Buckingham Palace Released a Rare Statement on Meghan Markle's Involvement in CBS’s Meghan and Harry, Plus One

Americans love their royals. We love it when they accomplish anything, especially getting married and having children. So, naturally, not even two weeks after the birth of baby Archie, Gayle King hosted Meghan and Harry, Plus One on CBS on Friday. Alongside this TV special came a rare comment from Buckingham Palace about the involvement of the royal couple in the documentary.
On Friday evening, Buckingham Palace released a statement with a very definitive statement: "The Duchess has not had any involvement in the CBS special, nor has she requested or given permission to friends to participate."
King interviewed the Duchess of Sussex's close friends Daniel Martin and Janina Gavankar, who did not hold back their emotion about their friend's first child. Gavankar said having a mixed-race baby in the royal family is huge to young people of color who need role models that look like them.
"There are still a lot of us who didn't even grow up with dolls that look like us, so to have the royal family bring a child of color into the world ... it's pretty awesome."
In the interview, Martin, Meghan's makeup artist, is seen in tears over the fact that his friend has to endure so much public criticism. Martin arrived in the second car behind Meghan at her wedding, which was one year ago tomorrow.
"It didn't hit us until we were in the car," Martin said of the enormous crowds at the wedding. "As we got closer, the crowds got bigger, and we were just, like, shocked. The enormity of the amount of people that wanted to witness this. That's the moment when I was like, 'OK, the world is watching this.'"
