Beauty giant Revlon just did something revolutionary: The brand has vowed to eliminate some of the most toxic chemicals—including a number of carcinogens—from its makeup and hair products.
"After defending its use of carcinogens, Revlon reformulates to stake a claim in the growing safe cosmetics market," the company said in a statement.
Today's announcement comes on the heels of a petition, organized by the non-partisan nonprofit Environmental Working Group, that was signed by over 100,000 consumers, Time reports. For Revlon's part, they know this will transform them "from one of the industry's laggards to a safe cosmetics leader," their statement said.
Makeup toxicity is an area of growing concern for savvy consumers, and the fact that Revlon is jumping out in front of the problem is seriously commendable. Who doesn't want to have peace of mind when applying their daily products?
