Every time we see a celebrity in a sheer dress or a semi-naked look (example: the bralette and blazer combo), we feel the slightest pang of jealousy. How do they look so good in them and make not wearing underwear beneath a sheer, hip-high slit dress look completely...normal? We can't ever imagine showing up to a work party in a beaded naked dress. (We'd probably become a meme.) The daringly naked look, it seems, only works if you're in Hollywood.
Celebrities like Bella Hadid and Kylie Jenner love to take this risk on the red carpet, so much so that we've occasionally seen a few NSFW wardrobe malfunctions. Whether it's a completely sheer gown, or barely enough fabric to be considered a dress, many Hollywood A-listers have worn just about anything to galas and movie premieres. Click through to see your favorite stars wearing outfits that are sheer, low-cut, with cut-outs, or thigh-high slits...and sometimes, all of the above! We'll stick to our more modest cocktail dresses.

Bella Hadid
You'll never mistake a Mugler design for anything else, and Bella Hadid knows this. She chose a sexy, memorable bodysuit from the iconic fashion house for Harper's Bazaar Icons party in 2018.

Diane Kruger
Diane Kruger's Reem Acra beaded fringe dress gave off Gothic romance vibes at Vanity Fair's Oscar after-party in 2016. The embellishments strategically covered up parts of her frame for a tasteful look.

Chanel Iman
The model attended amfAR's 23rd Cinema Against AIDS Gala in 2016 wearing this mesh off-the-shoulders mermaid gown. Embroider florals were scattered across this Marchesa design.

Leomie Anderson
The model attended Harper's Bazaar Icons Party in 2018 in a long-sleeve orange dress. The sheer dress had a thigh-high lit slit to show off her glittery pumps.

Olivia Culpo
The star attended a Calzedonia show in Italy in 2018 while rocking a netted dress that revealed her undergarments.

Joan Smalls
Also at the part was Joan Smalls who wore this wavy Iris van Herpen minidress. The cold-shoulder look featured a totally sheer middle section.

Kat Graham
If you're going to wear black on the red carpet, here's a way to spice up your look. Follow Kat Graham's lead in something see-through with a deep cut neckline. She wore this dress to the 2016 American Music Awards.

Emily Ratajkowski
The star showed up in a two-piece outfit from her own clothing line collab, Inamorata x Christy Rilling, to Vanity Fair's Oscar after-party in 2020. She kept the look clean and simple with minimal jewelry.

Gwen Stefani
For the 2016 Vanity Fair Oscar's after-party, the singer donned a Yanina Couture sheer dress with petal appliqué. The scattered petals looked like falling leaves on an autumn day.

Shanina Shaik
The model attended the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards in a Naeem Khan jumpsuit. She styled a pair of high-waisted nude bottoms underneath the entirely sheer one piece and wore Bulgari earrings.

Ngoc Trinh
Model Ngoc Trinh attended the 2019 Cannes Film Festival in this skin-baring dress with swirl designs.

Lady Gaga
This was the final "outfit" to Lady Gaga's unforgettable outfit-changing performance at the 2019 Met Gala. The singer had originally arrived in this voluminous pink Brandon Maxwell gown.

Tiffany Haddish
The comedian and actress rocked a sheer black and white pattern dress by Naeem Khan for the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. She topped off the look with a matching headscarf.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
The model showed up to GQ Men of the Year Awards in 2018 while wearing a Versace dress. The sultry bondage-inspired dress drew the focus up top.

Shay Mitchell
The actress wore this completely sheer dress from Saudi label Hondaya to Vanity Fair's Oscar after-party in 2020. She accessorized the dress with Stuart Weitzman heels, a Tyler Ellis clutch, and jewelry from Djula, Vanleles Diamonds, and Kallati.

Jourdan Dunn
Jourdan Dunn attended the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards in a halter neck beaded fringe dress. The Victoria's Secret model had no qualms about showing off some skin on the red carpet.

Lameka Fox
You'll find the most sheer looks at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show after-parties. (RIP to the show.) Here, Lameka Fox walked the pink carpet in a plunging neckline lace-up gown in 2017.

Perrie Edwards
Perrie Edwards stood out of the group as Little Mix made their way down the red carpet in 2015. She wore a completely sheer shimmery dress with black undergarments.

