Meet Adele Emeli Sandé, a Scottish-born singer-songwriter who shares a first name with the "Rolling in the Deep" hit-maker. After wisely deciding to adopt her middle name as a performer, she has truly come into her own.
With several UK successes under her belt, Emeli released her first U.S. single, "Next to Me," last month, and it's been met with rave reviews. In addition to the upcoming stateside release of her debut album, Our Version of Events, she's been prepping for a few much-anticipated shows, the first of which is tonight at Chicago's Lincoln Hall. (These intimate shows will be the last chance to see her before she returns later this summer to tour with another London musical powerhouse … Coldplay.)
Emeli — whose musical influences range from Lauryn Hill and Joni Mitchell to The Little Mermaid's Ariel — chatted with MC's Sergio Kletnoy about her big plans, her guilty pleasures, and her issues with karaoke. As for Adele? There's no hard feelings.
