Fashion people have a way of predicting the next big thing. So, when my international fashion friends introduced me to Songmont, a contemporary Chinese designer brand, I immediately fell in love.
Songmont's story began in 2013, when founder Fu Song set out to create an everyday work bag that seamlessly blended fashion and function. She created the design, and her mother helped her craft her first bag, which received enthusiastic praise. Her mother then gathered a team of skilled grannies in her hometown of Shanxi to produce the brand’s first batch of bags.
To design these intricate objets d'art, Fu Song draws from all facets of life, including people, nature, ancient traditions, and contemporary culture. Local artisans help realize her designs, and their creativity and craftsmanship culminated in Songmont's 2026 exhibition in Paris.
The event showcased the brand's six signature collections, which utilize a range of traditional materials and craft techniques, including Tibetan Pulu wool, intricate leather lattice weaving, and hand-pieced patchwork, alongside Tibetan tiger-tooth motifs.
