trend, Tyla merged two of Madonna's signature eras: 1985's lace-heavy "Like a Virgin" album and 1990's cone bra-clad "Blonde Ambition" tour. To finish, the "Water" singer slipped on classic "So Kate" pumps from Christian Louboutin.

Jean Paul Gaultier was the brain behind cone bras back in the early '80s. Madonna gave the Fall 1984 design another life during her 1990 "Blonde Ambition" tour. "When Madonna first called me in 1989, it was two days before my ready-to-wear show, and I thought my assistant was joking. I was a big fan," Gaultier told The New York Times in 2020. "She knew what she wanted—a pinstripe suit, the feminine corsetry. She liked my clothes because they combine the masculine and the feminine."

While performing "Express Yourself," Madonna ditched the aforementioned pinstripe suit for a pale pink bodysuit underneath. Like Tyla's bodice, conical cups popped against exaggerated, vertical boning. The Grammy winner went skirt-less, and instead, layered black trousers underneath the lingerie. The main difference between Tyla and Madonna? The latter mononym singer cinched her already-corseted waist further with a matching belt.

Tyla's front-row 'fit marked Lantink's first official foray into cone-bra designs. So far, his 3D tributes to Gaultier's bra have widened horizontally, not vertically: See how Look 28 and 36 elongated each bust east-to-west in the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2026 show, for example. Perhaps Lantink's just building anticipation for their grand return to the runway. Either way, Madonna's influence was there in spirit.

Tyla is nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammys, making her attendance at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala all but compulsory. For the annual event, the "Jump" singer wore a plunging black gown featuring some major cut-outs.

On January 31, the performer posed on the gala's red carpet in her sleek dress, which included a low-cut torso, no sides, and cut-out hip sections. She accessorized her gown with Jacob & Co.'s Ashoka Cut Diamond and Pink Sapphire Boutique Watch and the label's Paraiba Drop Earrings.

One night earlier, Tyla celebrated her 24th birthday at the Epic Records x Hennessy Grammys Party held at Sunset Tower in Los Angeles on January 30, 2026. Her birthday party look couldn't have been more different from her red carpet gown. Instead, Tyla opted for a strapless white mini dress, which she styled with mismatching neon orange and yellow sandals.

Having worn two totally different outfits ahead of the Grammys, Tyla's fans will be eagerly awaiting her look at the awards ceremony on February 1.

Leave it to Tyla to continue reminding me that you can absolutely still enjoy how chic a bob is even while your hair is tucked away in a braided protective style. The "Chanel" singer popped out as a musical guest on the most recent episode of The Tonight Show, and her hairstyle for the occasion fully convinced me that if the braided bob was ever in need of a spokeswoman, she'd be the perfect person for the job.

Tyla appeared on the talk show on Jan. 27 wearing a two-piece Chanel skirt set that featured an off-the-shoulder cardigan and a miniskirt with matching red-and-white knitting. Underneath, she styled it with a black bra top and accessorized with pearly red and white jewelry and looped a white chain around her waist. In true Tyla fashion, her glam for the night was just as charming as her outfit. For the performance, she wore her hair in a braided hairstyle that featured small, half-braided cornrows with a side part on the left side of her head. The braids were bob length and styled with a retro, flippy curl at the ends.

This obviously isn't Tyla's first go-round with the braided bob. Back in November, she wore a similar hairstyle when she attended Glamour's Women Of The Year Awards in New York City, only that time, the braids were slightly longer and didn't have a curl at the ends. Before that, she performed at Global Citizen Festival wearing the same style.

Wearing a protective style for an extended period calls for getting creative with your styling from time to time, which, by now, Tyla seems to be a pro at. Almost immediately after performing on The Tonight Show this week, she jetted across the pond to attend Valentino's Spring/Summer '26 showcase during Haute Couture Week, and this time she swooped a few of her braids forward to create a kiss curl.

ICYMI: the bob was the haircut of 2025. It's a great way to get rid of split ends and chemical or heat damage, but it's also a powerful haircut that gives "head b*tch in charge" energy. Across the board, these pieces felt even rarer than a bespoke gown, because they were stitched with history.

