On any given weekday morning in Midtown, you can spot a corporate employee with an odd-looking outfit and a plethora of tote bags. The telltale signs of a commuter are running shoes paired with a pencil skirt, at least one infamous "ludicrously capacious bag," and sweat beads dripping from their forehead. Commuting in the city is no joke, and it takes more preparation than you can imagine. As summer approaches, I'm determined to streamline my office style so that it can take me from day to night with ease. As a fashion editor, my day may start with a client meeting that requires a more polished look and end with a happy hour that lets me play with more trends and accessories. No one has mastered this "desk-to-drinks" vibe better than my coworker, Aniyah Morinia, and in partnership with Nordstrom, she's sharing her styling secrets. To see how she transforms one look three ways, keep reading.

"Despite working in a pretty casual office, I still like to incorporate pieces that would be appropriate for a more traditional corporate office. Take these oversize longline trouser shorts from Good American that are comfortable for my subway commute from Brooklyn but still corporate enough to wear to a meeting. They go past the knee, straddling that line between shorts and culottes, which feels super on-trend right now. I opted for a classic ribbed tank to keep the palette light, but relied on this cropped button-up shirt from Madewell to add some flair to the standard collared shirt. As a fashion editor, I often have to clock into what I call my "5-to-9" after my 9-to-5. This includes running to press previews, brand dinners, or launch events in the city, so it's imperative that I have a cross-functional base that can be transformed quickly before I jet out." — Aniyah Morinia, editor, branded content

"The best kinds of client meetings involve a chic yet professional look and an amazing meal. I try to subtly show that I mean business while still staying true to my personal style by trading my jelly shoes for strappy black kitten heels and adding some sort of structured element. In this case, I opted for a waistcoat that I left unbuttoned for an effortless feel. Your first instinct may be to grab your go-to blazer, but a waistcoat is a seasonally appropriate iteration that achieves the same goal without feeling too predictable. I'm a firm believer in the power of clothes to give a confidence boost, and this look screams 'I know exactly what I'm talking about.'" — Morinia

"On casual nights after work, I love shedding layers and going back to the basics. It's summer, after all! Tanks and shorts are basically my uniform on warmer days, so I rely heavily on shoes and accessories to elevate my look. I swapped my large woven work bag for a smaller structured shoulder bag so I could be hands-free wherever the night takes me. I added a patterned silk scarf and tied it around my waist as opposed to around my neck for some dimension. I stuck to my ultra-comfy jelly mules because no matter how unpredictable life in NYC is, I always know that I'll be getting my steps in—so I might as well do it in style." — Morinia
