The highlight, by far, of this week's Saturday Night Live was Melissa McCarthy's surprise appearance. She took the stage as White House press secretary Sean Spicer, and gave her performance a hostile energy that had the audience in stitches. And Spicer himself told Extra that he thought the performance was actually pretty funny.
He said he didn't even know about the sketch until he was leaving church on Sunday morning and saw tons of text messages on his phone—at first, he said, he thought there was a national emergency.
But surprisingly, given Spicer's hostile relationship with the media, the press secretary had a pretty chill reaction to McCarthy's impersonation. McCarthy "needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there," Spicer said. Overall, though, he said the portrayal was "funny" but over exaggerated, and McCarthy "could dial back" a little. But considering that McCarthy's manic freak outs and crazy gum chewing were the entire point of the sketch, let's hope she doesn't take his advice.
Spicer had harsh words for Alec Baldwin, however, who he claims has "crossed over to mean" with his Trump impression.
Watch her full sketch below. Here's hoping she comes back as Spicer immediately.
