Despite growing up as a member of the nobility, Princess Diana wasn't totally prepared for life within the Royal Family. In fact, mere months before her royal wedding to King Charles, Diana reportedly got cold feet while attending Prince Andrew's 21st birthday party at Windsor Castle.

Elton John famously performed at the glitzy event on February 19, 1981, and later recalled his memories of the evening. But according to one royal author, Princess Diana didn't have an entirely positive experience at the party.

"Charles was behaving as if he was on duty and insisted, to the despair of his fiancée, on working the room and making sure he spoke with as many people as possible," royal expert Ingrid Seward shared in her book, My Mother and I.

Seward continued, "The younger crowd congregated in the disco, where the music was louder. Diana, nervous, upset and emotionally drained, danced frantically with first one man, then another, and eventually by herself."

Unfortunately, the experience allegedly had a fairly negative impact on the 19-year-old royal bride-to-be.

One member of staff, Mark Simpson, reportedly grew concerned about the princess's well-being at sunrise "when he glanced out of the window and saw Diana in the quadrangle, cutting a gaunt figure in the half-light, looking exhausted, lost in her thoughts, but still moving in a slow, rhythmic time to the music that was now playing in her head."

In the early hours of the morning, Diana reportedly drove to her family's home in Northamptonshire, Althorp. "At that moment, she was distraught, flustered, and had no intention of ever going back," Seward explained. And according to the royal expert, Diana came close to calling off her nuptials altogether.

"Her wedding to Charles was mere weeks away," the royal expert wrote. "As far as Diana was concerned that morning, it was canceled. In her anger and despair, she had decided she was not going through with it."

Diana's father, John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, "calmed her down and pointed out it would have been an act of gross discourtesy to break off the engagement to the future King so close to the wedding," Seward shared.

Had Diana's dad not convinced her to remain engaged to Charles, life would've turned out very differently for the young princess.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to move out of Royal Lodge in Windsor in 2026, with rumors suggesting he will be provided with a new home on The King's Sandringham estate. However, according to a royal expert, the fact that the former Prince Andrew's house hasn't been inspected by the Crown Estate for 22 years is pretty "extraordinary."

As reported by the Daily Mail, "Royal Lodge was not inspected once by Crown Estate officials in the 22 years Andrew lived there rent-free." According to the report, the lack on an official inspection has caused "controversy [to] grow over the dilapidated condition of his former home."

The outlet further reported, "When the lease for the 30-room Royal Lodge estate was signed in 2003, it included unique terms which included no rent but a costly upfront refurbishment and upkeep schedule." However, it appears as though the former Duke of York hasn't necessarily kept up with his required regular renovations—nor has he been checked on by royal officials.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams explained, "There is little doubt that the extraordinary absence of inspections of Royal Lodge, which under the terms of the lease could be periodically carried out, will be seen as yet another example of the sweetheart deal between the Crown Estate and Andrew."

Fitzwilliams continued, "This revelation is all the more surprising when you consider the fact that Andrew has been involved in so many high-profile disasters in recent years, and still no one thought to inspect the condition of the property until recently."

Per the outlet, when an inspection was finally carried out on Royal Lodge, officials "found it in a dilapidated state needing repairs." The scandal regarding Andrew's home "will undoubtedly lead to changes in the way leases involving members of the Royal Family are drawn up by the Crown Estate in the future," Fitzwilliams told the publication.

For now, at least, it appears as though Andrew won't receive any compensation for leaving Royal Lodge before the end of his lease, on account of the home's allegedly dreadful condition.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor—formerly known as Prince Andrew and the Duke of York—is set to move out of Royal Lodge in 2026. Rumors have suggested Andrew will move into a "shoebox-sized" property on the Sandringham estate, but some royal sources have expressed concerns about King Charles's eviction timeline.

The Daily Mail's royal editor, Rebecca English, suggested that King Charles has his work cut out for him in 2026, particularly with the fast-approaching "deadline to evict" the ex-Duke of York from Royal Lodge. "Stripping his brother of his birthright as well as his dukedom came as a huge surprise to some who doubted Charles had the stomach for it," English noted. However, Andrew's demotion seems to have been generally well-received by the general public, per English.

As for how King Charles will approach his brother's eviction, the outlet suggested that the move might be somewhat difficult. "I am told the plan is that Andrew will be 'out' of Royal Lodge by Easter, when the Royal Family traditionally gather on the Windsor estate, helpfully avoiding another potentially tricky encounter," English explained. "Whether he has a home to move into is another question."

The royal expert noted that Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate "was recently mooted" as a possible location for Andrew's new home. However, English shared, "[I]t is considered 'quite small' and needs a 'lot of work doing on it' to make it habitable and secure."

As Andrew's prospective home requires renovation, "this has raised questions over whether this work can be completed by the deadline," English wrote. As a result, this could lead to "the extraordinary prospect that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who remains eighth in line to the throne, could actually find himself homeless for a short period of time next spring."

English also alleged that Andrew "will not be going to live abroad," despite reports suggesting he's had offers to move to the Middle East.

The former Duke of York's residence seemingly isn't the only point of contention for the Royal Family, either. "There is also frustration that Andrew seems determined not to keep his head down despite his disgrace—choosing to start riding again where photographers are inevitably waiting and even going out in his car on Christmas Day," English explained.

As a source told the outlet, "It's difficult to know if he is being deliberately provocative, utterly pig-headed or just plain stupid...it could be any one of the three." The source continued, "But he seems unable to keep his head down. He really is a man with a habit of making terribly bad decisions."

The former Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has seemingly had a challenging year. In October, King Charles demoted his brother, forcing Andrew to relinquish all royal titles and agree to vacate Royal Lodge. Now, a former Royal Family staff member has reflected on what it was like to work for the ex-Duke of York—and his recollections appear to be far from pleasant.

Royal biographer Andrew Lownie spoke to one of the Queen Mother's former equerries, Colin Burgess, for new book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. "I remember...he came into Clarence House and wanted something wrapped," Burgess recalled (via the Express). "He looked at me and barked: 'You, wrap that!' and pointed to some object. I just thought, you rude, ignorant sod, and felt like [knocking] him [out]."

Lownie further explained in his book, "It was obvious to Burgess in the way the royals viewed the Queen Mother's staff. For [King] Charles, they were her companions, but to Andrew staff were just employees and were to be treated as such."

Burgess recalled, "I saw Andrew about once a month, when he came to visit Clarence House, and he would talk to the staff, including me, as an officer talks to his subordinates." The former equerry explained, "He would say things such as: 'I want this done and I want it done now,' or 'Have that done by such and such a time.' I remember him always saying 'Do it!' which was his catchphrase of sorts."

If Burgess's claims are true, it would appear as though the former Prince Andrew wasn't always liked by the Royal Family's employees.

The former Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has been served an eviction notice on Royal Lodge in Windsor by his brother King Charles. Now, a new report is alleging that The King could force the former Duke of York to move more quickly by "confiscating" a key asset.

A new report in the Express claimed, "King Charles has one option left to get Andrew out of Royal Lodge and it might make him cry." As for the alleged tactic The King could use to "coax" Andrew out of the property, the outlet suggested that removing one particular item from the home would upset the ex-Duke of York.

Noting that "Andrew is somewhat obsessed with teddy bears," the report suggested that King Charles could arrange for someone "to pack up" the stuffed toys. According to the outlet, this could work as some sort of threat, thereby forcing Andrew to "quit Royal Lodge by the start of January [2026]." The reporter even alleged that a stuffed toy hostage situation would "be a Christmas present to the nation."

While it seems unlikely that the monarch would attempt to take Andrew's toy collection away, Charles is apparently planning to remove some royal "treasures" from the property.

Royal author Robert Hardman previously told the Daily Mail's "Palace Confidential" show, "The Royal Collection, which owns quite a lot of the treasures inside there, may say, 'Well we can't be confident that this place is safe anymore,' and they'll start taking the paintings and the some of the furniture away."

Meanwhile, the Express said of Andrew's stuffed toy collection, "It's even been recently reported that he's currently so lonely he's taken to chatting to the plush toys as if they were close friends."

It's currently unclear when Andrew will leave Royal Lodge for good. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, is also set to move out of the property and into a separate home.

Princess Kate and Prince William recently moved their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—into a new property. Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park provides more space for the family, and will reportedly be Kate and William's "forever home." But some neighbors were apparently "in tears" over changes made in order to secure the area for the Royal Family.

Speaking to the Mirror, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said, "William and Catherine must be aware that there is some local disquiet about the diversion around their house. But it was only to be expected—and I'm sure people will soon get used to the longer route and understand the need for security."

The Prince and Princess of Wales likely realize that their new neighbors aren't necessarily pleased with the new "security" they've installed around the property. But according to Bond, Kate and William won't let any "fury over" their new home prevent them from celebrating the holiday season.

"This will be a special year for the family in their new home, Forest Lodge," Bond told the outlet. "Putting up Christmas decorations is always exciting, but decorating a new house is doubly so."

As for how Kate, William, and their children will be celebrating this holiday season, Bond explained, "I'm sure they'll also be putting up decorations at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, but I wonder whether they will spend a bit more time than usual in their Windsor home during the school holidays? It must still be fresh and new to them."

Bond also suggested, "I doubt whether William and Catherine will be able to resist the temptation to spoil [George, Charlotte, and Louis], just as all young parents enjoy spoiling their children—if they are fortunate enough to have the money."

