Famous Best Friends

Despite their 12-year age difference, these two bonded immediately, even before they began filming Whip It. As Ellen said of first meeting Drew, "It was a surreal moment for me in my life. You could just feel her warmth and kindness immediately, and the way she carried herself was just so grounded. So then it was like, 'Oh, this is going to be great.'"

After sharing the screen in New Moon and starring in the upcoming film The Runaways, the two have been attached at the hip.

Both were teenage actresses and have been close since they were cast in 1995's Now and Then. More than 15 years later they're still each other's best friend.

Jennifer and Courteney formed a fast friendship back in 1994 on the set of Friends, and a decade and a half later they're still as close as ever.

Courteney has said that one of the reasons the friendship has lasted for such a long time is because they trust each other implicitly, "I guess the reason why I love Jennifer so much is that I feel very safe with her — always."

While they were battling it out as enemies on Beverly Hills 90210, the two became friends offscreen.

"I love her like a sister. I tell her everything," Tiffani's said of Jennie. Jennie in return introduced Tiffani to Brady Smith, who became her husband.

The two actresses bonded over children and proximity, starting out as neighbors.

"Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my doorbell, and said, 'Dahling, Sam [Mendes] is off shooting,'" said Reese in 2007, "'and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it's almost 9 o'clock and I've had nothing to drink — do you have any wine?'"

The two are so close, Kate has been quoted saying, of her daughter Lily and Victoria's son, Brooklyn, "I am dreading the day Lily brings home a boy. But she and the Beckham boys get on really well. So if she did have to have a boyfriend, then I suppose Brooklyn would get my seal of approval."

The two former models have been close since their runway days. Tyra was not only a bridesmaid at Kimora's wedding, but she's also the godmother of her daughter, Ming Lee.

Growing up the children of celebrities, the two manged to forge a strong friendship — one they've maintained as they created their own incredible careers and families.

"Nicole was always there with her door open, her arms open, her ears open — just what you need," Naomi said in 2002.

The two Australian actresses became friends before either became famous and are still very close today.

Perhaps the most powerful set of best friends in media, Oprah and Gayle have been tight since the '70s.

If Oprah and Gayle are the most powerful besties, these two may be the most beautiful. As supermodels, they ruled the runway in the '90s and still had time to goof off together backstage.

Perhaps it's their shared language — Penelope is from Spain and Salma's Mexican — or their shared occupation, but the two actresses have been close for years.

While filming Bandidas together, a plane almost crashed onto their set. "We almost died. At that very moment a thought came across my mind that if I were to die at that moment at least I'd die with my best friend," said Penélope.

In our January issue Rashida said that her BFF Natalie "would fight beasts 10 times her size to protect the people she loves. She is the kind of friend who can sub in and love you through the times when you can't necessarily love yourself."

Tina and Amy know that in a male-dominated industry like comedy, funny girls need to stick together. They became friends, long before Saturday Night Live, while studying improv at Chicago's Second City Theater in the early '90s.

While Filming The Edge of Love the two actresses became close and bonded over their shared "nerdiness." "We swap books. I went to Keira's house for dinner and we talked about books and swapped some. We play cards and do newspaper crosswords together," said Sienna.

Both girls have dated Jonas brothers and were famous before they could legally order a drink — it's no wonder they're besties.
