The January 20 Louis Vuitton's Fall 2026 Menswear show didn't just present designer Pharrell Williams's 80-look line. Vans artistic director SZA used her front-row seat to spotlight custom, gemstone-coated sneakers.

Marking her first fashion show since 2022, SZA arrived at Paris Men's Fashion Week wearing almost head-to-toe Louis Vuitton (minus her bespoke Vans). First, stylist Briana Andalore dressed her in an oversize white button-down, layered beneath a brown leather coat. Utilizing the French tuck technique (how fitting), the Grammy winner paired the top with gray pinstripe trousers. Its vertical stripes complemented her Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag, which debuted in Williams's Spring 2026 Men's show. SZA carried it by the two top handles, while the crossbody strap grazed her legs.

It's a SZA staple to cover her footwear with extra-oversize pants. But this time, LaPilusa tailored them just enough to spotlight her Vans sneakers. Using the Authentic 44 model as her foundation, New York-based jeweler Rachel Goatley personalized a 1-of-1 pair with botanical gemstones.

Flower, ladybug, and leaf charms made of sapphires, topaz, opal, citrine, malachite, and diamonds earned the Vans their "Ladybug Garden" name. According to Vans, Goatley decorated four additional pairs for SZA to wear throughout Paris Men's Fashion Week. On Jan. 21, SZA returned to the front row for Dior, but Goatley's Vans were noticeably absent. They traded places with Jonathan Anderson's Mary Jane hybrid—the same shoes worn by brand ambassador Jennifer Lawrence at the womenswear Spring 2026 show last September.

SZA's front-row sneakers needed barely any time to catch insiders' eyes. Perth-based fashion content creator and stylist Kim Russell called SZA's Vans "very chef's kiss" on Instagram, especially "at one of the biggest male-centered shows in Paris." What's more, "working with Rachel diversifies the creative opportunities in shoe making, because of her jewelry background," she wrote. "There's a gap in fashion to show how it can be tastefully done without going full GAUD."

Having previously leaned into the slim sneaker trend on an outing with partner Robert Pattinson, Waterhouse's Vans are yet another celeb-beloved, and extremely affordable, sneaker option.

Out now, the Super Lowpro pulls inspiration from Vans Serio—and the original Vans Serio Competition Shoe Style 84—an '80s-era range that marked the label’s first foray into footwear beyond its skatepark-ready best-sellers. While the slim silhouette has found new popularity over the last year, it marked a stark change to Vans's offerings at the time, cementing its boundary-pushing ethos in the process.

The Super Lowpro isn’t suck in the past, though. In fact, it comes equipped with details that longtime fans will recognize from the original. Those include: the zig-zagged lace design, the T-Toe shape, and the heritage Serio logo on its tongue. Vans's instantly recognizable sidestripe detail has also been modernized for an incoming era with a two-tone look.

Despite all the tweaks and changes, the Super Lowpro’s ultra-low design still incorporates an EVA foam footbed, providing the flexibility and comfort that loyal fans expect.

The new release taps into the slender sneaker trend while infusing it with Vans's cool-kid energy. Given the brand's prominence in modern sneaker culture, it’s hard to imagine that this new release will not become an instant fan-favorite. After all, other Vans styles have become go-tos amongst a legion of modern It-girls, including Olivia Rodrigo, Gigi Hadid, and Jennifer Lawrence.

The Super Lowpro is available on Vans’s site now in four colors, each retailing for $85: a vibrant cherry red, a creamy white, a deep green, and a classic black iteration. Plus, a pale pink hue–my personal favorite—will be dropping in April. With all that variety, there's little doubt the Super Lowpro will soon prove to be Vans's most versatile silhouette yet.

If fashion is about looking forward, Vans stays true to its roots by looking to the past for inspiration. Case in point: The trendy sneaker brand just debuted the Premium Old Skool Music Collection, which offers a fresh take on one of its oldest and most iconic silhouettes.

The new collection celebrates the history of the iconic Old Skool silhouette, initially released in 1977 and the first to include the brand’s iconic side-stripe design. It includes three capsule collections influenced by key music eras that have defined the brand over the decades. The first, available to shop now, consists of a bold leopard pattern inspired by the punk and hardcore scenes of the ‘70s and ‘80s.

The second two capsules, dropping in early March and April, will look familiar if you grew up on the early internet. The Warped Tour was the motivating force behind two instantly recognizable pairs from the second drop: a checker-boarded option and another iteration emblazoned with a flame print. The vibrant world of underground hip-hop lends itself to an equally bright selection of Old Skools in a third and final capsule composed of shades like creamsicle-orange, magenta, and an icy blue, all with the brand’s classic brown gum sole.