Some local residents previously spoke to the Mirror about the changes being implemented around Forest Lodge prior to the Royal Family's arrival. After neighbors learned that some sections of Windsor Great Park would be permanently closed, there was allegedly a surge of emotion within the community.

"I ran into a woman there that I recognized, and she said to me that when she got the email, she cried," one neighbor told the outlet. "For people who have walked there for years, it's so sad." They also claimed, "Everyone I met was upset."

The former Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, is reportedly moving into a "temporary" property on the Royal Family's Sandringham estate. According to a new report, Andrew's new home is likely to be quite a downgrade from his current mansion.

Sources confirmed to the Mail on Sunday that Andrew "is set to swap his 30-room mansion for a 'shoebox-sized' holding property on a remote part of The King's private Norfolk estate."

Of course, it's still believed that the former Duke of York will eventually move into a more "substantial home," which is "currently under extensive renovation in preparation for his arrival." However, the outlet suggested that the Andrew's eventual home in Sandringham is "still much smaller than Royal Lodge."

The Mail on Sunday also cited alleged friends of Andrew who have claimed the former prince is likely to leave the U.K. in the near future. Sources close to Andrew told the outlet "he could relocate to the Middle East where he has long-established business contacts." The publication noted, "Many believe that Bahrain is the ultimate destination for Andrew in the long term."

The publication claimed that "royal aides have begun removing the contents of Royal Lodge under 'cover of darkness' in preparation for Andrew's departure next year."

According to the Mail on Sunday, Andrew has allegedly expressed a desire to move into his father Prince Philip's retirement property, Wood Farm. But the outlet noted, "[T]here had been some debate over whether that might mean he is 'too close' to the rest of the family."

For now, at least, it appears as though Andrew will be moving out of Royal Lodge and into a much tinier home than he is used to.

Princess Kate and Prince William have moved into their "forever home," Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, with their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. But according to a new report, not everyone is happy with the new royal residence and the changes that have been implemented as a result of the move.

According to the Mirror, local residents reportedly told the outlet that approximately "150 acres of previously publicly accessible land has been closed off to accommodate the couple and their three children, whose safety is of priority concern."

Elaborating on the situation, one local told the publication, "After it had been announced that William was moving there, I spoke to various people I bumped into and we speculated about the closure of the fields and footpaths and the general view was, 'I really hope not.'"

However, residents were informed that some areas of woodland would be permanently closed due to Kate and William's move within days of the announcement being made by the Crown Estate. One neighbor called the changes the "grim reality of Kate and William's new home," telling the outlet that a "ring of steel" had been installed around Forest Lodge.

"There were months of works around Forest Lodge [before the move], big trenches were dug so clearly a lot of infrastructure went in," a resident told the Mirror. "They planted a new hedge and installed a new fence behind the back garden of the house."

New fences were subsequently put up, and the property's drive was reportedly resurfaced, too. "Finally, the cameras appeared," the resident explained.

According to one local resident, a huge area of the forest in Windsor Great Park, which was accessible to the general public, has now been closed off. The changes, which have allegedly taken place due to Kate and William's new property, have "affected...thousands of people from miles around."

During one of their final walks in the forest prior to the closure, one resident discovered that "everyone [they] met was upset." As the individual told the Mirror, "I ran into a woman there that I recognized, and she said to me that when she got the email, she cried. For people who have walked there for years, it's so sad."

Of the closures, a spokesperson for The Crown Estate told the Mirror, "A security boundary has been introduced by the Home Office and Thames Valley Police in a small area of Windsor Great Park to support enhanced protective measures. This does not affect the vast majority of public access to the park and efforts have been made to reduce the impact on users of the park as far as possible."

The Royal Family has undergone some major changes in recent weeks, with King Charles executing his decision to strip his brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, of all official royal titles. The former Prince Andrew has also been evicted from Royal Lodge in Windsor, and according to a royal expert, he's slowly been learning that his life isn't going to be the same anymore.

The Daily Mail columnist Ephraim Hardcastle discussed the alterations that have already been made regarding Andrew, especially when he visits Windsor Castle. "It's all change at Windsor Castle," the columnist explained (via the Express). "On his first visit since his title defenestration, the former prince was not saluted by guards." And that's not all.

According to Hardcastle, the "customary bows" Andrew was once accustomed to—"and woe betide anyone who forgot"—are no longer necessary. In fact, the mark of respect reserved for royalty has "disappeared," the outlet noted. "Some even relished calling him Mr. Mountbatten Windsor, instead of Your Royal Highness," Hardcastle alleged.

Unfortunately for Andrew, another hardship was allegedly waiting for him at Windsor Castle, with Hardcastle writing, "[T]here was worse in store for the fallen HRH." The columnist explained, "His privilege of having meals sent over from the Castle, a Royal Deliveroo [an alternative to Uber Eats in some parts of the world], has been withdrawn."

In spite of his pretty drastic demotion, Andrew has reportedly been making a plethora of demands regarding his future. According to the Daily Mail, Andrew had taken to "insisting...on an appropriate home and a rota of staff fit for the son—however debased—of a queen and the father of two royal princesses."

Wherever he is sent to live after he leaves Royal Lodge, Andrew has reportedly demanded that he's served by a "cook, a housekeeper, and a secretary-cum-butler, plus gardeners" at the new property.

Following Queen Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, the former Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, were entrusted with the late monarch's corgis. Now that Andrew is being forced to move out of Royal Lodge, onlookers have been wondering whether he will retain custody of his late mother's dogs. The property also contains a multitude of "royal artifacts," but it's unlikely any of those will be moving to Andrew's new home.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth's beloved corgis, Sandy and Muick, "will remain with the family," via the Daily Mail. While Andrew and Sarah will no longer be able to use their former Duke and Duchess of York titles, they will apparently keep possession of the late Queen's corgis.

Of course, the palace "did not clarify if it would be Andrew, Sarah, or Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice who would" be looking after the corgis from now on, the Daily Mail reported. Andrew and Sarah will no longer be living together once they leave Royal Lodge, so it seems likely only one of them will retain custody of the dogs.

The former Prince Andrew will reportedly be losing more than just Royal Lodge when he leaves the property. According to GB News, "Royal artifacts that line the walls of Royal Lodge will be returned to King Charles...Following the removal of Andrew's royal titles, his 'objets d'art' are set to be returned to the Royal Collection Trust when he vacates his 30-room Grade II mansion."

The outlet further shared, "It is understood that a number of highly regarded pieces of the collection currently reside within Andrew's residence...One of the key pieces that is said to be in the mansion is a 19th century oil painting of Eugénie, Empress of the French and wife of Napoleon III, by Charles Édouard Boutibonne."

Referencing a report by The Times, Hello! magazine revealed an "ancient sword" with a celebrity connection was amongst the artifacts that would be returned to King Charles. "Back in 2016, it was reported that Princess Beatrice was behind a scar on British singer Ed Sheeran's face as she used the aforementioned sword to pretend to 'knight'" James Blunt, the outlet explained.

The publication continued, "The story goes that as she performed the action, Beatrice accidentally cut Ed Sheeran's face, who was standing behind his fellow singer." However, according to the publication, Blunt later said of the story, "Ed was drunk, messing around, and he cut himself."

While Andrew and Sarah will lose a plethora of royal art and objects, they will, at least, hold on to the corgis.

Prince Andrew recently announced his intention to relinquish all of his official royal titles, following new allegations regarding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Now, royal experts are suggesting that King Charles and the monarchy might be in peril if Andrew's saga continues any longer.

Amidst suggestions that Prince Andrew will be forced to move out of his home, Royal Lodge, a palace source told the Express, "Everyone just wants the matter to be resolved." They continued, "The longer this is drawn out, the worse it is for His Majesty."

As for whether or not Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will actually leave Royal Lodge remains to be seen. However, a source told the outlet, "He's gone. It's a matter of when, not if."

The Express further claimed that Prince Andrew would be against moving further afield, as he hopes to remain close to his daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. "He is keen to stay in Windsor so that he can continue to ride on the estate's grounds, but he may struggle to afford the rent of even the smaller properties, such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's former home, Frogmore Cottage," the publication explained.

According to The Sun, royal experts also suggested that "Andrew is a danger to Charles," and "will ruin The King's legacy." The outlet explained, "The King's visit to the Vatican was overshadowed by questions about Prince Andrew's living arrangements."

Speaking to the outlet, a royal source claimed that Prince Andrew was stealing attention away from King Charles and the important work the Royal Family is trying to do. However, whether or not Charles will completely cut ties with his brother is unclear.

Prince William recently appeared on Apple TV+'s The Reluctant Traveler, where he discussed everything from raising his children to the "formal" relationship he had with grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. The Prince of Wales also reflected on some of the funniest remarks tourists have made while visiting Windsor Castle.

Speaking to host Eugene Levy, Prince William dished (via the Express), "The tour guides get to hear some funny stories." He continued, "We heard back one time, that—I won't name the nationality of the tourist, but—they're looking around the castle going, 'Wow this place is incredible, but why did they have to build the castle so close to Heathrow Airport?'"

As construction started on Windsor Castle in 1070, it's safe to say the royal building existed eons before Heathrow Airport. Unsurprisingly, this particular comment has "gone down as the sort of number one quote of a tourist going around Windsor Castle," William explained.

During his appearance on the show, William also discussed Prince George's educational abilities. "George, my son, is way better in history than I am, and I have to check with him now on my dates," the Prince of Wales told Levy (via the Express).

