The New MAC Red Lipstick Makeup Artists Are Obsessed With

Hint: It's not Ruby Woo.

As a beauty editor, I have to be sold hard on any "new" classic. But cult red lipstick is especially sacred and I never thought I'd see the day that MAC's most-Pinned-on-the-Internet Ruby Woo was knocked down a peg.

But as of late, it has some serious interfamily competition by way of the brand's Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Feels So Grand—a similar deep red that happens to be universally flattering. Plus, the smooth, liquid suede finish makes it so that it's really got a leg up in the long-lasting department while not feeling too dry or powdery.

While it dropped last year, we first fell in love with the shade when celebrity makeup artist Victor Henao painted it on Adriana Lima's famous pout for Elton John's Oscars party. Just when we thought her Brazilian complexion couldn't get glowier, the splash of blue-red adds next-level brightness.

Then, when we discovered via The Strategist that Girls character—and our perpetual style crush—Jessa (played by Jemima Kirke), wore the ultra-vivid hue throughout the season(courtesy of the show's makeup artist Patricia Regan), it made perfect sense. It stood out despite the show's intentionally dreary color scheme...

Finally, we surveyed Instagram and it basically confirmed what we already knew: There's really something to this neutral, yet eye-popping red on variety of skin tones. So if you're in the market for a new one, give this a try.
