Friends! Have you missed me? I missed you! But thanks for reading Self Checkout and holding down the fort as I got married and went on a little minimoon (more on that later!) Now that I’m back, my brain is straddling two things: the last few weeks of summer and what fall has in store. I’m watching the new arrivals roll in, but also keeping a close eye on what’s languishing in the sale section of our favorite retailers. And let me tell you, there’s good stuff. A lot that would work transeasonally, which is what we’re tackling in my send today. Here’s what I found that will carry you through summer’s final heatwaves and well into October and November.

Mules & Loafers

When I told a colleague what I was writing about this week, she wrote back “LARROUDÉ” and tipped me off to these loafer mules (plus this pair too). They’re right up my alley and can be worn with or without socks. (If you’re going to do socks, I suggest my fave cashmere socks, which are also on sale!)

Long Live Layering

Live in New York long enough and you’ll become a pro at dressing for multiple temperatures in the span of 10 hours. One of my go-to tricks? Layering a shirt like this one over a tank top for those 60-85 degree days.

Relaxed Jeans

I am positively obsessed with these jeans. They’re light enough that I am quite literally wearing them now with a black T-shirt and my go-to A. Emery sandals (it’s 90 degrees), but can’t wait to wear them with a chunky red turtleneck and boots, too!

Newsletter Pants Now

The Newsletter Pants that took the internet by storm a couple of years ago are half-price —and yes, still just as good. (I asked a good friend about them just last week.) If they’re within your budget, now’s the time.

Slingbacks

I wore Amina Muaddi shoes throughout my wedding weekend (suggested by my friend and stylist Shiona Turini), and I couldn’t stop telling her “I get it” now. I totally understand why the girls love them—extremely comfortable—and love the mesh options in particular. They didn’t rub against my toes or feel constrictive. Additionally, this heel shape was perfect for our indoor-outdoor events, and the height was so easy to get around in.