As the future king, Prince George's historical education, particularly in how it relates to the Royal Family, will serve him well.

Prince William was also candid about the relationship he had with his late grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. "I think when we were younger it was harder to have that very close relationship, because it was quite formal," he told Levy. "But as they got older and I got older, it got warmer and warmer." The Prince of Wales noted that, as Elizabeth and Philip aged, "they sort of relaxed a little bit."

On Wednesday, September 17, Donald and Melania Trump arrived at Windsor Castle by helicopter, where they were greeted by Princess Kate, Prince William, King Charles, and Queen Camilla. Royal fans were quick to notice that neither Kate nor Melania curtsied to King Charles, with some commenters suggesting the pair had broken royal protocol in the process.

The Princess of Wales usually curtsies to King Charles, but her decision to be more informal during the arrival of their U.S. visitors apparently doesn't break official protocol. Melania's decision to forego the formality of curtsying also isn't in opposition to any specific guidance, either.

As noted by the Royal Family's official website, "There are no obligatory codes of behavior when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms."

The Royal Family's website also details the traditional customs often carried out by people meeting The King and Queen. "For men this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy," the guidelines noted. "Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way."

Along with curtsying, there are numerous ways visitors are expected to behave while addressing the royals. "On presentation to The Queen, the correct formal address is 'Your Majesty' and subsequently 'Ma'am,' pronounced with a short 'a,' as in 'jam,'" the Royal Family's site explained. "For male members of the Royal Family the same rules apply, with the title used in the first instance being 'Your Royal Highness' and subsequently 'Sir.'"

Meanwhile, People suggested that Princess Kate "likely didn't curtsy publicly because she had already greeted King Charles and Queen Camilla" prior to the arrival of the Trumps. Whether or not this was the case, it seems as though a certain degree of informality is in place for the U.S. state visit.

On Wednesday, September 17, Princess Kate and Prince William joined King Charles at Windsor Castle to welcome Donald and Melania Trump for the U.S. president's state visit. For the occasion, the Princess of Wales wore a wine-colored Emilia Wickstead coat dress, which she accessorized with some very "sentimental" jewelry choices, according to an expert.

The managing director of online jeweler 77 Diamonds, Tobias Kormind, analyzed the jewelry Kate Middleton wore to greet the Trumps. Speaking to Marie Claire, Kormind explains, "The Princess of Wales struck a powerful balance of sentiment and symbolism through her jewels."

Kormind continues, "Her diamond and emerald Prince of Wales feather brooch is steeped in history—a gift to Queen Alexandra in 1863 and later cherished by Princess Diana, who often reimagined it as a pendant."

The jewelry expert continues, "By wearing it today, Kate nodded to both her title and her late mother-in-law's enduring legacy. She paired the brooch with ruby and diamond drop earrings, previously seen at the 80th VE Day celebrations earlier this year, layering in another poignant reminder of remembrance and resilience."

Elaborating on Kate's jewelry choices for the U.S. state visit, Kormind says, "The effect was a dazzling tapestry of heritage and homage, standing in elegant contrast to the First Lady's diamond studs and statement hat."

The Princess of Wales's brooch was one of Princess Diana's favorite pieces, and is steeped in royal history. Known as the Queen Alexandra Three-Feather Brooch, the item was originally gifted to Princess Alexandra of Denmark when she married King Edward VII, then-the Prince of Wales, in 1863, The Royal Watcher shared. The brooch "is composed of an oval of 18 brilliant-cut diamonds accented with tiny emeralds, encircling the Prince of Wales ostrich feathers," the outlet explained.

Given to Alexandra by the "Ladies of North Wales," the brooch also contains the German inscription "Ich Dien," which is the Prince of Wales's motto and translates to "I Serve," per The Royal Watcher. It was recently revealed that Prince William and Princess Kate are leaving the "modest" Adelaide Cottage in favor of their "forever home," Forest Lodge in Windsor. Now, a royal expert has spoken about why the Prince of Wales is "breaking" multiple royal traditions in order to give his three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—a better life.

As reported by GB News, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond discussed the importance of Kate and William's move to Forest Lodge. "William is focused on creating a stable and private family life: the kind he never had when he was growing up," Bond explained. "And so he wants to keep his family firmly rooted."

Noting that William's latest move is in keeping with his approach to royal life, Bond told the outlet, "He's already defined the way he wants to do things: he calls it royalty with a small 'r.'" The royal expert continued, "I think a 'forever' home at Forest Lodge is in keeping with that philosophy."

The royal expert continued, "He doesn't want to live in a palace or a castle and he has made up his mind to do things differently."

As for why William's decision to avoid Buckingham Palace is so significant, Bond explained, "Living in a house—albeit a pretty big house as Forest Lodge is—will give his family a much more normal life, and that, I'm sure, is going to stand them in good stead."

It appears as though the Prince of Wales will always endeavor to put his family first, even when he's on the throne.

Princess Kate is set to move to Forest Lodge in Windsor with Prince William and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. As well as giving the family more space, the move will apparently bring Kate Middleton closer to a royal relative with whom she's exceptionally close.

Royal biographer Sean Smith spoke to GB News about the Princess of Wales's new home, and what it meant for her friendship with her "royal sister," Duchess Sophie. "They remain the best of friends," Smith explained. "They have always been two middle-class girls from the country battling their way through the etiquette and traditions of the Royal Family."

Smith continued, "They do not live in each other's pockets. Kate has three young children to occupy her attention, but [their] new home, Forest Lodge, is little more than a 10-minute drive from Bagshot Park, so Sophie is near to help and support when she can."

Elaborating on why Princess Kate and Duchess Sophie are so close, Smith told the outlet, "We first became properly aware of their friendship when they traveled together down the course at Royal Ascot in June 2017 in an open-topped carriage." He continued, "Sophie was attempting to change places when she fell on top of Kate, reducing both women to a shriek of giggles—it was a truly happy moment."

Smith continued, "She was there to support Kate on the balcony of the Foreign Office in Whitehall in November 2024, a couple of months after the princess announced she had finished chemotherapy treatment." According to Smith, "Sophie placed a comforting hand on [Kate's] back—it was a truly memorable moment."

Once Princess Kate has moved to Forest Lodge, her proximity to Duchess Sophie will likely be incredibly positive.

Speaking to GB News on behalf of Heart Bingo, former royal butler Grant Harrold explained, "The Royal Family are moving the 'hub' of monarchy to Windsor. That's my gut feeling." Harrold continued, "The King hasn't moved into Buckingham Palace, despite a lot of the work being completed."

Elaborating on Charles's decision to avoid Buckingham Palace, Harrold told the outlet, "He still lives at Clarence House and spends a lot of time at Highgrove and Windsor." He continued, "Windsor has become the essence of the monarchy, and it is the spiritual home. It's steeped in history for the Royal Family, so it does make sense to make it the base."

However, royal commentator Hugo Vickers seemingly disagrees with Grant Harrold's suggestion, telling Page Six, "[Kate and William] will have to have a London base." Vickers continued, "The King has to be somewhere convenient to the center of government. They can't expect ministers to come to Windsor. I am sure William and Catherine will have to use Buckingham Palace as their London base and also for ceremonial duties."

Royal biographer and expert Robert Lacey previously told The Telegraph of Buckingham Palace. "I don't think it was ever loved." He continued, "If you read what kings have said in their diaries, it was always seen as an office. I think, actually, as an office it has been very successful. As a ceremonial figurehead for the Royal Family, as the place that visitors identify with, it's been a great success."

Grant Harrold, who worked as the Royal Family's butler for seven years, opened up about Prince Philip's reaction following Harry and Meghan's wedding in an extract from his new book, The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service.

"Once all the formalities were over, we watched as the happy couple, and then the other members of the Royal Family, filed out of the chapel," Harrold wrote (via The Telegraph). "When Prince Philip came out he turned to The Queen and said, 'Thank fuck that's over.'"

While some royal fans might wonder why Prince Philip swore after his grandson's wedding, it seems likely that the late Queen's husband was simply tired after attending such a high-profile event. In an interview with Us Weekly, royal expert Ingrid Seward said of Prince Philip, "He was determined that he was going to go to the wedding because he literally just had a hip operation six weeks before, which is a really good example of him being absolutely determined that whatever happened he was gonna walk down that aisle at the wedding and take his seat."

Seward continued, "He was very welcoming to Meghan because of course, she was a newcomer...At the time of Meghan and Harry's romance, he wasn't around nearly as much because he'd retired. So he didn't see very much of Meghan at all. So he didn't really have a chance to form a relationship with her."

As the late Duke of Edinburgh was known for making inappropriate remarks during his life, Harrold's revelation doesn't feel totally out of character. Rather than being any sort of diss towards Meghan or Harry, Prince Philip's swear-filled comment appears to have been related to his health difficulties, which is understandable.

Summer 2025 has been pretty meaningful for Prince William and his family. For instance, the Royal Family announced that the Prince and Princess of Wales will be leaving the "modest" Adelaide Cottage in favor of mansion Forest Lodge. Royal experts have also mused about Prince William's future, and whether he might move into Buckingham Palace when he becomes king. Now, a seasoned royal biographer has called one of Prince William's choices "untenable."