Bella Hadid
Bella loves her Christian Dior sheer tulle gowns and showed off another one from the fashion house for the premiere of Rocketman at Cannes in 2019.

Alessandra Ambrosio
The model made an appearance at Cannes in a stunning red halter dress that had a super high side slit. The Julien Macdonald number flowed in the wind as the model worked it for the cameras.

Kim Kardashian
No bra, no problem for Kim. She was seen in this bondage-style vintage dress by Thierry Mugler as she made her way to the 2019 Hollywood Beauty Awards.

Dua Lipa
The singer attended the world premiere of Alita: Battle Angel in a strapless striped bodysuit with a cage skirt overlay. It highlighted her waist and long legs.

Gizele Oliveira
After walking the runway in lingerie at the 2018 VSFS, the Brazilian model stayed with the naked theme in a tiered tulle dress. The after-party always calls for see-through sexy outfits.

Jennifer Lopez
The singer matched the red carpet at the 2015 Met Gala in her Versace gown. In true JLo fashion, the body-hugging dress was mostly sheer.

Miley Cyrus
In lieu of a dress, Miley showed up to the 2013 iHeart Radio Awards in a corset bustier and lace-up boy shorts. She traded in stilletos for a pair of heeled Converse kicks.

Kate Moss
The connoisseur of slip dresses, Kate Moss made this sheer look work for a party back in 1993. It was simply effortless.

Jaimie Alexander
The actress arrived to the premiere of Thor: The Dark World in a long-sleeve black dress. It was anything but boring though thanks to the sheer slit on the back, which revealed her curvy frame.

Gwyneth Paltrow
The actress showed up to the Los Angeles premiere of Iron Man 3 in an Antonio Berardi dress. The look was covered in the front, but when she turned to the sides it was 100 percent sheer and sexy.

Ciara
This Julien Macdonald dress first popped up on the spring 2018 runway and was spotted on Ciara at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. The singer kept things simple with just a pair of strappy heels.

Elsa Hosk
You can always count on a star or two to wear a naked dress to after-parties. Elsa Hosk showed up at the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar soirée in this see-through crystal-studded Alberta Ferretti dress and René Caovilla heels.

Bella Hadid
For the 2017 amfAR Gala, Bella showed up in this custom Ralph & Russo couture dress. The crystals reminded us of morning dew, especially when Bella stepped onto the grass.

Hailey Baldwin
The naked jumpsuit is just as sexy as the naked dress. Hailey Baldwin pulled off this Alexandre Vauthier couture lace one-piece at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

Emily Ratajkowski
The model turned heads in her Cher-inspired outfit at the 2019 Met Gala. It was a daring custom Dundas design that exposed every inch of her silhouette.

Emma Roberts
Roberts is evidence that the naked dress can be worn in a glamorous and tasteful manner. She chose this Yanina Couture dress with Christian Louboutin shoes for the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party.

Kendall Jenner
By now, always expect Jenner to wear a naked dress to a red carpet event. She bared it all in this white Schiaparelli gown in 2018.

Marion Cotillard
At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Cotillard wore a sheer Guy LaRoche dress while protesting the lack of female filmmakers honored throughout the history of the festival.

Zoë Kravitz
Kravitz attended the 2018 Met Gala on May 7 in a Saint Laurent lace dress that exposed her whole right side. She looked amazing.

Nicki Minaj
Minaj attended the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. She wore an Off-White bodysuit and sheer skirt that revealed all her curves.

Rita Ora
Ora also attended the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards that same night. She wore a swirly patterned dress from Fleur du Mal that left little to the imagination.

Sara Sampaio
Sampaio attended the 2018 Fashion For Relief party in Cannes, France. The model chose a Roberto Cavalli dress that was covered on top, but completely see-through on the bottom.

Kim Kardashian
Somehow, only Kim can make a pair of sheer leggings work with a leather blazer and a bandeau bra. She was snapped in this outfit back in 2017, but two years later, the naked ensemble is still just as memorable.

Alessandra Ambrosio
The model arrived at Vanity Fair's Oscars after-party in 2018 wearing a bejeweled Ralph & Russo dress with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. There's no secret she killed it in this naked dress.

Kendall Jenner
Jenner attended a Tiffany & Co. event in New York City while wearing a sheer Elie Saab dress. She really #freedthenipple in this look.

