To regain something of a familiar structure in my life, I tuned into ESPN's 10-part documentary The Last Dance (opens in new tab), which hit Netflix July 19. The limited series follows Michael Jordan's time with the Chicago Bulls during its final championship season of 1997-98. Since most of the programs I usually watch, like sporting events, are on hold (opens in new tab), this series has been a lifeline after a long week of WFH life (opens in new tab). Since the series focuses on the past, you can expect to not see any of Jordan's present—director Jason Hehir planned it that way. "I wasn't interested in the opinion of any wife or kids in this," said Hehir to The Athletic's Richard Deitsch (opens in new tab). "We had the storytellers we wanted, and I felt like we had the story covered from every angle. "
While I totally respect his decision, I'm also very nosy! Here's everything you need to know about Jordan's wife Yvette Prieto.
Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto met in a nightclub in 2007.
Before meeting Jordan, Prieto was a Cuban model who grew up in Miami; she's worked for designers like Alexander Wang. Before she met Jordan, Prieto dated the brother of singer Enrique Iglesias, Julio Iglesias Jr., according to The Bleacher Report (opens in new tab).
Like many couples in the 21st century, there's something about finding love under multicolor techno lights, and this is exactly what happened to Jordan and Prieto. In 2009, they moved in together in a 5,500-square-foot home in Miami. They announced their engagement in 2011.
Jordan and Prieto had an estimated $10 million wedding.
On April 27, 2013, Jordan and Prieto tied the knot at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, followed by a reception at Bear's Club in Jupiter, Florida (opens in new tab). Over 300 guests, including Tiger Woods and Spike Lee, attended the nuptials. Usher and Robin Thicke were also there (opens in new tab) to give special performances during the night.
A source told Us Weekly (opens in new tab) that the celebration of love final price tag estimated around $10 million, which if you're Michael Jordan seems kind of like pocket change?
They did sign a prenuptial agreement.
Unlike his previous marriage with Juanita Vanoy, Jordan and Prieto signed a prenuptial agreement. According to a legal document presented by the Daily Mail (opens in new tab), each will get to keep whatever assets they bring into the marriage. If they divorce, she'll receive $1 million for every year they're married. If the couple splits up after 10 years, Prieto will get $5 million for every year they stayed together.
"She feels they have a strong relationship. She can't imagine that they'd ever split up," a source to the couple told the publication.
Jordan and Prieto have two kids together.
Seven months after they tied the knot, the couple announced they were expecting. On February 9, 2014, the pair welcomed twin girls Victoria and Ysabel Jordan, per Us Weekly (opens in new tab). Much like most celebrity parents (opens in new tab) these days, photos of their twins are rare among the internet. (We get it! Privacy is important.)
Jordan also has three children, Jeffrey, Marcus, and Jasmine, from his previous marriage with Juanita Vanoy (opens in new tab); Jordan and Vanoy divorced in 2006.