Speaking to GB News, royal expert and biographer Robert Hardman discussed Prince William's alleged hope to remain in "forever home" Forest Lodge, rather than move into the Royal Family's iconic palace. "I don't think that's tenable," Hardman explained. "When the late Queen came to the throne in 1952, she and Prince Philip had just done up Clarence House as a sort of family home with their two young children. They loved it, and they didn't want to move. The Queen Mother, who was resident at Buckingham Palace, didn't want to move out."

Hardman continued, "[T]hey presented [their plans] to the prime minister, Winston Churchill, and it was Churchill who said, 'No, no, no, you've got to move in [to Buckingham Palace]. The monarch has to live [there].'"

As for whether or not William will be able to stay at his so-called "forever home" Forest Lodge, Hardman told the outlet, "That will be a difficult conversation for whichever prime minister it is...Of course, [Prince William] will be a harder nut to crack for a future [prime minister], but I think Buckingham Palace depends on having a visceral connection between the monarch and Royal HQ."

As it could be quite some time before Prince William becomes king, the Prince and Princess of Wales's future living situation remains unclear. However, William is likely to carve out his own path, which might include avoiding moving into Buckingham Palace.

King Charles is preparing to host Donald and Melania Trump when they embark on a state visit to the U.K. in September 2025. It's already been suggested that Princess Kate will be the "icing on the cake" of Donald's trip, but it's now been confirmed that two significant senior members of the Royal Family won't be available to host the American president.

Two Buckingham Palace press releases have revealed that Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie, will be out of the country when the Trumps arrive. Between September 14 and 17, the Duke of Edinburgh will travel to Papua New Guinea, where he will help to commemorate the country's 50th anniversary of independence from Australia. Prince Edward's excursion will include "a dawn flag-raising ceremony and a state dinner, to mark the occasion."

Between September 18 and 22, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie will visit Japan, per a press release. "In Osaka and Tokyo, the duke and duchess will undertake engagements on themes which resonate in both countries, including youth opportunity, sustainability and innovation, educating the next generation, and women in leadership," Buckingham Palace explained.

During the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh's trip, they will also attend "Japan's largest international event," which is "the U.K. and Japanese Pavilions at EXPO 2025, Osaka, Kansai." According to GB News, Edward and Sophie's absence during the state visit could be viewed as a "setback."

Donald and Melania Trump will visit the U.K. between September 17 and 19. "Catherine will be the icing on the cake for a man as vain as Donald Trump," former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond previously told the Mirror. "To be seen with her will be gold dust in his eyes."

As noted by the royal historian, Queen Elizabeth II changed how Buckingham Palace was viewed by the general public by giving visitors access to the royal collections. "It turns it from an impressive but perhaps empty facade into a meaningful exploration of the way in which constitutional monarchy works," Lacey explained.

The Telegraph also reported that, when Elizabeth II was young, her "governess described the experience of staying at Buckingham Palace as being 'like camping in a museum.'" It would seem as though Kate and William are focused on creating a warm and welcoming environment for their children and, as a result, are unlikely to move into Buckingham Palace in the future.

The Mail on Sunday has reported that, before Kate, William, and their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—move into the "300-year-old Forest Lodge," a number of neighbors will need to move. In fact, "two separate families who lived in cottages next to the country mansion were asked to vacate their properties," the outlet reported.

Tenants were reportedly "surprised" to learn they'd be forced to leave their cottages on the grounds of Forest Lodge, which had "been rented out by the Crown Estate." A source told the outlet, "They were told to move out. I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move."

The source continued, "They were not expecting it. Those houses are very close to the lodge, so they're not going to want any Tom, Dick, or Harry living in those houses if there are going to be royals there."

The outlet also suggested that Forest Lodge is a "considerable upgrade" from Adelaide Cottage. Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis's new home includes a "chandelier-lit ballroom, tennis court, Venetian windows, and extensive grounds," per the publication.

Meanwhile, a report in the Express suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales's "true colors" were on display in their decision to move to Forest Lodge. "In a move showing the couple's true colors, they are paying for the move to the new home themselves and rent at no extra cost to the taxpayer," the publication noted.

Speaking to the BBC, a royal source said, "Windsor has become their home. However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times." The source continued, "Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter...It's an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind."

According to the BBC, Kate and William "will not have any live-in staff as they focus on creating as private a family home as is possible." The publication also suggested that, when Prince William becomes king, the family will stay at Forest Lodge rather than moving to Buckingham Palace. Furthermore, Kate and William are reportedly "funding the move privately and they will pay market rent on the property," the BBC explained.

Before Kate and William move into Forest Lodge, a number of alterations are reportedly being made. "The works include replacing doors and windows, stripping out internal walls, renovating the ceilings, and replacing some floors," The Independent reported.

Since moving to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their family have faced a number of personal crises, including Kate's cancer diagnosis. The Princess of Wales has since completed chemotherapy treatment and has resumed her duties as a senior royal, making 2025 the ideal time to have a "fresh start" by moving into a new home.

Prince William and Princess Kate moved their family out of Kensington Palace in London and into Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022. Described as a "modest" building without live-in staff, the Prince and Princess of Wales have reportedly considered Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis's home to be a "peaceful refuge." However, a serious "alert" has now been issued, which affects the entire family living on the Windsor estate.

The U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office have both issued an "amber heat health alert," on account of unprecedented heat waves occurring across the country, the BBC reported. William and Kate's Windsor home could be particularly at risk, due to the cottage's location within the countryside, Hello! magazine reported.

"These fires are a stark reminder that the U.K. is not immune to the dangers of extreme heat," Steve Cole, director of policy at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), told the outlet. "With temperatures soaring and vegetation drying out, the risk of wildfires increases dramatically, even in urban and coastal areas."

Cole continued, "The fact is that many wildfires are preventable. Simple actions—like properly disposing of cigarettes, and avoiding open flames can make a huge difference." He elaborated, "Climate change is contributing to longer, hotter summers, and increasing the frequency of extreme weather events."

"William and Catherine have been so set on giving their children a more 'normal' upbringing than royal youngsters before them that it's hard to imagine them wanting to move to what is, in effect, a castle—albeit a relatively small one."

However, Bond also noted that it's entirely possible the Prince and Princess of Wales are "outgrowing Adelaide Cottage," which is fairly low on space for the family. With just 4 bedrooms, and no room for live-in staff members, it's undeniable that Kate and William might feel cramped inside the smaller house.

"Whatever they decide, William and Catherine will have their children's happiness at heart," Bond told the outlet. "For them, preserving a relaxed, cozy family life—as close to some sort of normality as possible given their status—is a top priority."

Bond also elaborated on Fort Belvedere, a property loved by King Edward VIII, which the royal correspondent called "a step up in terms of grandeur." "With up to 8 bedrooms, acres of garden, a lake, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a polo stud, its appeal is obvious," the former royal reporter told the outlet. "Charlotte and Catherine love playing tennis, and the whole family would enjoy the outdoor pool."

Despite the building being "pretty Gothic looking," Bond revealed that the property had been "elegantly renovated by its private tenants." Bond continued, "There are also about 3 cottages in the grounds, which could be useful for staff or protection officers."

As for the suggestion that Kate and William had wanted to move into Prince Andrew's current residence, Royal Lodge, Bond believes that option is not on the table. "That is already a cause of bad blood within the family as Prince Andrew refuses to budge," Bond claimed. "Fort Belvedere could be an inspired alternative which would be less provocative than taking over Andrew's home."

In recent years, Prince Andrew has reportedly been fighting to stay in his property, Royal Lodge in Windsor. The regal property—which reportedly costs millions to maintain annually—apparently led to a dispute between Andrew and his brother, King Charles. After supposedly finding the funds needed to remain in his home, instead of downsizing at his sibling's behest, the Duke of York is reportedly celebrating in 2025 "having won the Royal Lodge row," per the Express.

According to the outlet, "Prince Andrew is set to be all smiles" having "won the row with Charles," who "reportedly tried his best to get his non-working royal sibling to move to a smaller premises." Despite having his private security removed by Charles, Andrew seemingly refused to leave Royal Lodge, for which "he signed a 75-year lease" in 2003, which was "agreed by the Crown Estate."

As for how the Duke of York "won" after years of "disagreements," the outlet suggested that, per the Daily Mail, Prince Andrew provided "a lease document that states he is legally entitled to stay there." Of course, King Charles's attempt to make his brother downsize followed a very public scandal involving Prince Andrew's connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

It was previously suggested that Charles hoped Andrew would vacate Royal Lodge to allow Prince William and Princess Kate to move their family into the property. However, on July 27, the Mail on Sunday alleged that Kate and William might be trading their "modest" family home, Adelaide Cottage, for Fort Belvedere, "a magnificent gothic-revival mansion nestled in a hidden corner of Windsor Great Park."

A royal source told the Mail on Sunday, "They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial." The source continued, "This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis."

Without pressure to imminently leave Royal Lodge, and with an alleged lease document confirming his entitlement, Prince Andrew is reportedly happy to be staying in his home.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kate Middleton and Prince William moved into the "modest" Adelaide Cottage, a small home in Windsor. It was later reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales wanted to be closer to Queen Elizabeth II in her "final months," with suggestions they even planned to "renovate" the small property. Now, royal sources are claiming that Kate and William might move their family out of Adelaide Cottage, and into a gothic mansion in Windsor.

According to the Mail on Sunday, the Prince and Princess of Wales might leave their small family home, which has been a "peaceful refuge," for Fort Belvedere, "a magnificent gothic-revival mansion nestled in a hidden corner of Windsor Great Park."