But the sneakers aren’t all old-school. The new kicks have been upgraded with enhanced cushioning, a more seamless fit, and ADC insoles made from 30 percent biobased Sola Foam. Glossy sidewalls, retro branding, and higher foxing tape set the stage for a new era.

To find the perfect design for each decade, Diandre Fuentes, the head of design for Vans lifestyle footwear, dug through old catalogs, archival images, and tears from the internet. “I drew inspiration from what the artists and fans were wearing at the time and created a color or print story that romanticizes and captures the essence of that period,” she tells Marie Claire. Her personal favorite? Looking through old snaps of past Warped Tours. "Some of those looks were wild.”

Adapting them to modern-day sentiments wasn't hard, considering how prevalent Vans has become amongst a new generation of It-girls, with fans like Olivia Rodrigo, Jennifer Lawrence, and Gigi Hadid incorporating the brand into their off-duty ensembles. This newly minted marriage of skate culture and fashion did surprise Fuentes. “Trends are not linear. Folks are comfortable creating their own style playbooks unbound from past restrictions,” she says. “The Old Skool is adaptable enough that you can really make it your own, but it’s loaded with so much cultural richness that’s linked to skate culture, and you can lean into that and wield it if you want to."

I got to see some of those unearthed references for myself at Van's star-studded two-day summit held in Los Angeles ahead of the official launch, where the perfectly faded photos were on display right alongside Vans’s high-voltage new campaign that featured new icons like The Paranoyds, Little Simz, HiTech, and Voice of Baceprot. The event also included insights from Vans's in-house archivist and punk legends like Travis Barker, Black Flag’s Henry Rollins, and Bela Salazar of all-female punk group The Linda Lindas—all in line with the brand's boundary-pushing and nonconformist forward-thinking attitude.

The clash of old and new perfectly summarized what has given Vans such staying power: a blend of sticking to its roots and an eagerness to tap into the moment. “The Old Skool is an icon. I appreciate the beauty in preserving the heritage of this iconic silhouette, particularly as the footwear and fashion industry becomes more saturated with various looks and aesthetics,” notes Fuentes.

One aesthetic that will never go extinct? Being one of the Vans-approved cool kids.

Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge have kept their yearlong romance so low-profile that I sometimes forget they're even dating. One can certainly imagine why after the Joshua Bassett of it all. Obviously, she got a TikTok-viral pop banger out of the fiasco. But who can really blame her for wanting to protect the love she's quietly nurturing with the English actor? Or perhaps she's wisely saving all the tea for her next album.

Either way, I was simply elated to see the pair tooling around New York City on Jan. 15 wearing his-and-hers It sneakers. He opted for a green and white-striped pair of Adidas Sambas. She, on the other hand, went for a classic white set of Vans. But the similarity of their choices still felt pointed, much like the matching graphic tees and dark wash jeans Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal were captured wearing in the Big Apple last fall. For today's celebrities, the Instagram hard launch is so passé. Now, the best way to publicly declare your love is with coordinating couple outfits.

The two also bundled up in cozy winter coats. Lancôme ambassador Rodrigo wrapped herself in a gray wool car coat by Dôen paired with a green crewneck sweater and black trousers. Meanwhile the Enola Holmes actor got cozy in a beige puffer jacket and distressed jeans. Both stars also made sure to throw on a knit beanie before leaving their hotel. These New York winters, as I can personally attest, are no laughing matter.

With the 2025 Grammys fast-approaching in February, I have a feeling they're going to reward our patience with some sort of joint slay à la Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet cosplaying as Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant at the Golden Globes last month. Plus, Rodrigo's stylists Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo never miss an opportunity to outfit her in a drool-worthy '90s vintage designer ensemble. Remember the 1995 champagne Versace slip dress she wore to the 2024 Grammys? Right, yes. Of course you do.

The celebrity endorsements have been slowly trickling in over the last few months. Lawrence, a longtime mesh flats devotee, was an early adopter of the brand, swapping one flat shoe for the other in April when she was spotted wearing a butter-yellow pair of Vans. In the weeks since, she has also worn a black pair from the line on her casual strolls around downtown New York City.

By late July, the Vans sneaker trend had made its way to Hadid and Ratajkowski. She dresses in a reliable stable of quiet luxury brands like The Row, Alaïa, and even more of The Row; gray and camel coats, white maxi skirts, and slouchy navy sweaters are some of her repeat favorites.