One celebrity-beloved designer was the bridge that merged all step-and-repeat circuits together: John Galliano. The British creative's takeover began in February, when Keke Palmer tracked down a tangerine corset dress from Galliano's Dior tenure. Then, Wednesday actor Jenna Ortega. matched Palmer's energy in the newspaper print dress, originally worn by Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. That same month at 'Orêbella's launch party, Bella Hadid got her hands on a chainmail slip dress, courtesy of John Galliano's Fall 1997 line.. Most recently, Kim Kardashian celebrated the All's Fair Paris premiere in a satin gown Galliano designed for Dior's Spring 2000 collection.

One of stylist Law Roach's most impressive vintage pulls of 2025 came on Nov. 10, at the London premiere of Wicked: For Good. Grande arrived in an anti-Glinda black gown, piggybacking off the evening prior. It wasn't just any ballgown, but a circa-1952 design from The Wizard of Oz's Gilbert Adrian. Knowing Grande and Roach, it's on display in her mansion now that Wicked has wrapped.

For the Oct. 21 premiere of All's Fair, Kim Kardashian celebrated her 45th birthday in archival Dior by John Galliano. The SKIMS founder made headlines for sourcing the brand's Spring 2000 collection. Embroidered diagonal panels, plus a plunging neckline, added edge to the otherwise classic mermaid silhouette.

This piece originally debuted on the runway with an avant-garde jockey helmet and Dior's Saddle Bag. Kardashian, however, decided the dress was divine enough on its own.

Last May, Bella Hadid departed the Cannes Film Festival early. But she had a good reason: She had a date with her perfume brand, Ôrebella, and a piece of Cannes fashion history. Not only did Law Roach's select serve a look, it paid homage to Tron's legacy. The original 1982 sci-fi film inspired Alexander Lee McQueen to create the Fall 1999 one-piece.

(The designer created costumes for the Cowboy Carter, Renaissance, On The Run II, Foundation, and Mrs. Carter tours, after all.) In early September, she blessed her Instagram followers in a plunging copper gown from the Fall 2007 collection. It was every bit a metallic bronze moment beneath a chocolate fur coat.

She posed at the Academy Awards Nominees Dinner in a satin leafy green look, circa-Spring 1998 Couture. The shoulder-padded coat was the outfit, mainly for its pastel embroidery. Stylist Erin Walsh tracked down a crimson-red gown made of intricately-placed chiffon from top to bottom. $50,000 diamond earrings and two Serpenti rings, both from Bulgari, added some sparkle to Hathaway's singular color story.

Nearly two months before Tyla's track "Chanel" dropped, the pop star hinted it was coming at the 2025 MTV VMAs. She went pantsless in a tweed fit-and-flare top from Chanel's Spring 1993 runway. After her step-and-repeat, Hosk shared close-ups on Instagram with the caption, "Thank you, Mugler, for opening up your incredible archives for this look."

Every fashion girl—regardless of the generation—adores a tribute to Carrie Bradshaw. In May, Jenna Ortega's love letter to Carrie came in the form of Dior's newspaper dress, which she and stylist Enrique Melendez sourced for the Hurry Up Tomorrow premiere.

On Instagram, Melendez revealed the "dream come true" landed "in our hands just moments before the carpet." The John Galliano-era Fall 2000 midi "couldn’t be altered," but clearly "it was meant to be." She accessorized similarly to Carrie in Season 3, Episode 17, with strappy sandals and a pendant necklace.

It wouldn't be right to end a "Best Vintage Looks" round-up without featuring Zendaya. Compared to 2024's red carpet circuit, her archival looks were fewer in number. But after the 2025 Met Gala, she traded her Bianca Jagger-inspired white suit for a rare Patrick Kelly gown. Not a sequin was out of place atop the floral strapless dress. Even the burgundy feather shawl—another Patrick Kelly pick—appeared spotless.

It's a rite of passage for pop stars to stroll through airports with a rare handbag in tow. Everyone from Rihanna and Dua Lipa to Blackpink's Lisa and Tyla treat four-figure finds as carry-ons. The latter frequent flyer is keeping the tradition alive with a beloved Louis Vuitton collaboration.