The huge property sits on 59 acres of land, and apparently features somewhere between 30 and 40 rooms. Additional amenities include an outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court, the latter of which "is particularly appealing for Kate and Charlotte, both of whom are enthusiasts," the publication reported.

"A rose garden, walled garden, kitchen garden, large greenhouse, stables, two lakes, paddocks, and three cottages for staff" only make the property more attractive.

Fort Belvedere has reportedly had many different occupants since it was built in the 18th century. King Edward VIII famously lived in the property with wife Wallis Simpson, and even signed his abdication papers inside Fort Belvedere, per the Daily Mail.

As for why Kate and William might move their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—a royal source told the Mail on Sunday, "They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial."

The source continued, "This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis."

An "imminent" move is off the table, the outlet reported. However, it seems that Kate and William might be ready to make some changes to their living arrangements in the near future.

Kate Middleton and Prince William have a busy week ahead. On July 8, French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, will travel to Windsor for a State Visit. The Prince and Princess of Wales will be assisted by two unexpected senior members of the Royal Family, who have been given a more prominent role while hosting the French visitors.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester "will accompany the French couple to a Guildhall banquet hosted by the Lord Mayor and City of London Corporation on the evening of Wednesday, July 9," GB News reported. The Duke of Gloucester is Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, making him perfectly placed to carry out official engagements on behalf of the Royal Family.

According to the Royal Family's official website, "The Duchess of Gloucester is a full-time working member of the Royal Family" who "takes great pride in the work which she undertakes for her many charities and organizations." Her husband, the Duke of Gloucester, "attends national and international events in support of The King and his duties as Head of State, as well as undertaking extensive public duties and engagements."

Per a press release, the Macrons will stay at Windsor Castle during their State Visit. While the Gloucesters will handle certain duties on behalf of the Royal Family, Princess Kate and Prince William are also set to take on important roles for King Charles. In fact, Kate and William "are scheduled to take part in a carriage ride featuring Macron and his wife Brigitte through the streets of Windsor" on July 8, People reported. King Charles and Queen Camilla will lead the procession, with the Prince and Princess of Wales following behind with the Macrons.

It was an exceedingly busy weekend for Kate Middleton at Trooping the Colour, where she was given a "powerful" role and channeled Princess Diana in an aquamarine Catherine Walker coat dress. On Monday, June 16, Princess Kate stepped out in support of her husband, Prince William, at the Order of the Garter service at Windsor Castle. King Charles has had an extremely busy week. As well as attending Trooping the Colour alongside other senior members of the Royal Family, he also made time to attend a reception honoring the winners of The King's Award. It was there that The King shared his love of "block heels," much to the surprise of other attendees.

Lisa Kay, the founder of footwear company Sole Bliss, received The King's Award for Enterprise, on account of her services to women's fashion. As Queen Camilla is a known fan of Sole Bliss shoes, it's perhaps no surprise that King Charles knows his stilettos from his block heels.

While speaking to The King, Kay said, per a press release, "Her Royal Highness [Queen Camilla] has purchased our shoes, so hopefully she finds them comfortable." Charles gave some seriously detailed responses, proving he pays attention to his wife's likes and dislikes.

"She likes a heel that's not too narrow," the monarch replied. Kay confirmed that Queen Camilla's go-to shoe had a block heel, and The King responded, "Yes, a block heel!" He further explained, "It gets a bit harder to walk in heels as you get older," via the Daily Mail.

As well as getting The King and Queen's seal of approval, Dame Annabel Whitehead, a former lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II, told Kay, "We all love you here."

According to a press release, Queen Camilla has been wearing Sole Bliss shoes since June 2018, and her collection of the brand's footwear is worth more than $2,000.

Discussing her meeting with the monarch, Kay said in a press release, "Meeting King Charles at Windsor Castle was incredibly exciting! The whole experience was surreal!"

Prince William conducted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on June 11, where he handed out honors to a number of recipients. Bad Sisters actress Anne-Marie Duff was in attendance, and was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama. According to Duff, the Prince of Wales made a brilliant joke about a former monarch at the prestigious event.

Alongside her award-winning Bad Sisters role, Duff also portrayed Queen Elizabeth I in the TV series The Virgin Queen. Speaking to PA News (via The Independent), Duff revealed that Prince William told her, "This should all be old hat for you, or something," on account of her role playing Elizabeth I.

Describing her experience attending the regal event, Duff told the outlet, "[Windsor Castle] is like a treasure chest, isn't it? Because every piece of every room is swollen with history and art and value, so it's very specific."

The actress continued, "To be in this environment where people do live and do sit down and have their dinner and all of those things—you know, when you're on location, you don't really have that feeling of something like that, but this is someone's home, which is just extraordinary to me."

Duff also revealed that she discussed balancing work alongside parental responsibilities with the Prince of Wales. According to the actress, William shared "how we're all kind of the same" when it comes to juggling family with work. Duff, of course, shares one son, Brendan, with her ex-husband, James McAvoy.

While speaking with PA News, Duff also dished on her upcoming work projects, saying, "There's so much nonsense now, you can't even read scripts now without NDAs [non-disclosure agreements]."

She continued, "The streamers are like old Hollywood studios, it's like that, it's so bonkers, so you don't get to sort of enjoy the prelude to things with people—you can't say, oh my god, yeah, I'm going to be doing [this]. You have to keep everything on the down-low."

On Wednesday, June 11, Prince William conducted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, handing out honors to a plethora of recipients. The manager of Everton Football Club, David Moyes, was the recipient of an OBE, and met Prince William at the investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. "It was the first time I'd met Prince William and he congratulated me on how well we'd done at Everton," Moyes explained. "I also talked to him about Aston Villa and how well they have done over the last couple of years, and how much he is enjoying seeing his team doing well."

Elaborating on the meeting with Prince William, Moyes said, "He's certainly mad keen on his football and so is his son, so it made it extra special to receive the award from him."

Moyes also expanded on why receiving an OBE meant so much to him. "It was a great honor to be given an OBE today," the manager told Everton's official website. "It was a really special day for me and my family."

Explaining the significance of receiving the honor, Moyes said, "My dad was previously awarded an MBE, and now I've got an OBE too, so it's something we are all really proud of as a family."

He continued, "It was also incredibly humbling to see some of the other people getting awards for what they do in life—from charity work to doctors leading the fight against cancer, or folk tackling drug addiction. I felt really privileged to be alongside them to receive an award, too."

Speaking to the Daily Mail, lip reader Terry Ruane revealed that, while waiting for Duchess Meghan to arrive, Prince Harry turned to his brother Prince William and said, "Is Meghan here?" According to Ruane, Harry subsequently joked, "My hair is going to go gray."

Kate Middleton and Prince William moved to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022, which was a huge change for their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Despite having grown up in a literal palace, Prince William appears to have been quite content moving to a much smaller property with his family. Now, it's being reported that Kate and William have plans to "renovate" an "abandoned" part of their home.

Originally built in 1831, Adelaide Cottage has reportedly been renovated internally to make it perfect for the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. As reported by Hello! magazine, the property includes "a separate 'abandoned' [building], which was previously 'inhabitable.'" Kate and William allegedly have "their hearts set on renovating the building to create an annexe-style property for extra space, though the specifics behind the project are not known."

In 2023, Page Six reported that, according to a source, Princess Kate and Prince William were "extremely happy" living in Adelaide Cottage. The home, which is seriously "modest" and perhaps "too small" by Royal Family standards, has only four bedrooms, and no live-in staff.

It was previously reported that Kate and William moved their family to Windsor so as to be closer to Queen Elizabeth II in her "final months." In Nov. 2024, royal expert Duncan Larcombe told OK! magazine, "I think they surprised a lot of people when they moved there." He continued, "There are plenty of other places they could have moved to, but Adelaide Cottage fits with their desire as parents to be a normal family, where there aren't servants and they don't have 30 rooms."

Of Kate and William's alleged plans to renovate their home, a source previously told the Express, "Nobody knows that there is quite a spacious red-brick annexe building that's not being used next door to Adelaide Cottage." The source continued, "It's currently uninhabitable and needs extensive renovation works if it were to be used. Discussions have been ongoing for a while about using the property as part of the overall cottage grounds, but it's just about finding the right time to kick the project off."

2025 is already off to a brutal start for Prince Andrew, it would seem. According to a new report, the Duke of York wasn't invited to a special event hosted by his own sister, Princess Anne.

Just last week, Princess Anne reportedly hosted an exclusive dinner at Windsor Castle in honor of former students of Gordonstoun School. The Scottish educational institution has been a favorite of the Royal Family, with Prince Philip, King Charles, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward all attending the school.

As reported by the Express, Prince Andrew "is said to have been excluded from a Windsor Castle dinner honoring his former school—despite living just miles away on the royal estate." Meanwhile, the Daily Mail called Andrew's lack of invite a "snub." A "friend" of the Duke of York told the outlet, "I'm sure the duke would have loved to have attended the dinner if he had been invited."

A spokesperson for the school told the Express, "In her role as Warden for Gordonstoun, Her Royal Highness held an intimate evening dinner attended by a small number of guests."

2024 could be described as a difficult year for Prince Andrew. Friends of the Duke of York claimed that he was "sick and tired" of living in the U.K. following a number of public scandals. His alleged friendship with a supposed Chinese spy didn't help his image. Andrew withdrew from all of the Royal Family's Christmas celebrations, choosing instead to keep a low profile with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, over the holiday season. It was also reported that the duke had stopped walking the late Queen's corgis following public backlash.

