Aside from a killer coat and new knits, a backbone of fall fashion has always been the boot. True to form, for Fall 2020, boots ruled the roost. We saw an influx of all-purpose boots, both rubber-soled and lace-ups. The classic stacked heel took on new life with the simple addition of chain detailing. And who could forget the thigh-high, kinky boots that walked shows like Alexander McQueen and Victoria Beckham in a mix of colors and PVC?
Designers also breathed new life into shoes, giving us pairs that are just plain fun. We saw the return of the platform, tall and embellished in all their disco glory. Its younger sister, the flatform, also made an appearance, and is ideal for the cool girl who wants to opt out of the towering height. No matter your personal style, there’s a shoe this season that's right for you. Buy now, thank us later.

Lace-Up Boots
Cover some serious ground in these rugged bad boys. Designers like Valentino (left), and Rochas (right) sent these laidback styles down the runway. The best part? They look better with more wear and tear.

Dr. Martens Jadon Leather Combat Boots
Dr. Martens are our forever go-to for a good lace-up pair.

Heron Preston Security boots
Pair with black pants for a perfectly casual look.

R13 Platform Combat Boots
Your boss bitch moment.

Thigh-High Boot
A shoe that lets you dominate in both the boardroom and bedroom—take note from Alexander McQueen (left), and Victoria Beckham (right). For work, pair with a dress of any length to elongate your legs, and for the bedroom...wear with nothing at all.

Loewe Over the Knee Boots
This stretch leather over-the-knee boot is the perfect option if you're a bit taller.

Alexander Wang Mascha Over The Knee Boot
Pair this square-toe pair with an LBD for a seriously sexy date night look.

Proenza Schouler Faux Leather Stretch Thigh-High Boots
This heel height is more everyday-appropriate.

Flatforms
Take a cue from designers like MSGM (left) and Erdem (right) and add a lift of height to your look with a flatform. Whether they're open or closed toe, this style pairs perfectly with ribbed tights or a sock.

Mari Giudicelli Mica Platform Sandals
Mari Giudicelli gives this shoe a beachy flair with leather laces and a braided jute platform. Pair this bright pair with cropped jeans for a relaxed, beachy vibe.

Paloma Barceló Fuji Cuir
Pair with a white linen dress for a look that encapsulates summer.

Brother Vellies Abbi Flatform Sandals
Channel your inner hippie with this woven rafia pair from Brother Vellies.

Boots with Chains
The stacked heel boot has always been a staple for fall, but this season, designers like Longchamp (left), Ulla Johnson (right) and Off-White gave the style a lift with the addition of chain detailing.

Frye Julia Harness Chain Tall Boot
Channel your inner rockstar with this chain-harness pair from Frye.

Kendall Miles Attitude Calf Boot
The Prada Fall 2019 collection reignited the trend of mini-bags worn as footwear (see Chanel Spring/Summer 2008). Kendall Miles gives an updated take by adding it to a pointed-toe boot.

Marc Ellis Black Leather Ankle Boots
Try this folded pair from Marc Ellis with a longer silk skirt for a sophisticated look.

Heavy-Tred Ankle Boots
Looking for a more comfortable option this fall? This rugged style from the likes of Alexander Mcqueen (left) and Valentino (right) will allow you to cover some serious ground.

Aquatalia Angelina
Your basic pair of boots to buy now and wear season after season.

Sorel Women's Lennox™ Chelsea Bootie
This waterproof pair from Sorel is perfect for not-so-sunny days.

Pierre Hardy Elton Booties
This toffee suede pair from Pierre Hardy = the perfect fall purchase.

Clergerie Women's Wallie Boots
This front-zip pair from Clergerie will become your everyday boot.

Platforms
Channel your inner Bianca Jagger with a pair of platforms. From Rochas (left) to Miu Miu (right), designers tapped into their disco-queen alter-egos, and now so can you.

Staud Jane Croc-Effect Leather Platform Sandals
This chunky mock-croc style pairs perfectly with a maxi dress.

Kate Spade Grace Leopard Platform Sandals
Pair with a leopard dress for a full animal print moment.

Schutz Keefa Leather Platform Sandals
This metallic pair from Schutz is the perfect addition to your next black-tie look.
