Big Girl in a Skinny World at Fashion Week: Isaac Mizrahi

Fashion Week has officially ended, and sadly this will be the last time Bryant Park will be the center of the action. Since I was 13, I’d dreamed of the day when I would be involved in the hustle and bustle at the tents, I now feel so fortunate to have experienced two Fashion Weeks there. But now, Fashion Week is off to new beginnings and will be setting up shop at Lincoln Center this fall—and I must say, part of me is looking forward to the potentially less-chaotic Upper West Side locale.

I attended the Isaac Mizrahi show this morning, and I can’t think of a better finale for my Fall 2010 Fashion Week experience. The runway was breathtaking, with faux city lights strewn across the background and trees cascading over the foreground. The inspiration for the show: a stroll through Central Park. The front row was packed with all the big editors, many of whom had been MIA during the last few big shows of the week. No wonder they’d returned: No one puts on a show like Isaac. The lights dimmed, the live orchestra began to play, and snow began to fall (that’s right, snow inside the tent!).

The collection was a myriad of golden mustard yellows, saturated burnt oranges, lettuce-greens, and accents of gold, brown, and black—my favorite color palette of the season, to be sure. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the show. The pant and coat options were lovely. and the dresses were impeccable. I feel that Isaac truly knows what women are looking for, and his designs are almost always universally flattering. My way of incorporating these looks into my fall wardrobe will be by way of color. It looks like a bright winter awaits us!

Thanks for being part of my New York Fashion Week experience. Check back soon for Paris, Milan, and London.