Mere days into the new year, Prince Andrew was reported to London's Met Police regarding an alleged fake name he used on a business filing. Graham Smith, CEO of Republic, told The Telegraph that the royal had used the fake name "Andrew Inverness" on official business documents. "The royals appear to believe they can act with impunity, an impression given weight by the lack of police action on serious allegations of corruption and sexual offenses," Smith explained. "The apparent filing of false information with Companies House may seem trivial, but the U.K. faces serious issues of fraud committed in this way."

Kate Middleton and Prince William used to live in a luxurious home at Kensington Palace, but according to one royal expert, the couple "surprised a lot of people" when they decided to pack up and move to Windsor in 2022. While it was largely reported that Kate and William wanted to be closer to Queen Elizabeth, who was living at Windsor Castle at the time, it turns out the move made sense for a number of other reasons.

The Prince and Princess of Wales now reside at Adelaide Cottage, a nearly 200-year-old property that was built as a summer retreat for Queen Adelaide in 1831, per Architectural Digest. With just four bedrooms and no staff accommodations, it's much smaller than their four-story KP residence, which includes a massive 20 rooms.

Along with the benefit of being close to Windsor Castle and William's grandmother—who died just months after their move—several royal experts pointed out that the more "modest" home allows the family to have a taste of normalcy.

"I think they surprised a lot of people when they moved there," royal expert Duncan Larcombe told OK magazine (via Hello!). “There are plenty of other places they could have moved to, but Adelaide Cottage fits with their desire as parents to be a normal family, where there aren’t servants and they don't have 30 rooms."

Since they don't have room for live-in staff, the prince and princess can enjoy a more private life. "William would much rather have his kids around him, in the rooms next door to where he’s sleeping," Larcombe continued.

If you've ever been to Kensington Palace as a tourist, you know that privacy isn't exactly a selling point of the property. When the Wales family travels by helicopter it lands quite literally in their backyard along a fenced area that's accessible to the public—a scene I've witnessed on several occasions. Moving to the private Windsor estate means none of that scrutiny from people strolling through the park.

Author Katie Nicholl told OK that the family is "very, very happy" at Adelaide Cottage. "Being able to live in the middle of Windsor Home Park, where they're not overlooked and can come and go in complete privacy, makes the downsize from Kensington Palace worth it on every level."

Unfortunately, their quiet existence experienced a bit of a shake-up recently when masked burglars broke into a farm on the Windsor Castle estate. After stealing two vehicles, the burglars crashed through a gate that the Wales family uses to access their home.

Security scares aside, the family seems to be thriving in Windsor. "There's not a huge amount of space, but Adelaide Cottage ticks all the right boxes," Nicholl added.

A Windsor Castle property has been the target of a recent burglary—and the incident happened just minutes from where Prince William, Princess Kate and their children slept at their Windsor home.

According to the Thames Valley Police, via the BBC, the crime took place on Oct. 13 but was just reported on Sunday, Nov. 13. "Offenders entered a farm building and made off with a black Isuzu pick-up and a red quad bike. They then made off towards the Old Windsor/Datchet area," a police statement read.

The masked burglars climbed a six-foot-tall fence at Shaw Farm, which is on the Windsor Castle estate, and got away "by breaking through a gate with a stolen vehicle," per the BBC.

Alarmingly, the incident happened just five minutes away from Adelaide Cottage, where Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were asleep with their parents. According to the Sun, "the family are regularly seen using the wrecked gate — the nearest exit to their home."

A source told the outlet that the robbers "would have to have known the vehicles were stored there before they broke in and known when was the best time to get and escape without being caught," adding, "they must have been watching Windsor Castle for a while."

The King and Queen were not in residence at the castle when the incident took place.

The Sun's source continued, “There are alarms at Windsor Castle but the first time anyone knew there was a break-in was when they crashed through the security barrier at Shaw Farm Gate exit."

According to police, no arrests have been made in conjunction with the burglary just yet.

This is the second time this year there's been a security breach on Windsor Castle property. In February, an unarmed man was found in the gardens outside the King’s Windsor Castle apartments.

And in 2022, a man dressed as a priest spent the night on castle property while on Christmas Day 2021, a crossbow-wielding intruder climbed a fence while threatening to kill Queen Elizabeth.

Halloween is here, and when it comes to the Royal Family, there are plenty of ghost stories. With palaces and castles dating back hundreds of years, it's no surprise that there have been some spooky encounters in their historic halls. Windsor Castle, as it turns out, is haunted by the ghost of Queen Elizabeth I.

In fact, King Charles has allegedly seen the Tudor-era monarch wandering through the castle, which dates back to the middle ages.

“The late Queen saw her namesake Queen Elizabeth [I] in the library at Windsor Castle. The King has seen the same ghost, and his grandfather George VI saw Queen Elizabeth eight times in the library before the start of the Second World War," paranormal historian Richard Felix claimed in the Amazon Prime documentary The King of UFOs.

According to the book Haunted Castles of Britain and Ireland, Elizabeth I—who died in 1603—is a frequent visitor to Windsor's library. Sightings of her ghost date back as early as the 19th century, with author Richard Jones writing that in 1897, Lieutenant Carr Glynn, a member of the Grenadier Guards "was sitting in the outer room of the Queen's library when a lady dressed in black walked past him and turned a corner."

Glynn was apparently "intrigued by the woman's resemblance to the portraits he had seen of Elizabeth I" and went searching for the woman. However, he "could find no trace of her," Jones wrote, adding "furthermore, there was no doorway through which she could have left the library."

When Glynn brought up the incident to an attendant in the castle, the staff member replied that the lieutenant "was the only person who had entered the library that afternoon." It seems that such occurrences weren't that odd, because instead of being shocked, the attendant suggested that Glynn "had been honored with a special sighting of Queen Elizabeth I."

The story definitely seems in line with what I've heard from a friend who once worked at Kensington Palace; she recalled a fellow staff member seeing the figure of a woman dressed in period clothes and crying after the palace had closed for the day. When he turned around, the lady had disappeared.

Felix said that the Royal Family is well aware of these ghostly inhabitants. “All of their properties have ghosts in them, and they know it and have witnessed it,” he said in The King of UFOs.

Prince William and Princess Kate even have their own resident specter at their country house, Anmer Hall. Speaking on Hello! magazine's A Right Royal Podcast, Felix said there's "a ghost there of a Catholic priest that lived there and was hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason."

Apparently, it didn't bother the couple too much, because, according to Felix, “Before the Waleses moved in, they were warned about the ghost, and the comment was—I presume it was from Prince William—he said, ‘No old hall would be complete without a ghost, would it?’"

Waight Keller left the fashion house in 2020, but her relationship with the Duchess of Sussex has remained strong in the intervening years. In a new profile of the designer in The New York Times, Duchess Meghan shared personal insight into their connection, and her ongoing love of Waight Keller's clothing.

In an email to the publication, Meghan said she had "a beautiful friendship" with Waight Keller. Discussing the discussing collaborations with Uniqlo, Meghan wrote, "Her pieces for the brand have movement and modern grace." The Duchess also revealed that she owns several of Waight Keller's Uniqlo designs, including a number of dresses and a trench coat.

Speaking to The New York Times, Waight Keller discussed the public reaction to her decision to work with Uniqlo, saying, "Every time I make a career move, I feel my choices take people by surprise."

Earlier this year, Waight Keller spoke with Marie Claire via Zoom to discuss the launch of Uniqlo: C. "Change is part of my ethos and philosophy in work and life," she explained. "It pushes and challenges you, makes you evolve and learn."

While many were surprised by the designer's decision to leave Givenchy, it was an inevitable next step for Waight Keller. "People who stay in place end up being quite comfortable in a routine—but I don't want to ever be stuck doing one thing for a long time," she said. "I've stayed at some brands for two years, others for six or seven, but it's always been the right time to make the change."

As a designer, she was also excited to design clothing for a much broader audience. "When you work for luxury houses, you're talking to a much smaller audience," she explained. "I love that [Uniqlo] is so democratic: It's interesting to now reach people all over the globe from all different walks of life."

When one pictures tea time with the royals, visions of silver trays, crisp linen and delicate sandwiches come to mind. But for one man married into the Royal Family, the experience was quite different, as Princess Anne's son-in-law, Mike Tindall, and his podcast co-hosts revealed in their new book, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby — Unleashed.

The former England rugby star—who is married to Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter and Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Phillips—shared an unexpected glimpse into the humble side of royal life during a visit to Windsor Castle to record his popular podcast last year.

Tindall sat down with co-hosts Alex Payne and James Haskell from The Good, The Bad & The Rugby along with Princess Anne, Prince William and Kate Middleton for the taping—but Haskell in particular was shocked over the decidedly un-royal spread.

"I expected big trays loaded with scones and exotic fruit tarts," the former rugby player wrote in the book (via the Telegraph), adding, "Instead, I got a couple of broken rich teas and what appeared to be a half-eaten malted milk—a leftover from a box of Family Circle biscuits."

Fortunately, Tindall's pal came prepared, sharing, "Luckily, I’d brought along an M&S sandwich, but when I started eating it, someone appeared and shooed me into a corridor. They’d been on red alert since our MD spilt coffee on what was probably a priceless Chippendale cabinet."

