Exclusive: Meet the warrior women training Diana Prince in @WonderWomanFilm: https://t.co/2m5Q6hEMzr #WonderWoman pic.twitter.com/2LKCnbiVA0March 24, 2016
Women have been waiting forever for their own superhero movie, which is why our first look at the upcoming Wonder Woman film was met with an almighty YAAAAS. The photo, which was released exclusively by Entertainment Weekly, gives us a glimpse not only of Diana/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), but also her mother Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) along with aunts Antiope (Robin Wright) and Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli).
Wonder Woman will be an origin story about how Diana Prince became the superhero we know today. It takes place on Themyscira, a hidden island where the Amazon women of Greek mythology have been ruling, sans men, for centuries. Her mother and aunts are training her to become the greatest warrior of all time, but they don't always agree on the methods. Whereas Hippolyta wants to shield her from the world of men, Antiope wants to prepare her for it. Sounds just like my childhood.
Wonder Woman is slated to debut on June 23, 2017.
