President Obama and his family will be moving out of the White House (opens in new tab) in a few short months, but you better believe they spent the past eight years making this temporary home their own. And exciting news: we're getting an official glimpse into their world.

The Obamas worked with interior designer Micheal Smith to decorate their private residence, which apparently boasts an "unprecedented array of 20th and 21st-century artworks."

"We selected artists and designers who would never have appeared in the White House before," Smith tells Architectural Digest (opens in new tab), adding, "This is their sanctuary—private, elegant, and calm. You really want to make sure that the President of the United States gets a good night's sleep."

The designer had less than two months to ready the family home, and Michelle's senior advisor says the "number one priority" was getting rooms set up for her children and mother: "The most important thing was ensuring the comfort and happiness of her family."