Questionable tea service aside, Tindall said it wasn't as difficult as one might think to adjust into his wife's famous family. "Believe it or not, marrying into the Royal Family was pretty easy for me. They were always nice to me, and I was always nice to them. Simple really," he wrote in the book.

While Mike and his wife, Zara, aren't official working royals, former royal butler Paul Burrell tells Marie Claire that the low-key duo could be just like what the Royal Family needs to connect with the public.

Calling the podcaster "a no nonsense, common sense guy who speaks his mind," Burrell, who served Princess Diana for years as well as Queen Elizabeth, says the Tindalls are a particular favorite of The King.

"Even though he has appeared on television in his own right as a celebrity, I think he's been totally discreet," Burrell adds of Mike, who appeared on reality show I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here. "He's never let the family down." Unlike Windsor Castle's tea service, apparently.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. The monarch passed away at her Scottish residence of Balmoral Castle, but she spent many of her final years living at Windsor Castle surrounded by family. In fact, Prince William and Princess Kate decided to move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor to make sure they were closer to the Queen in her "final months," according to royal expert Robert Jobson.

In his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen, Jobson wrote (via the Daily Mail), "[Prince William] knew his time with his grandmother was precious and he is delighted they, as a couple, made that decision." He continued, "Catherine understood that for William, as a future king, it was important for him to be geographically closer to the late Queen in her final months, when he was required to support both her and his father."

The Prince and Princess of Wales' decision was reportedly well received by the Queen, and was a positive experience for the whole family. "It made a real difference," Jobson wrote. "They were in regular contact, seeing each other in person and speaking on the phone several times a week, bringing them even closer."

While Kate and William have several homes, Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Great Park is reportedly their favorite. The house placed them extremely close to Queen Elizabeth's Windsor Castle residence, meaning they were only a 10-minute drive away. The family home also meant the Wales family were close enough to the schools their three children attend.

It's also worth noting that Adelaide Cottage is a somewhat modest residence for a future King and Queen. With just four bedrooms, and no room for live-in staff members, Kate and William have chosen a pretty cozy residence to bring up their children.

However, all reports seem to suggest that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are extremely happy living in the Windsor home. While Charlotte allegedly rules the roost, Prince George was reportedly excited to move into the house on a more permanent basis.

Prince George is growing up so fast. The 11-year-old is currently second in the line of succession to the British throne. Once his father, Prince William, becomes King, George will be the heir apparent. As a result, his childhood is likely a little different from that of other kids.

A new report has suggested that Princess Kate is making sure her eldest son is ready for his future role. After all, learning that you'll one day become a monarch must be quite a lot to digest.

Speaking to The Sun's Fabulous magazine, royal expert Phil Dampier said, "Most of the time he is enjoying the life of someone from the upper middle classes, and spends a lot of time with Kate’s family, the Middletons." Dampier continued, "However he is growing up fast and William and Kate are slowly preparing him for his role."

According to the royal author, Prince George has been growing in confidence by attending huge Royal Family events. Body language expert Judi James also noted, "Thanks to William’s careful, hands-on induction of his eldest son, George has slowly evolved from a rather shy-looking small boy into a more confident, responsible and happily still joyful-looking eleven-year-old."

Prince George often dresses like Prince William already. George's decision to wear suits and copy his father's style is apparently entirely intentional. "He has sometimes looked a bit stiff and formal in a suit and tie," Dampier told the outlet. "But I thought in the recent photo to mark his 11th birthday he looked a lot more relaxed, a lot more comfortable and he’s clearly maturing rapidly."

According to Fabulous' report, if Prince George attends Eton, he'll be following in his father's footsteps in a crucial way. When William was at the prestigious school, he was able to visit Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, where the pair had tea together. "George will be able to see King Charles," Dampier explained, suggesting the little Prince will learn a lot from his grandad. "It’s very much going to be up to his parents and William and Kate will now be slowly upping the ante."

Prince George's father, William, will play a crucial role in preparing his son to one day be King, too. "William is of course the Prince of Wales, responsible for running the Duchy of Cornwall, and he will be showing George the ropes in terms of how that is run," Dampier told the outlet. "He will also privately be taught about the history of the royal family and its role in society."

However, Kate and William have also made sure that their children can enjoy their lives, without being fearful of the future. "They were adamant that they wanted him and Charlotte and Louis to have as normal an upbringing as possible and not to be burdened by his future destiny," Dampier explained.

While past Kings were forced to follow a rather rigid path to the throne, George will apparently be given more freedom and opportunities. "Their attitude is very much give him the tools to decide his own direction, not force him into things he doesn’t want to do so that he’s weighed down with responsibility," Dampier noted.

Although George's future as King is likely many decades away, it seems that his family is supporting him in the best way possible.

Queen Elizabeth was known for her lifelong love of corgis. Having raised corgis as a child, the Queen had a multitude of the adorable pups throughout her life. And when she died, Queen Elizabeth entrusted her son, Prince Andrew, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, with her beloved corgis. On International Dog Day, Sarah, the Duchess of York, shared a cute update regarding the Queen's corgis on Instagram.

Posting a photo of herself posing with two corgis, Ferguson wrote on the social media platform, "Wishing you and all your furry friends a Happy #InternationalDogDay." She continued, "For all the unconditional love, loyalty, and joy they bring into our lives, Sandy and Muick will be getting an extra treat on their special day!"

The two dogs looked extremely happy and healthy in the photograph, and Duchess Sarah could be seen gazing lovingly at them. It seems that Queen Elizabeth made the right choice in leaving her sweet dogs to Ferguson to look after.

Following the Queen's death in September 2022, it was reported that the monarch had chosen Ferguson and Prince Andrew to care for her corgis, The Guardian reported. According to the publication, Queen Elizabeth was especially close to Ferguson, who lives in Royal Lodge in Windsor, close to the monarch's Windsor Castle residence.

Speaking to the outlet, the source explained, "The Duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses and, even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty, by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting."

After learning that the Queen left her two pups to Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, not everyone was best pleased. Having faced sexual assault allegations and questions regarding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew withdrew from all official royal duties.

Speaking to The Guardian, royal expert Ingrid Seward joked, "It would seem most logical that the corgis go to Andrew... Let’s face it, he hasn’t got anything else to do." Meanwhile, author Sarah Penner wrote on X, "I hate that Prince Andrew gets the corgis."

In their first photo taken together publicly since Christmas Day, the Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted riding in a car together leaving Windsor Castle today, The Daily Mail reports. William was headed to the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey; Kate was reportedly headed to a private appointment.

While it isn’t known exactly where Kate is headed and what said “private appointment” entails, she “appears to be following a similar route into central London,” The Daily Express reports. “Princess Kate was pictured sitting in the backseat of the car and looking out of the window, whereas William was looking ahead.”

After their car ride together, William arrived at Westminster Abbey alongside Queen Camilla for the Commonwealth Day Service. Upon arrival, William was chatting with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sophie, and Princess Anne. Kate, as predicted, was not in attendance.

As Kate looked out the car window, “William appeared to read some notes on his phone as they were swept out of the grounds of Windsor Castle in a blue Range Rover that later dropped William at the Abbey without her,” The Daily Mail reports. (Sorry for those hoping for an unexpected Commonwealth Day Service appearance by Kate.) The outlet continued that “Her surprise appearance came as wild online conspiracy theories swirled around the princess and her health.”

This morning, Kate released an unprecedented statement via social media that read “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.” (Yesterday marked the U.K.’s Mother’s Day, whereas the U.S. celebrates in May.) We know the message is from Kate specifically, as it was signed with “C,” signifying that Catherine (the princess’ formal name) wrote it.

A source told People that Kate made what they called “minor adjustments” to the “amateur family photograph taken by the Prince of Wales.” William and Kate’s motivation, likely in the face of speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding Kate’s health, was “to offer an informal picture of the family together for Mother’s Day,” the source added.

It was later revealed that the photo was saved in Adobe Photoshop twice on an Apple Mac on Friday and Saturday. The photo was taken on a Canon 5D Mark IV, which retails for nearly £3,000; a Canon 50mm lens was used, priced at over £1,600. The first save was made at 9:54 p.m. Friday night, and the second was at 9:39 a.m. on Saturday morning. It’s not clear if both saves were on the same device, and the Palace has offered no further clarification on the matter, as it refuses to release the original, unedited photo of the foursome. AP confirmed as much in its kill notice to journalists, writing “At closer inspection it appears that the source [Kensington Palace] has manipulated the image,” it wrote. “No replacement photo will be sent.”

“It’s plausible she’s [Kate] at home playing with the computer and using an AI tool, but if they’re really going to regain any sort of trust, they should release the unedited photo,” public relations expert Mark Borkowski told The Daily Mail. “It can’t be that bad if they just made a few tweaks. I find they have risen to the challenge, provided the statement as an explanation—the question is, with all the conspiracy theories running around, is whether people believe it, and I’m not sure that they will.”

Borkowski said the Mother’s Day photo exposed a public relations problem within the monarchy as a whole: “That’s the issue,” he said. “There doesn’t seem to be that much joined up strategic thinking at the heart of the royal family at the moment, which leads to these problems where it’s a very difficult organization to manage in terms of PR.” He added “It’s a nightmare…They are under pressure, massively under pressure. This is a massive own goal.”

