3 Cool-Girl Coat Trends Defining My Wardrobe Right Now
They're all I want to bundle up in.
Fringe! Funnel necks! Draping! Oh my!
It seems that as soon as the temperature dips, outerwear is the only type of clothing I'm concerned about. My favorite part about fall is that you can wear just about anything—sweats, even—and throwing a fabulous coat over the top makes you look the part. I'm all about minimal effort and maximum results.
This season, statement shapes, rich textures, and elevated details that turn my fall coats into the main event. From sculptural funnel necks to elegant matching scarves, these are the three key coat trends defining my wardrobe right now.
Fringe Benefits: The Fringe Coat Trend
Whether it's part of your style DNA or not, it seems as if every brand has their own rendition of the perfect coat with a touch of fringe this season. This coat trend brings the drama—not through bold color, but through the fluid, movement-friendly detail.
Last year, I invested in two of my favorite fringe outerwear pieces: one from the brand Bubish and another from Frame. In addition, I've also tracked down five more worthy fringe coats for my wish list (and yours).
High Neck, High Fashion: The Funnel Neck Trend
Funnel neck silhouettes have always been around, but they seem to be stealing the spotlight more than ever this season. When it comes to outerwear, the funnel-neck gives trenches or wool overcoats a modern spin. Maybe it’s the fact that we’re eliminating the need for a scarf? Or maybe we feel "high fashion" in a sculptural neckline? Either way, I don’t see us veering off from this trend any time soon.
My funnel neck trench quickly became my go-to piece after I purchased it last season. It's somehow still in stock, alongside five more of my favorites from Frankie Shop, Rue Sophie, and more.
Let It Drape: The Scarf Coat Trend
In 2022, I felt like it was my mission to get my hands on the Toteme Merino Wool Scarf coat. Now, so many brands are taking a page out of Toteme’s book and attaching scarves and other drape details to their overcoats.
Before I fully hopped on board and invested in this trend last season, I just DIY-ed it myself by shopping wool scarves to match my coats.
These days, we’re draping everything from cashmere to wool to trench coat material. The result? A look that feels both effortless and curated. Now I am fully bought in, here are my top five draped coats to shop ASAP.
