Episode 22: The Masthead With Marie Claire Video
How-To hair makeovers, plus 101 real woman in Holiday Dresses,
We're doing a hair makeover shoot with Serge Normant. He works with a ton of celebrities from, you know, Julia Roberts to Julian Moore to-- the list is really endless.
I Googled Serge last night and I was really impressed with the search results because he's done a lot of celebrities and a lot of magazine covers.
He had an idea of giving the red carpet treatment to real women, sort of enforcing that idea of being really pampered and going quite over the top with hair.
My vision for the shoot was to do something that will be slightly drastic from the way they came in to the way are photographed afterwards, so it's that kind of transformation that's not really that subtle, it's really going all the way to the extreme.
I normally wear my hair down because it's just very long, and I'd like to learn some ways to do my hair that are simple and easy but still have results that are amazing and glamorous.
One of the things that I think will be most interesting for our readers about this story is getting to see the girls before in their really raw, natural state and just how much we transform them through hair and makeup and styling. I mean, it's really very dramatic the difference.
What Serge is really good at is looking at a woman's face shape, looking at her hair texture, and also looking-- feeling-- talking to her and feeling out what she's comfortable wearing. Lindsay, who's an art director, she has naturally curly hair but straightened it just because it's easier but then as he put these curls in her hair, I think she really started to feel sexier and it just brought out a whole different personality in her.
And it's funny because you see people changing their attitude and the way they posed, the way they moved, you know, a look just can create all that so it's quite interesting to see this transformation.
I hope to learn to take a bit of a risk when you're getting dressed up, you know, you can really go all out and look so much more amazing.
I think it's, you know, the matter of allowing them just to see what they could look like with different type of hair so I think it just gives you some kind of an inspiration just to try something at least different from what you're used to.
For me, there's sort of very few limited styles that I will try and spend on a little bit more time on in the evening but in terms of a hair makeover, to break these women out of their usual comfort zone and really show them that it's not as hard as they would think, so it's something that they can achieve at home, too.
The Sunsilk Anti-Flat has given you twice the volume and more confidence, but, confidence has its own problems. Sunsilk. We're here to help.
And look out, step behind you a little bit.
Today we're shooting 101 real women for the December 101 Dress issue.
Ready for wardrobe?
We decided to shoot 101 readers of the magazine because who doesn't need to dress for the holidays? We had a huge range of prices but what we wanted to do was really reflect the diversity of our readership and the different ways in which people can wear dresses.
I'm excited to be here. I guess I'm excited to wear fancy clothes and nice clothes because I never do this in my real life.
Christmas and New Year's is often the time when you do wear a dress, and we had so many fantastic dresses that we wanted to show.
It's like what to wear anywhere you're gonna go, any occasion. On New Year's or to your office party, just as many dresses as we could squeeze into this one issue.
Just getting dressed up and having my makeup done and my hair done and that's it, you know, I'm like checking out all the shoes and the dresses. They're just a lot of fun.
We're just trying to keep everything as clean as possible, just accentuate little things, bring out their eyes a little bit but pretty much keep them true to what they are, just to make every girl look beautiful and comfortable.
Yes, it's like--
And make sure everyone's happy and they're in a dress that they wanna wear.
It's actually quite exciting to do 101 women because I have 101 heads of hair that are unique and gorgeous in their own right.
I am thrilled to be here. I came all the way back from Portland, Oregon. I'm most excited just to get on the fancy shoes and the party dress and just get in front of that camera.
We thought when we set off doing it, this is gonna be a really difficult shoot. It's real people, they're not used to being in front of the camera, but in fact everybody loved it.
I learned to let loose and just be myself during the shoot.
The pictures are turning out so beautiful and everybody is just-- it's like the most feel-good story we've ever done.
It's just fun environment, a lot of pretty girls just shooting, it's fun.
You're like, [unknown], yeah like that.
This is-- I've gotta say this is like the most rewarding, the most fun I've ever had on a shoot.
Yay, you made it. Woo-hoo!
Hi, Sara. I'm Zoe, welcome to Marie Claire.
Hi, thank you.
I entered the Marie Claire Style Boot Camp Contest and was lucky enough to get chosen.
She feels like she's in touch with fashion but she's not really, doesn't have her own identity out there yet so she put herself up to the challenge. How do you feel about wearing this?
You're scaring me a little bit so I know you're gonna take it.
