How Queen Elizabeth's Turquoise Dress Secretly Nodded to NHS Workers
The British monarch offered a message of hope during the coronavirus crisis in a rare televised speech.

This evening, Queen Elizabeth addressed the public in a rare televised speech (opens in new tab). The British monarch offered a message of hope amid the coronavirus crisis, saying:
"While we have faced challenges before, this one is different. This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed – and that success will belong to every one of us. We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again."
She also spoke of the incredible work National Health Service employees are doing on the front lines of fighting COVID-19.
"I want to thank everyone on the NHS front line, as well as care workers and those carrying out essential roles, who selflessly continue their day-to-day duties outside the home in support of us all," she said.
In addition to her words of appreciation, the Queen offered another signal of solidarity to those doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals working tirelessly to save patients and stop the spread of this disease during tonight's broadcast. For her speech, which was filmed at Windsor Castle (opens in new tab), the Queen chose to wear a dress in a very particular shade of turquoise. It's a color often used in medical scrubs, and given the nature of the British monarch's speech (and the thought that goes in to the Queen's wardrobe), it's hard to believe that would be a coincidence.
'Staff from the Royal Liverpool University Hospital join in the nationwide Clap for Carers campaign. You can see a few people wearing scrubs in nearly the same shade as the Queen’s dress in the group.'
