What We're Reading: Yet Another Jane Austenish Novel

Share

Between Jane Austen's own writing, the 50-something films based on them, and the endless books that have stemmed from her work, it's no surprise that another Austen-inspired novel has popped up. But amidst all the hype from Janeites (those obsessed with Jane Austen), it's rare to find a novel so rich with genuine Austen essence. This debut novel delivers just that.

My Jane Austen Summer: A Season in Mansfield Park
Author: Cindy Jones, winner of the Writers' League of Texas Manuscript Contest and debut novelist.
Genre: Mansfield Park meets Sex and the City.
What Happens: After her mother's death, the loss of her job and a heart-wrenching breakup turned stalking addiction (hey, we've all been there), Lily Berry finds solace in Jane Austen's novels. But once things take an even worse turn, she decides to escape to England for a Jane Austen Literary Festival, where she explores her relationships with a new man, new friends and a new outlook on life.
Why Read It: Jones' Austenish charm dances through each chapter, causing you fall in love with Lily right from the first few pages while empathizing with the ever complicated issues of her life. What's more, the sub-characters are well developed and are just as fascinating as the protagonist.
Details: William Morrow, March 29, $14.99
