We've heard Allison Williams act and sing on Girls, but come December 4 we'll have the chance to see her in the role of a young boy who never wants to grow up and has the ability to fly — NBC is planning a live TV musical of Peter Pan with Williams in the title role.
"I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true," said Williams in a press statement. "It's such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I'm very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides, what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?"
"We couldn't be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan," said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt in the statement. "She's a lovely rising star on the award-winning show Girls — where she occasionally shows off her incredible vocal talent — and we think she will bring the perfect blend of 'boyish' vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken's powerful Captain Hook."
Executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron called Williams "a major find." They added, "She will reinvent the iconic role of Peter Pan with her wit, her warmth, her dynamic flying and her wonderful musical abilities. The score will be sung beautifully and introduced to a whole new generation of families."
The musical premieres about a year after NBC's The Sound of Music Live.
UPDATE: The first photo of Allison Wiliams in Peter Pan garb has been released. The star is sporting a super short wig and a classic green ensemble, most fitting for the role of Peter. Can't wait to see her in action come December 4!
