If Michelle Obama's nonpareil designer wardrobe is any indication, she takes her style as seriously as she does her nutrition. And much like she enriches the youth with her Let's Move! campaign, she's looking to become a sartorial sensei by hosting an educational fashion workshop.
According to WWD, the event will feature industry insiders and experts with names like Prabal Gurung, Maria Cornejo, Reed Krakoff, and Bibhu Mohapatra in the mix. Students from colleges and universities in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington will attend the workshop, which precedes the White House's Celebration of Design reception on October 8th.
In an e-mail obtained by WWD, presumably addressed to potential participants, White House social secretary Jeremy Bernard wrote the following:
"The purpose of this event is to bring members of the fashion industry to the White House and enlighten, educate and mentor the next generation of fashion leaders," he explained. "As a prominent member of the fashion industry, we would love to have you participate on October 8th and share your talent, expertise and advice with students who have demonstrated a strong interest in a fashion career."
We may have carved out our own careers in industry, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't feeling twinges of envy towards those who will be in attendance. After all, like the late and great actress Annie Russell, we'll always be students inside the fickle world of fashion. Perhaps it's time to dust off the ol' college ID...
