Allow Me to Debunk “The One Perfect Pair of Jeans” Myth

Different days call for different denim. Here are my 13 favorite styles.

We’ve cultivated a near mythic obsession with finding “the one.” The one perfect haircut that will define us. The capsule wardrobe that ends all decision fatigue. The signature scent that feels so us. Identity solved—FINALLY. Check the box and lock it in.

But nowhere is this delusion stronger than with jeans. Each new image that comes across our screens makes us second-guess our latest denim purchase and has us rethinking whether we are that jean girl instead of the one from last month. We want our soulmate denim, and we think if we find her, we will have solved one of life’s great fashion quests.

I am here to tell you—and hopefully lower your shopping anxiety in the process—that there is no single perfect pair of jeans. Your pursuit of perfection (I have a Virgo daughter, so trust me when I say this) is pointless. Some days call for slouchy, loose denim that puddles around the ankles. Other days, or rather nights, crave slim fits and a dark wash. Bootcuts lately seem brilliant paired with heels and a going-out top (where are my 2000s girls?), and straight, slightly worn-in, faded denim becomes quietly chic with loafers and a great pair of socks.

Even the same cut of a jean, but in different washes, like the Wedgie by Levi’s, is a critical investment depending on the time of year. I’ve even been known to purchase the exact same pair of jeans, wash and all, but in varying sizes, like the Vertical by Frame. Some days I want fitted and some days I don’t, but a great pair of jeans is a great pair of jeans.

The point is, fashion doesn’t have to be monogamous. I, myself, am a fashion cheater through and through. I love multiple fragrances, multiple shampoos, multiple earrings. Jeans are no different. It isn’t about having the one and only; it’s about having the one for right now. Ahead, shop some of my 13 standout pairs featured in my well-rounded denim collection.
