The Best Anti-Aging Products, All Expert-Approved

And yes, sunscreen is one of them.

Anti-aging products can be tricky–their labels make all sorts of claims while the results can be difficult to decipher. If you start an anti-aging regime in your twenties and your skin stays taut, is it from those pricey creams or from good genes? To clear this confusion up once and for all, we consulted three experts for their take on what works–what really doesn't.

Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi, Founder & Director of Capital Laser & Skin Care and Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the George Washington Medical Center

"My number one anti-aging product are glycolic pads. Depending on skin type, you can use glycolic pads either once or twice weekly for sensitive skin or every night for oily skin. They help turn over skin cells, reduce pigmentation and improve texture which is very important as the skin ages. Additionally, Retinol and tretinoin (Retin A) are the most well-studied anti-aging ingredients on the market. They are proven to promote collagen formation and skin cell turnover. Although prescription strength Retin A is the gold-standard for anti-aging, it can be irritating to a lot of people, so start with a less intense over the counter version and work up to the prescription strength if possible. The number one thing to do if you are serious about anti-aging is to start wearing a moisturizer or makeup with sunscreen EVERY day and do not go tanning at the beach or salon. These are things that most 20-something women still do and it really ages their skin badly."

"For anti-aging products at night, I recommend products derived from Vitamin A. These include tretinoin (Retin-A) and retinol. In the morning, I like exfoliating and renewing products that contain glycolic or lactic acid. A product line like Glymed produces consistently effective products. Probably the most important skin care product you can apply to prevent and reverse skin aging is sunscreen. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that covers both UVA and UVB and has an SPF of 30 or higher."

"When it comes to your skincare routine, begin using an anti-aging night serum. Even if you have a break out every once in a while, you need an anti-aging serum to sleep in so you can help your body repair itself. For the body, start dry brushing before your shower every morning. It's a great way to exfoliate the body while stimulating collagen production and maintaining elasticity all over–it's also great for cellulite. My favorite anti-aging serum is my own Rejuvenating Serum. The combination of the olive oil and argan oil eliminates fine lines around the face while jojoba oil keeps the skin moist. I also love Eminence Organics Monoi Night Cream. It's got lovely Argan Stem Cells to stimulate nice cell production while you sleep! There are two types of women – women who take care of their skin from very early on and people who wait until they see things they don't like. A good routine needs to start when you're young so you can slow down the aging process. Your early twenties is the time to start taking skincare more seriously and realize it's a lifestyle you will be rewarded for."
