Donald Trump has made many disgusting comments about women. He said Megyn Kelly had "blood coming out of her whatever," called Rosie O'Donnell a "big, fat pig," said Carly Fiorina's face wasn't presidential, and that Hillary Clinton got "schlonged" by President Obama in the 2008 election. But his daughter Ivanka says that despite all that, the GOP frontrunner is actually an ally for women.
In the new issue of Town & Country, Ivanka talks about her own businesses and how she's reacting to her dad's campaign. Since her dad decided to focus on politics, the 34-year-old—who's executive vice president of development and acquisitions at the Trump Organization and runs her own jewelry and fashion companies—and her brothers Eric and Donald Jr. are more hands-on than ever in the family business. "It's amazing to see how his message has resonated and what he's been able to accomplish as a non-politician with a very strong point of view," she tells the magazine. Though she's not working on his campaign, "he's my father and I love him and I fully support him," she says. "I'm always there for him if it's helpful."
Meanwhile, she brushes off all the vile comments he's made about women over the course of his campaign, clarifying that he's actually an equal opportunity offender. "You could also list a few comments he's made about men that are unflattering. I think he's highly gender neutral," she says. She adds that she disagrees with him on certain things but it's not her place to challenge him politically.
Though Ivanka doesn't definitively say whether Donald is a feminist ("You'd have to ask him that"), she explains that his support of her is all the proof she needs that he's pro-women. "Well, clearly [he respects women]," she says. "Otherwise, I wouldn't be where I am. If he didn't feel that women were as competent as men, I would be relegated to some role subordinate to my brothers. He 100 percent believes in equality of gender, so, yes, absolutely—socially, politically, and economically, [he has] confidence in women to do any job that a man can do, and my whole life has been proof of that."