On December 6, the "Water" singer touched down in Mumbai, India, dressed in an oversize white T-shirt and black sweatpants. Tyla would've blended in with the sea of fellow travelers without her accessories, but her limited-edition Louis Vuitton bag immediately revealed her identity. She carried a monogrammed Speedy 30, courtesy of the label's collaboration with Takashi Murakami. Louis Vuitton and the Japanese artist have created six collections together since the debut launch in 2003. Tyla's exact Speedy 30 model was introduced two decades ago and once again in late 2024. Zendaya showcased the re-issued top-handle style in the corresponding Dec. 2024 campaign.

Tyla's rendition appears to be a circa-2003 creation, judging by its yellow gold feet, double top handles, and single crossbody strap. The lambskin leather exterior, on the other hand, looked good as new. Monogrammed, multi-color stars and "LV" logos decorated the entire zip-up duffle, which became the brand's best-selling motif in the early aughts. Today, pre-owned Murakami Speedy 30s would set you back upwards of $2,600.

Channeling her inner Rihanna, Tyla paired the fashion girl favorite with statement Converse sneakers. Tattoo-inspired embroidery gave them the Y2K-coded charm you know and love Tyla for. Altogether, her sneakers-and-purse uniform felt right up RiRi's alley. The Grammy winner started collecting Louis Vuitton Murakamis in 2008, but this year, the same multicolor model in black joined her closet. Its rainbow-colored print shined just as bright as Tyla's Speedy. Perhaps Rihanna inspired Tyla's airport look. "I just wanted to be her," Tyla shared in a March 2024 radio interview.

In April 2025, the "Umbrella" singer ran errands in a gray sweatsuit, purple Puma Speedcats, and the aforementioned Speedy 30. Nowadays, Rihanna's Speedy sells secondhand for $4,800, almost twice the price of the white rendition. The $120 sneakers weren't nearly as rare as Tyla's Converses. Why? They're still shoppable. Even so, each elongated tongue confirmed they hailed from a Fenty collaboration.

At this point, the Louis Vuitton x Murakami Speedy has earned as many air miles as Tyla (and then some). Vintage and re-issued versions have popped up on the arms of Kendall Jenner, Ariana Grande, Kylie Jenner, and even Zendaya. (Being the campaign star gave her first dibs on the sold-out Side Trunk.)

By now, the Oct. 2025 Artycapucines VII collection is terribly tricky to track down. But judging by the success of Louis Vuitton and Murakami's multiple collabs, another sequel could already be in the works.

I'm actually impressed by the amount of ways Tyla has managed to experiment with protective styles just in the last month. In late October, for example, the "Chanel" singer was photographed at the Glamour Women Of The Year Awards in New York City, where she was seen wearing her hair in a half-braided hairstyle with half-done cornrows on one side and silky hair extensions on the other, as well as extensions at the back of her head. This week, she's back with another half-braided style, only this time, she's given it a slight retro twist.

Tyla shared a carousel of Instagram photos on Nov. 13, where she's pictured wearing a hairstyle that features small cornrows all across the front of her head with straight hair extensions in the back. The braids are slightly undone so that they can blend into the extensions more seamlessly. The style in the photos looks a lot like the half-braided lob Tyla was pictured wearing last week, but the key difference is that this style is a bit shorter in length. Her extensions were also straight last week, though this week she added a bold flip to her ends.

Tyla is a frequent wearer of protective styles, but judging by a few of her most recent red carpet moments, she's also a big fan of the flipped bob. Given her clear loyalty to these two hairstyles, it's actually not a surprise that she's found a way to combine the two in a way that looks equal parts chic and edgy.

I’m convinced that Tyla has a hair wizard hidden somewhere in her house. On November 4, the singer was photographed attending the Glamour Women Of The Year Awards, this time in New York City. She wore a gorgeous seafoam green dress and matching platform heels. Her hairstyle was a variation of one she’s worn before, but shorter, more flirty, and a perfect way to showcase the versatility of protective styles once again.

Tyla’s hair combined cornrows with a sew-in, similar to the style she was seen in just last week. However, there are some key differences. The version from last week was long and tumbled down her back, while this week’s is noticeably shorter, a clear sign that the singer prefers a bob hairstyle. Additionally, the previous style featured only one side braided, but now almost the entire front of her head is covered in cornrows, with the ends of each braid blending seamlessly into her straight extensions. A slight curl and the ends of her hair add a touch of volume, and once again, the singer has elevated her protective style game.

Tyla is a perfect example of why braids are one of my all-time favorite protective styles. They are incredibly versatile on their own, but they can also be easily combined with other hairstyles like sew-ins, ponytails, and more—there’s practically no limit to the styles that braids can complement. Tyla herself has sported everything from lemonade braids to goddess braids, and other stars like Keke Palmer and Simone Biles have also been seen in some variation of this protective look. In short, all the it-girls are wearing braids again, and I love to see it.

Tyla's grand entrance at the 2025 Glamour Women of the Year Awards sent fashion girls everywhere sprinting for the archives.

Let's rewind to November 4, when the magazine hosted Demi Moore, Rachel Zegler, Olandria Carthen, and Ms. Rachel at New York's Plaza Hotel. Tyla—one of Glamour's guests of honor—began posing for photographers in a look that probably elicited a few gasps IRL. Stylist Ronnie Hart brought the moment to life by sourcing a vintage Dior by John Galliano gown, courtesy of New York City-based secondhand store, Vintage Heritage. The Spring/Summer 1998 "In a Boudoir Mood" dress looked good as new.

The floor-grazing, leafy-green silk gown was the epitome of '90s slip dresses. Its textile base was juxtaposed by metallic silver strands, which caught the light against Tyla's décolletage. A single spaghetti-strap, dangling atop her tricep, aligned with the slips of yesteryear. (See Kate Moss's naked dress circa-1993 for proof.) Hand-beaded fringe created a short cap-sleeve on Tyla's opposing shoulder.

Ever the collector of statement necklaces, Tyla upped the '90s nostalgia with numerous strings of pearls wrapped around her neck. Her tiered Pandora pearls created a strikingly makeshift choker—an elegant callout to her shoulder's details.

Tyla layered a longer pearl necklace, also from Pandora, with smaller gemstones underneath, which draped beyond her dress's neckline. Its yellow gold hardware complemented another necklace, featuring pearl-less chainlink.

On the red carpet, the Grammy winner's shoes remained unseen. The after-party, however, gave her D'accori Belle Sandals their flowers. She chose sky-high, 155mm platforms in a slightly more pigmented shade of green. Each hourglass-shaped heel was just as eye-catching as the pointy platform. In addition to Tyla's "Chameleon Green" colorway, the British brand offers the model in metallic silver, bronze, black, and more.

Tyla maximized Glamour's Women of the Year celebration by attending the U.K. edition last week. On Oct. 30, she made headlines in a skirt set from George Trochopoulos Fall 2025. Tyla took zero short cuts from the original runway look—she even styled the mussel-shell shawl without a shirt underneath. Her low-rise maxi skirt appeared semi-sheer (as demonstrated on the catwalk). The pop star's legs peeked through horizontal stripes, each varying in opacity.

Clearly, Glamour brings out the best in Tyla. This much was clear two weeks ago, when she pulled off fringed Stella McCartney on the issue's cover. Fans aren't ready to turn the page on this collaboration.

Tyla, a braided hairstyle aficionado, strikes again. On October 30, the singer was seen in London arriving at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Dressed in an oyster-shell jacket and a sheer skirt, the star looked stunning as she posed in front of the step-and-repeat. When I looked closer, her nail crowns caught my eye, but it was her intricate braided hairstyle that kept it.

At first glance, the singer’s hairstyle looked like traditional goddess braids, with roots braided and ends hidden by wavy or curly extensions. However, upon closer inspection, the look proved to be even more stunning than I had expected. The left side of Tyla’s hair was fully cornrowed before flowing into what appears to be a sew-in. The right side combined braids and traditional extensions, adding extra texture to the sleek style.

For her second appearance on the Met Gala red carpet, the "Water" singer may have one-upped her internet-breaking look in a custom off-the-shoulder pinstripe gown by Jacquemus complete with an oversized cape. Working with Law Roach, Tyla referenced the Met Gala's theme of "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" with a men's shirt-inspired cape and beaded pinstripe details. The star wore a glittering diamond choker and diamond stud earrings from Pandora to complete her look.

"This is just so special, but also bittersweet because I know there's a tendency to group all African artists under Afrobeats," Tyla continued. "It's a thing, and even though Afrobeats has run things and has opened so many doors for us, African music is so diverse. It's more than just Afrobeats."

The 22-year-old musician then spoke about how she specifically makes amapiano music, or a South African genre that fuses house, jazz, and the '90s-originated sound known as kwaito. "I come from South Africa. I represent amapiano, I represent my culture," she said, before going on to shout out some of her peers and others nominated in the Afrobeats category. "Africa to the world," she added.

Others in the Best Afrobeats category included Ayra Starr featuring Giveon for "Last Heartbreak Song," Burna Boy for "City Boys," Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay for "Sensational," Tems for "Love Me JeJe," and Usher for "Pheelz."

Tyla was among this year's first-time nominees. Aside from Best Afrobeats, she's also up for the coveted Best New Artist award, as well as Best R&B for "Water."

It’s quite literally my job to stay on top of new beauty launches. Yet, Pat McGrath somehow managed to secretly debut her latest lip launch weeks ago without causing a stir. As Tyla's TikTok prescence increased to a cool 7.2 million followers last year, "comfortable" meant macramé tube tops and itty-bitty mini skirts for performing self-choreographed dance routines to her music. Weeks ago, "comfortable" signified a seafoam green Versace gown with glittery fishnet overlays—a costume for a modern Venus—worn to clinch the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance for "Water," which now sits at the top of the Billboard R&B chart. Today, "comfortable" is a linen set to dance in Gap's Spring 2024 campaign—Tyla's first for a global fashion brand.

The video follows Tyla and a group of dancers through Shay Latukolan's joyous choreography to “Back On 74,” a genre-bending bop from the U.K. group Jungle, that has been viewed more than one billion times on TikTok. Each dancer is dressed in free-flowing linen pieces from Gap's spring collection. Tyla's look consists of a linen crop-top and low-slung cargo pants, with a chain-link belt swaying around her hips. The breathable materials are obviously comfortable enough to move in—but in this case, comfort conveys confidence and a little sexiness, too.

The star can't think of a better first entry into fashion than through a partnership where she can show off her dancing skills (and in pieces from a heritage American brand that still reflecting her sultry, undone style). "I can see the influence of music and dance in the Gap campaigns," she says. "I just feel like it's a nice way to marry the two fashion and music." (The brand landed on her own radar with LL Cool J's 1999 ad spot.)

It's almost a requirement for Grammy-winning artists to adopt a dedicated aesthetic reflecting the tone and themes of their music. Beyoncé has gone yeehaw-glam in glittery bolero jackets and cowboy hats to match Renaissance: Act II's country sound. Taylor Swift, teasing moody alt-pop for The Tortured Poets Department, has near-exclusively dressed in dark academia-coded pleated minis and neutral-toned tops this year. Tyla, weeks away from the release of her first full-length Afrobeats album (another milestone!), says she's in an era of "effortless, island-y, hot, sweaty, ripped" fashion. Tops are shredded and cropped to near-oblivion; pants and skirts are low-rise for optimal swaying.

"I love marrying my music and the way I look, I feel like it goes hand in hand," Tyla explains. "I see that also sonically with my album that's coming out, and with the Gap campaign."

She didn't have to stray far from her artistic vision to fit the Gap mold. With easy, earth-tone spring linens as a canvas, Tyla could still imbue her campaign looks with slinky silhouettes and a pop star's flair for statement accessories. "I love that I was able to add some personal touches, like a waist belt and a scarf," she says.

As Tyla prepares to go on her first major tour—sensing a pattern here?—the artist is bringing even more of her self to her on-stage style. She's a vocal champion of South African designers like LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize winner Thebe Magugu, and incorporates her heritage into her fashion whenever she can. "I love just empowering other African creatives back home by wearing them wherever I go," she says. "It's basically in my swag in general, like the way I walk, the small little touches—like, this is a South African team and the small details matter to me."

"When on stage, when doing things like this, I love playing around, playing dress up, and just trying new things," the singer says. The "Tyla vibe," as she calls it, is recognizable but never formulaic.

When the lights go down on-set and the work is over, the artist still thinks about ease more than anything else. Even with a historic first Grammy under her belt, she still gravitates toward fashion's great common denominator. "When I am alone, I'm very comfortable, in sweats and maybe a scarf," she admits. "So it's still the vibe but in a more realistic way, you know?"
