One listen to Taylor Swift's new single "Shake It Off," and it's clear she's evolved (from country music to pop, Nashville to New York City, lovestruck to fiercely independent) and liberated herself in the process. In a new Rolling Stone cover story, she elaborates on her personal growth by comparing herself to Shoshanna from Girls.
"I could label all my girlfriends as Shoshannas, Jessas, Marnies or Hannahs," she explained. "[...] I'm Shoshanna. Shoshanna gets excited about things, she's really girly. And when she was in a relationship that was very comfortable, she made the decision to get out and go experience new things on her own. And now she's becoming more sure of herself and taking life head-on, in a way that I can relate to. Even though I've never accidentally smoked crack at a warehouse party and run pantsless through Brooklyn."
Jokes aside, living life la Shosh has left her happier than ever andlooking spectacular. The songstress donned an all-American T-shirt (wet from the beach, we can only presume) and true blue jeans for her cover.
"I really like my life right now," she said. "I have friends around me all the time. I've started painting more. I've been working out a lot. I've started to really take pride in being strong. I love the album I made. I love that I moved to New York. So in terms of being happy, I've never been closer to that."
The conversation turns to her much-publicized relationship with Harry Styles, though the mag laments that she doesn't reveal very much. Of what she did say, the abridged version is that they're still friends, she hasn't dated anyone since (which is relatively shocking), and that many of the songs on her soon-to-be-released album "1989" were penned with their relationship in mind. In fact, the star reveals they once got into a pretty serious accident that resulted in a trip to the hospital and twenty stitches. And there is one track that is appropriately titled, "Style," but Swift adds, "We should have just called it 'I'm Not Even Sorry'."
