Texas Woman Kept On Life Support to Keep "Distinctly Abnormal" Fetus Alive

Texas has some of the harshest abortion laws in the country.

Right now, Marlise Munoz, is brain dead and on life support for the sole reason of preserving the life of the fetus, which is deformed from lack of oxygen — against the family's and husband's wishes, according to Daily Mail UK via AP News.

The husband, Erick Munoz found his wife unconscious on the kitchen floor on November 26 after she had suffered from a pulmonary embolism. She was 14 weeks pregnant at the time

Although, Erick Munoz knew that if he ever found her in such a condition, his wife's wishes would have been to take her off life support. Yet, the hospital where she is being kept at has a different view. According to Daily Mail UK, "John Peter Smith Hospital says it's bound by state law that prohibits the withdrawal of treatment from a pregnant patient, although several experts interviewed by The Associated Press have said the hospital is misapplying the law."

Medical records show that the fetus is "distinctly abnormal," with fluid building up inside the skull and possibly has a heart problem.

A hearing is scheduled on Friday to take Marlise off of life support and return the body to the family.

We know that Texas has some of the strictest abortion laws in the nation, but this seems objectively horrible. The act of keeping this woman who is LEGALLY DEAD on life support against her family's wishes in order to preserve a severally deformed fetus seems more immoral than actually taking her off of life support.