It is understood that William took the photo of his family last week at home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. Before the brouhaha, it was a good day, a source told People. “The family spent Mother’s Day together and had a wonderful day,” they said.

Is today a wonderful day? Perhaps less likely.

The Palace would not specify what part of the photo—which marked the first time Kate had been seen in any officially released capacity since Christmas Day—was altered. When AP issued what is called a “kill notification”—which alerted journalists that after “closer inspection is appears that the source has manipulated the image”—the lion’s share of attention focused on the left hand of Princess Charlotte. Others “highlighted inconsistencies in the alignment of the sweater pattern on Prince Louis’ shoulder, as well as a jagged white line in the background near his knee,” People reports. An AP spokesperson released a statement to The Telegraph that read “The photo shows an inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte’s left hand.”

Sky News said that, in an examination of the photo’s metadata, it revealed that the photo was saved in Adobe Photoshop twice on an Apple Mac on Friday and Saturday, and that the photo was taken on a Canon camera.

The photo was released to quell speculation and reassure the public about Kate’s ongoing recovery following her abdominal surgery in January, but instead it’s opened up a host of other concerns. Perhaps the newly heightened fervor over this most recent controversy could be squashed by Kensington Palace releasing the original, undoctored image, but the Palace is reportedly refusing to do so. Speaking to PA, Britain’s national news agency, the Palace confirmed it “would not be reissuing the original unedited photograph of Kate and her children.” PA withdrew the photo after it asked Kensington Palace for clarification but “in the absence of that clarification, we are killing the image from our picture service,” it said. 

After their car ride together, William arrived at Westminster Abbey alongside Queen Camilla for the Commonwealth Day Service. Upon arrival, William was chatting with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sophie, and Princess Anne. Kate, as predicted, was not in attendance.

Reports are emerging that, as they prepared to wed, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to live in Windsor Castle, but were turned down by Her late Majesty. She instead gave the newlyweds Frogmore Cottage (located on the Windsor estate) as a wedding present; Harry and Meghan kept Frogmore as their U.K. home base even after relocating to the U.S. in early 2020, until King Charles took the property back to the Crown over the summer.

Before they stepped back as working members of the royal family, Harry and Meghan extensively renovated and upgraded Frogmore, eventually moving in around April 2019, just weeks before their first child, Prince Archie, was born that May 6. After Harry and Meghan moved to Montecito, California, Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, moved into the home for a time; the Brooksbanks now split their time between Ivy Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace and Portugal, where they live part-time for Jack’s work.

The Times reports that Harry and Meghan asked, in regards to Windsor Castle, if “the living quarters could be made available after their marriage.” OK reports that Queen Elizabeth felt it would be “inappropriate” for the Sussexes to reside in Windsor Castle, and she “politely but firmly suggested” that they take over Frogmore instead. 

“The cottage was a big deal,” said Lady Elizabeth Anson, who royal expert Katie Nicholl spoke to for her book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown. (Lady Anson died in 2020.) “The Queen’s entrance into the gardens is right next to their cottage. It is essentially her backyard, her solitude, and her privacy. She was giving that up in gifting Harry and Meghan Frogmore Cottage. We all thought it was very big of her. She said, ‘I hope they’ll respect it.’”

The Prince and Princess of Wales now live on the Windsor estate themselves, relocating from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in early September 2022, shortly before the late Queen died on September 8. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, though divorced for 27 years, both live together in Royal Lodge, which is also on the Windsor estate.

Princess Diana also lived at Kensington Palace (often called “KP” for short) for most of her life post-marriage to the then Prince Charles, and Harry and Meghan lived in Nottingham Cottage on KP’s grounds before moving to Frogmore. “Kensington Palace sounds very regal, of course it does,” Meghan said in the couple’s six-part Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. “It says ‘palace’ in the name. But Nottingham Cottage was so small.” Harry agreed: “The whole thing is on a slight lean, [with] really low ceilings,” he said. “So, I don’t know who was there before, but they must have been very short.” 

Harry and Meghan moved into their current home, a $14.65 million estate in Montecito, in July 2020. The property, per Variety, sits on a private, gated street and is nestled on 7.4 acres. The home is about 100 miles away from Los Angeles, and, while the Sussexes could have asked Charles for financial help, Harry and Meghan were intent on purchasing their new home independently. “Harry could’ve asked Charles to contribute toward the cost of the house, but he chose not to,” Us Weekly reports. “Getting his dad financially involved would result in the royals having control over him. It would mean going backwards.”

Queen Elizabeth had seen a lot by 2003 but was apparently quite puzzled by a so-called “vodka luge”—an elephant-shaped ice sculpture—at grandson Prince William’s 21st birthday party, party planner Johnny Roxburgh recalled. (Some of us just had shots at our favorite college bar for our 21st; when you’re heir to the throne, apparently you get a vodka luge.)

William celebrated his milestone birthday at Windsor Castle with an “out of Africa”-themed bash 20 years ago, and, per The Daily Mail, Her late Majesty (who would have been 77 at the time) saw the luge as someone was pouring vodka into the elephant’s head, prompting her to ask what it was.

“I remember when it was William’s 21st, [it] was a jungle theme,” Roxburgh said on Channel 5’s The Royal Borough: Kensington and Chelsea. “And we have an enormous vodka luge, which was made in the shape of an elephant’s head. And she looked at me and said, ‘What is that?’”

And, in words that had to be surreal to say to the late Queen, Roxburgh replied “And I said, ‘Ma’am, it’s a vodka luge,’” he said. “I could have said it was a tin of Brasso, because she just looked at me confused and said, ‘Hmmm…’”

Roxburgh previously told Tatler that William was “wonderful to work with” and “charming beyond belief” as they planned the fancy dress-themed bash. “We created an African jungle at Windsor Castle with full-size elephants made from palm husk, table centers that would shame a Lion King headdress, a giant ice vodka luge in the shape of an elephant’s head,” he told Tatler in 2018. “I realized then that our future king is a very cool young man.”

For the party, the Shakarimba band from Botswana was flown in to provide entertainment for the 300 guests, which included the then Camilla Parker-Bowles (she would marry Prince Charles two years later, in 2005), actor Rowan Atkinson, and late socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson. In 2003, William was a student at the University of St. Andrews, where he met his future wife, Kate Middleton; it’s unclear if she was in attendance at the party, though the two would have reportedly been dating by that time.

One can imagine, by the way, there was not anything resembling a vodka luge at the then Princess Elizabeth’s own 21st birthday fete in 1947.

Another day, another bombshell book about the royals—and this one, Our King, written by veteran royal correspondent Robert Jobson, has some juice to it. If there is anyone who best represents the royal family’s standard “Never complain, never explain” mantra, it’s the Princess of Wales. But, according to Jobson’s book, Kate said of the Windsor Castle walkabout two days after Her late Majesty’s death—the unforgettable one where Kate and Prince William were joined, unexpectedly, by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—that it was “one of the hardest things she’d ever had to do” because of the “ill feeling” between the two couples.

Our King was serialized in The Daily Mail, where we learned that “Catherine later admitted to a senior royal that, such was the ill feeling between the two couples, the joint walkabout was one of the hardest things she’d ever had to do,” Jobson writes.

When it happened on Saturday, September 10, the two couples’ joint walkabout—which The Daily Mail reports is “said to have been William’s idea to put on a show of unity”—seemed like a potential reconciliation. But, say Jobson’s sources close to the royal family, that was an “illusion.” 

At least as of this writing, no reconciliation seems to be in the cards—after September 10 came, of course, Harry and Meghan’s eponymous Netflix docuseries in December and, perhaps more damaging, Harry’s memoir, Spare, in January. Though the RSVP deadline for King Charles’ Coronation was this past Monday, April 3, there is still no word from the Sussexes on whether they will attend the May 6 ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London.

Our King doesn’t stop there with the juicy revelations, by the way. As The Daily Mail delineates, the book also reveals that Charles was frustrated at Harry’s “bad manners” in 2016 for releasing a statement confirming his relationship with Meghan but demanding they be left alone—and overshadowing Charles’ Gulf tour in the process; that Her late Majesty was mystified by Harry and Meghan’s public criticisms of the monarchy and members of the royal family and described their behavior as “quite mad”; and that Charles and William mutually decided they couldn’t risk being alone with Harry again after Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 and would no longer treat him as a trusted member of the family.

Our King is out April 13. 

Long before King Charles took over as monarch, it was widely known that he was planning a "slimmed-down monarchy."

When he unexpectedly decided to evict Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, it was apparently the first of many planned moves towards that vision.

As it stands, many extended and non-working members of the family are currently living in apartments subsidized by the Royal Family, including apartments in Palaces, which some relatives' children use as "London pads."

"Over time, that is going to change," a source told the Evening Standard. "Properties will be let at commercial rates going forward and to people outside the family. Where it is in a palace environment they will of course be security vetted."

A senior royal source added, "A lot of practices that have evolved during the last reign will be changing. The King is not heartless or reckless, but if the family members are not part of the core family and not working for the crown, it is fair for them to house themselves and fund themselves."

Meanwhile, another source didn't mince their words: "The King is not some sort of housing association for distant relatives," they said. Fair, I guess?

Unfortunately, the King's plan also reportedly includes cutting the number of staff employed by royal houses, which could mean substantial job loss.

All of these moves are presumably designed to help the monarchy move firmly into the 21st century, and not cost as much for the taxpayer—which is one of the main complaints anti-monarchists have against the institution. Let's see how it all pans out.
