I’m never more hyper-aware of the fact that I have fine hair than I am in the summer. The second there’s even the slightest bit of humidity in the air, my hair goes slick to my scalp, looking flat, lifeless, and honestly, pretty greasy. That being said, I’m incredibly picky about my hair routine for fine hair. I refuse to use heavy oils or styling products; I stick exclusively to volume-boosting shampoos and conditioners, plumping root boosters, dry shampoos that give me a little extra lift, and hot tools that add some texture and movement.

Lucky for me (and you!), my foolproof fine hair routine has never been more affordable. My go-to products are currently all discounted for Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, which runs from today through August 9. It’s not a measly 20 percent off either. So many of my tried-and-trues are almost half off, so I am jumping on the opportunity to stock up. And I highly recommend you do too. Shop my foolproof fine hair routine below.

Because I use a decent amount of dry shampoo and volumizers, I need my shampoo to deliver a deep and thorough clean if I don’t want my scalp to rebel. That’s where this genius creation from hairstylist Mara Roszak comes in. It’s developed with a blend of botanicals, like ginger root and grape extract, to energize the scalp. Bonus: it preserves hair color, smells like a spa, and works up into a gorgeous foam.

Review: “I have thin hair that gets oily quickly (like shower every day level of oily) so was skeptical about this giving me a good enough cleanse while also keeping my color in tact. My hair so far has felt soft and clean, and while I do still have to wash it every other day, it doesn’t feel like there is any buildup or residue left behind.”

The Best Conditioner for Fine Hair

Conditioner is one of the trickiest products for fine hair. It needs to strike the balance between being deeply hydrating and delivering incredible shine, while also feeling lightweight enough that it doesn’t weigh down my hair to the point where it looks lifeless and void of volume. This particular option strikes the balance—just a little bit penetrates my hair cuticle, detangles, and leaves me with a silky texture.

Review: “Love the living proof brand and I already have so many of their products. I love the original dry shampoo and it is a go to product. I was excited to try this conditioner and it did not disappoint. This is such a viral brand for a reason. I love the way it makes my hair feel so soft and smooth. Highly recommend purchasing this and the shampoo.”

Best Dry Shampoo for Fine Hair

Detox Original Scent Dry Shampoo $44 Value

My dry shampoo criteria are tough. It’s a product I cannot live without—I even use it on a fresh blowout—so need it to deliver on all fronts. The Dry Bar’s formula is up there on my list because it never feels gritty, gives me instant volume, doesn’t leave white dust behind, and makes my hair feel genuinely clean, not caked with product. Plus, it’s more than $14 off, so there’s nothing to lose by testing it out for yourself.

Review: “It smells great and it truly works. I don't have to wash my hair for 3-4 days and I still looked like I have my life together. Thanks Dry Bar for giving me an extra 30 minutes to sleep in the morning. You changed my life. No more drugstore dry shampoo for this girl.”

Best Curling Iron for Fine Hair

Singlepass Curl X 1.25" Ceramic Extra-Long Barrel Curling Iron (Was $160)

Getting curls to last when you have fine hair is an art form. For starters, I make sure to use one of the best blow-dry balms and exclusively use this gorgeous curling iron. The ceramic barrel amps up shine, the extra-long barrel means I only need to do one pass, and the customizable heat settings ensure I don’t fry off my ends. It has a clip, but it’s so flush to the barrel that you can definitely use this as a wand, too.

Review: “Love this hair tool, I have very thick long blonde hair and it creates a wonderful curl! One tip, don't burn your fingers (I have twice) and use a heat protecting mat to set it on as the tip will touch your counter and it take a long time for this to cool down.”

    Best Hairspray for Fine Hair

Superfine Hairspray Duo Set $92 Value

    Oribe
Superfine Hairspray Duo Set (Was $92)
    $62

While the OG Oribe shampoo and conditioner might be a little heavy for my fine hair, I’ve found so many products in the range that are actually perfect. The thickening spray is a top contender, but this hairspray is my number one. It’s a medium hold suspended in an ultra-fine mist, making it perfect for locking in a curl without the tacky, sticky hairspray texture.

Review: “This product provides hold without stickiness. I have short, softly curly hair. A quick, controlled spritz after styling is all it takes. Don't need much. I am convinced most people use too much hair spray, anyway. Smell is pleasant, not offensive. Lasts a long time.”

    Best Brush for Fine Hair

    Ultimate Hairbrush Duo $31.48 Value

    Tangle Teezer
    Ultimate Hairbrush Duo (Was $31.48)

For years, I exclusively brushed my hair when it was wet because attempting to brush it dry would result in the poofiest hairstyle you’ve ever seen. That changed when I was introduced to Tangle Teezer. The teeth don’t fluff or snag—they just glide right through to bust up knots. I keep the full-size at home and the mini stays tucked away in my carry-on at all times

Review: “This a quality brush, use it every day. Spreads oil and serum throughout your hair well. If you’re on the fence, it’s a good buy. I would get it again. I have straight hair but it is long and gets tangled a lot.”

    Best Texturizer for Fine Hair

    Dryspun Texture Spray

    Bumble and bumble.
    Dryspun Texture Spray (Was $53)
    $34

I whip out a texture spray on two occasions: really humid days when I know my hair is going to fall flat and during special occasions when I want major volume. A few sprays of this make my hair look like it has double the thickness. Just a PSA: It is pretty gritty, so you’ll probably want to wash it out that night or the next morning.

Review: “For sure my go-to for volume with any hairstyle. Doesn’t make your hair sticky. Would buy a hundred times over. I’ve tried a lot of texture sprays and have come back to this one for years; I haven’t found a cheaper alternative. Love.”

Best Hair Growth Tool for Fine Hair

Trying to grow your hair? Same. I'm currently eyeing this hair growth device, which uses red and infrared LED technology, along with a scalp massager, to stimulate the scalp, increase circulation, and help reduce hair shedding. I know it might sound a little hokey, but there’s actually a decent amount of research proving that LED light therapy can have a positive effect on hair.

Review: "From the first few uses, my scalp felt healthier and more refreshed, and over time I’ve noticed my hair looks fuller and more voluminous. The LED therapy is soothing, and the brush itself feels amazing — like a mini spa treatment at home. It’s easy to use, well-designed, and fits perfectly into my self-care routine. I also appreciate how it stimulates the scalp without pulling or causing discomfort."
