The Plaid Bags You Need For Fall
Revive the prep-school print with color combos and patterns that suit every style.

We’re mad for plaid! This season, the quintessential fall print has taken hold on accessories. Our favorite? Seeing the prep school print emblazoned on handbags. Consider making it your statement piece by pairing with jeans and a plain sweater, or get creative by wearing more than one plaid piece in complementary color ways at once. Not convinced just yet? Here, Tina Craig of @bagsnob, explains why a plaid bag is fall's must-carry accessory.
Marie Claire: Plaid has always been a quintessential back-to-school trend. How are we seeing grown-up takes on the pattern?
Tina Craig: Plaid printed on a sheer fabric gives traditional plaids a fresh take and creates dimension. I’m obsessed with the PVC plaid that Calvin Klein and now Fendi are known for. When it comes to mixing plaid with current trends, a neon plaid (à la Prada) is another favorite of mine.
MC: What makes a plaid bag a worthy investment over, say, a leather one?
TC: Plaid is more versatile than you might think. If you have a daily uniform, a plaid bag makes a strong statement without you having to completely revamp your wardrobe. Bags add color and personality to our wardrobe, and plaid is one of those patterns that never go out of style.
MC: What should people wear with their plaid bags?
TC: I love looks that feature competing plaid prints—almost to the point of clashing. It’s a way to push the envelope and have some fun with plaid. If you prefer a more classic style, add a plaid bag to a white blouse and a navy blazer.
