Well, this just keeps getting more and more awkward.

Hello and welcome back to the saga that is Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s relationship! If you know anything about Justin and Jessica, it’s that they typically keep things cute in public. But I guess all those years of repressed drama came to a head last week when Justin was caught by paparazzi getting cozy with actress Alisha Wainwright (opens in new tab) while filming their new movie, Palmer, in New Orleans. Justin held Alisha’s hand (opens in new tab), Alisha had her hand on Justin’s thigh (opens in new tab)—it was all very weird.

Following the drama caused by those pictures, Justin ended up making a Notes app Instagram statement (opens in new tab) to explain himself and apologize to Jessica and his family for the trouble he caused. Justin denied that anything happened with Alisha and called his actions a “strong lapse in judgment.”

“I stay away from gossip as much as I can, but for my family, I feel it is important to address recent rumors that are hurting the people that I love,” Justin wrote. “A few weeks ago, I displayed a strong lapse in judgment—but let me be clear—nothing happened between me and my costar.”

Justin continued, adding, “I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son. I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that. I am incredibly proud to be working on Palmer. Looking forward to continuing to make this movie and excited for people to see it.”

But wait, there’s a new development! According to an Us Weekly (opens in new tab) source, Jessica actually had to push Justin to make this public apology to begin with, if you can believe. Honestly, I don’t blame her.

“Jessica encouraged Justin to put out his statement on Instagram because she felt embarrassed by his actions and wanted him to take accountability,” the source said, making a point to note that the couple are “still united.”

FWIW, People (opens in new tab) reported last week that Justin and Jessica are reportedly “working through this,” (opens in new tab) so I’m guessing Justin’s apology is a good sign here.
