I Wore These Trends During NYFW, and They Turned Into Major Street Style Moments

They caught the attention of photographers outside the shows.

Over the years, Fashion Month has become about more about the clothes you see on the runway. The attention to street style has grown exponentially over the last few seasons, and what you wear to the shows is of major consideration for anyone who’s secured an invitation. Nowhere is this more evident than at New York Fashion Week, when New Yorkers—who historically have been hailed as some of the best-dressed people in the world—tend to don their best and brightest wares. The outfit inspiration is truly everywhere.

Of course, that means there’s also quite a bit of competition when it comes to getting noticed by street style photographers. And while I could pretend to be blasé about the whole situation, I won’t lie: It feels nice to walk past a group of people and have them clamor to snap your photo. So, when I’m putting my outfits together each season, of course I'm thinking about what trends they may be looking to photograph outside the shows.

This season was alllll about bundling up while looking chic. I knew I wanted to wear at least one monochrome ensemble, and I also prioritized my chocolatey brown calf hair bomber, as I predict the texture will soon be everywhere. (I noticed it all over the Fall 2026 runways.) Same goes for wearing two bags at once—a practical trend that also meant I didn’t have to decide on only one handbag per day. And when all else failed? I knew a massive faux fur with a soon-to-be It Bag would do just the trick.

Below, a recap of all trends I tried during New York Fashion Week that caught the attention of street style photographers. Not everything I wore is brand new, of course (normalize keeping and wearing your pieces for a long time!), but I made sure to link any in-stock pieces I could find, or similar items to get the same look. Happy Fashion Month!

I typically only do head-to-toe monochrome with neutrals, but I couldn’t resist the chance to do a full-on cool blue moment with this coat from Zara I’d owned for some time but had never worn. I paired it with my go-to satin pants from Vince (we’ve talked about these before) and my tortoise Otra sunnies with blue lenses.

The star of the show, though, was this Aphrodite sweater from British knitwear brand Hades. I picked black accessories to complement the graphic on the cardigan and ground the light blue. (It was also an excuse to wear this feathery Proenza Schouler bag I nabbed at a sample sale years ago.) All in all, this was one of my favorite looks of the week.

    Double-Bagging It

    Bella Gerard

Wearing two bags at a time used to be a last resort when your cute purse didn’t fit whatever you needed to get through the day. But no more! Double-bagging is a runway-approved trend now, so I knew I had to try it out for myself on one of my longest days of fashion week. I went for a Marc-on-Marc moment with the new Marc Jacobs Snapshot Shoulder Bag in shiny croc and this edgy black tote covered in grommets, pins, and key charms. I let the Snapshot be the only pop of red and stuck to black, white, and gray all over, wearing this bold coat from Zara, a faux fur hat, and these funky embellished trousers from Karen Millen. (I need to style them with the matching blazer ASAP!)

A “Coat Is the Outfit” Moment

    Bella Gerard

When your schedule is stacked and you’ve run out of great looks, the cold-weather trend that will never, ever die is a statement coat that is the outfit. This old Cinq à Sept faux fur has seen me through many a February, and I know I can pair it with denim and a fun purse for a look that’s pared-back but still packs a punch. I wanted a subtle shot of color, so Longchamp’s new Looong Shoulder Bag in pistachio green was a no-brainer. (Side note: This is my new favorite east-west style bag of all time. It's made from a buttery soft leather, and it fits so much.) I kept everything else simple, with a leather top for texture play, wrap-style glasses, and my new go-to jeans from Spanx. (Despite the fact that they have some serious shaping tech built-in, they’re genuinely the most comfortable denim I own.)

    Anything Calf Hair

    Bella Gerard

One of the trends I saw absolutely everywhere this season was (often faux) calf hair leather. Also called pony hair, it’s basically the hair side of a hide that’s been shaved short and smooth to resemble the look of horse hair. I got so many compliments on this brown faux calf hair bomber I bought at H&M, which also has a matching calf hair skirt I’ll be styling soon. This look ended up being pretty H&M-heavy once I decided to lean into the equestrian look and add these embellished gloves into the mix. I finished off with a checkered skirt, and a pair of vintage sunnies, and my go-to Fendi baguette.
