For those who want a relaxing sojourn to the beach coupled with a culturally rich city, Savannah, Georgia fits the bill. This city was the only one that survived from General Sherman's March to the Sea during the Civil War—legend has it he couldn't bear to burn down its beauty. Lucky for Savannah—today it sits as one of the most charming cities in the south. Drink in history at Bonaventure Cemetery or spend the day walking the picturesque waterfront. And as an added bonus: the beach is less than a 30-minute drive or shuttle ride away!

The rainy Pacific Northwest isn't the first place to come to mind for spring break—but Portland, Oregon is the perfect getaway. Nature lovers will be satisfied with Forest Park, home to over 70 miles of hiking trails. Portland boasts the country's most exciting up-and-coming food scene, and to drink, there's plenty of beer—31 microbreweries in the city alone! And if you've got a car, you can drive the 28 miles southwest to sample wines in the Willamette Valley Wine Country. Plus: if your trip falls in April or later, you can visit the International Rose Test Garden, chock full of breathtaking rose bushes.

Itching for European ambiance but can't finance a transatlantic flight? Head to the closest option for a taste of Europe: Montreal, Quebec. The options in the Canadian province's largest city are endless. Spend the day in the très European Vieux-Montreal, or Old Town, where the streets are cobblestoned and the architecture eye-catching, and in the evening embracing the fun nightlife scene. Regardless of how you spend your time, with local delicacies like poutine and crepes, you know you'll be eating well.

If you're looking for the classic spring break, all you need for a good time is the sun, a beach and a nearby bar. While the Caribbean may be out of your price range, sunny spots in the states may not be. Fort Myers, Florida fits the bill for warm temperatures—it's southern Florida location makes sure of that—and has miles of sandy beaches. To boot, there's countless beach bars and for spring breakers to get their cocktail fix without ever leaving the shore.

If fresh powder is what you're looking for, but you don't want to pay the steep prices that come with ski destinations like Park City or Aspen, check out Vermont's variety of ski resorts. Snow sport lovers will hit the slopes in Vermont's Green Mountains, and ski or snowboard with lift tickets that cost less than $100 per day at resorts such as Mad River Glen in Waitsfield or Okemo Moutain Resort in Okemo.