Laverne Cox
Cox attended the 49th NAACP Image Awards in California. Her Abyss by Abby dress was sparkly and completely see-through to reveal a bodysuit underneath. She wore Stuart Weitzman heels, jewelry by BaubleBar and H. Stern, and carried a Lilian Afshar clutch.

Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus is known for her NSFW looks, but she really outdid herself at the 2015 VMAs. Here, she channeled a sexy Princess Leia in this strappy, silver chandelier-like outfit that just barley covers anything.

Nicki Minaj
The rapper and singer attended Haider Ackerman's Fall 2017 show in Paris with one boob out, opting to cover her nipple with a black diamond pastie. Needless to say, all eyes were likely on her—not the runway.

Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid wore a silver beaded gown with a plunging neckline to the after parties of her first Victoria's Secret fashion show in 2016—and it was clear she's comfortable in lingerie; her nude thong was completely visible under her see-through dress.

Miranda Kerr
Miranada Kerr's backless black gown looks as though it's merely being held together by giant safety pins. Posed with her left leg sticking out, it reminds of us the Angelina Jolie's right leg meme.

Kendall Jenner
Jenner arrived to the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party in a lewk. Her Rami Kadi dress was nearly naked from the waist down and she carefully maneuvered through the red carpet to avoid wardrobe malfunctions.

Amber Rose
Amber Rose's chains hung really low (haha puns), and should barely be considered a dress. The model slash actress slash designer appeared on the 2014 Video Music Awards red carpet practically naked—paying homage to a very memorable dress that Rose McGowan wore in 1998 (see next slide).

Rose McGowan
In 1998, Rose McGowan walked the VMAs red carpet in a "sheer, black beaded knee-length gown with a black thong on full display," as Refinery 29 described it in a report that McGowan's iconic nude look was a form of silent protest.
“That was my first public appearance after being sexually assaulted. I was like, ‘Is this what you want?’” McGowan explained in an interview with Dr. Oz in February. “I’ve never worn something like that before or since. That was a political statement. Of course, there was no Twitter at the time or Instagram, no way to speak for yourself."

Rihanna
During the 2014 CFDA Awards, Rihanna wore a custom Adam Selman fishnet dress, on which the designer hand-placed more than 230,000 Swarovski crystals. Her nipples were clear as day, and people had a lot of negative things to say about them. But in good-Rihanna fashion, she responded by tweeting a photo of her next to a photo of Peter Griffin from Family Guy, wearing the same ensemble, with the caption "He gets it!"

Emily Ratajkowski
Look closely and you'll notice that the sides of Emily Ratajkowski's dress are made of flesh-colored, sheer fabric—à la an ice skating costume. But her Harper's Bazaar Icons party gown definitely shows a lot of skin, with its neckline that goes all the way down to her belly button.

Cara Delevingne
During her tour to promote the movie Valerian, Cara Delevingne wore a structured, sheer Versace minidress made of small, silver discs. However, Delevingne tried to keep the look more reserved, opting to wear a nude body suit and nipple pasties.

Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner got cheeky in her sheer chainmail gown at the 2017 Met Gala—from the back, Jenner's lace-y black thong is completely visible. That, plus the asymmetrical shoulder-to-hip slit really puts this at the top of the nearly naked dresses list.

Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez wore 11 different dresses in one night—including this icy blue Nicolas Jebran gown—to host the American Music Awards in 2015. The dress features large cut-outs from her chest all the way to her backside.

Beyoncé
Despite being the last to arrive to the 2015 Met Gala, Beyoncé, in good Queen Bey fashion, made a lasting impression in this completely sheer Givenchy gown, decorated in colorful rhinestones.

Alessandra Ambrosio
The seasoned Victoria's Secret angel is obviously comfortable with her bare skin—so much so, that she opted for a pretty revealing cage-y Balmain dress during a 2014 VS Fashion Show after-party.

Keke Palmer
At the 2014 BET Awards, Keke Palmer walked the red carpet in a short, white and gold dress with cutouts that showed off her hips and cleavage.

Bleona Qertei
She might not be that well known in music yet, but Bleona Qereti has definitely made a name for herself through fashion. The Albanian singer has worn see-through tops with nothing but nipple pasties before, and her bold statement at the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party caught people's attention.

Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen's dramatic double front slits proved to be a little difficult, and she ended up flashing her "hooha" (as she referred to it) to the cameras at the 2016 American Music Awards. Later, she sarcastically apologized on Instagram.

Gigi Hadid
The then-19-year-old wasn't afraid to show some skin in her Versace swirled cut-out dress at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in 2015. While the design covered her for the most part, it also revealed some under boob and her entire left leg.

Ashley Graham
The Sports Illustrated cover model wore her first "naked dress" to the 2016 VMAs—and apparently wearing a see-through dress to a big event is a celebrity rite of passage. Rather than complete the bare-skinned look with a nude body suit—like most naked dress wearers do—Graham opted to wear black lingerie instead.

Kim Kardashian
The beauty mogul–who was pregnant with her second child, Saint, at the time—wore a risqué lingerie-like Givenchy jumpsuit to the 2015 LACMA Art and Film Gala.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga rolled up to the 2017 Grammy Awards in platform over-the-knee boots, leather shorts, and a cropped jacket that showed off her midriff—and under boob.

Stella Maxwell
The Victoria's Secret angel is pretty accustomed to wearing little to nothing on the runway—and, it appears, on the red carpet too. At the 2017 VS Fashion Show after-party, Maxwell wore what looks like lace-y lingerie with no bra.

Iggy Azelea
With two large slits and only a very small panel of fabric to cover her frontside, it was inevitable that something was bound to go wrong with Iggy Azelela's dress. She had a NSFW moment that revealed her nude underwear at the 2013 EMAs.

Iriana Shayk
During the 2015 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, the Russian model wore an asymmetrical Versace dress that completely covered the right side of her body, but only lightly covered the left side with a sheer, dotted pattern.

Jennifer Lawrence
During the premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Lawrence boldly wore a knitted Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2013 dress. But this may actually be the least revealing naked dress of all, since she paired it with a black bodysuit underneath.

Rita Ora
Normally, celebrities show off a little side boob. But Rita Ora accentuated her side butt in this black mesh Dona Karan gown at the 2015 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.

Khloé Kardashian
Thanks to some strategically placed sparkles, Khloé Kardashian's sheer gown kept her covered at the 2016 Angel Ball—for the most part anyway.

Jenna Dewan
Between its plunging v-neck and high front slit, the actress slash dancer slash businesswoman's sheer 2017 American Music Awards dress reveals a lot of cleavage and leg.

Kate Hudson
The actress showed off nearly all of her lower backside in this red Versace cut-out dress during Paris Fashion Week in 2015.

Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner stepped out in the streets of Paris in a Sonia Rykiel jacket over a sheer bodysuit with star-shaped pasties (for modesty, you know).

Heidi Klum
At the 2017 Video Music Awards, Heidi Klum wore a sheer gold, lace gown that showed major cleavage, along with most of her legs.

Jennifer Lopez
Last year, Jennifer Lopez walked the Latin Music Billboard Awards red carpet in a intense cut-out dress with a plunging neckline, and an extreme front slit. Yes, J.Lo is in here twice; she wears a lot of "naked dresses."

Aja Namoi King
The textured designs on Aja Naomi King's 2016 Governor's Ball dress almost hid the fact that it's completely see-through. But if you look closely, her black bra and underwear are visible.

JB Lacroix
Halsey left her shirt at home and, instead, opted to wear a bright orange Versace belt as a top to the 2017 iHeart Radio Music Awards.

Gabrielle Union
At the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, Gabrielle Union wore a Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2017 Haute Couture gown that looked like a normal black dress on one side, and an electric blue, two-piece swim suit on the other.

Lily Collins
Lily Colin wore a very revealing sheer, plunging Elie Saab gown to the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party—an event at which many celebrities choose to bring out their "naked dresses."

Hailey Baldwin
Hailey Baldwin's nude underwear are clearly visible thorough her metallic jumpsuit with a plunging V-neck at the 2017 VMAs.

Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian wore a completely sheer, white Givenchy couture gown to the New York premiere of Ocean's Eight, and her nude underwear weren't hard to miss.

Bebe Rexha
Bebe Rexha pulled off the ultimate illusion at the 2017 American Music Awards by wearing a sheer, sparkling, strapless dress with a full-length nude slip—there's no skin to see here.
