Zendaya just became the youngest person ever to win an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, and the internet and I are totally freaking out over it. The 24-year-old took home the gong for her role as Rue in HBO's Euphoria. It was her first Emmy nomination ever, might I add—so, naturally, a nationwide freakout has commenced.
Wearing a gorgeous black and white dress, Zendaya was on the urge of tears when accepting her award. Not only is Zendaya the youngest person to ever win in that category—the previous title holder was then-26-year-old Jodie Comer, who set that record last year—but she's the first Black actor to take this trophy since Viola Davis took home the award for How To Get Away With Murder in 2015.
"I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating," said Zendaya when accepting the award. "But I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there. I know that our TV show doesn't always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people. And I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, and I thank you.
So if you're wondering why Twitter is going absolutely crazy, you now understand. Here are just some of my favorites:
