Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars are taking us back, way back, into time, to the days of funk.
The two gold record aficionados have collaborated on, "Uptown Funk," the lead single from Ronson's forthcoming studio album, Uptown Special, and his first offering since the 2012's Olympic song "Anywhere In The World." It's also the first new material we've heard in a minute from Mars, who's been living it up on The Moonshine Jungle Tour, just adding to the thrill. The track will inevitably transport you to the dancing days of disco with its feel good lyrics: [Stylin', while in / Livin' it up in the city /Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent / Got kiss myself I'm so pretty] and contagious funk instrumentals that call to mind the likes of Michael Jackson and Prince circa the '70s and '80s.
Uptown Special, due out January 27, also features collaborations with Tame Impala, Mystikal, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon, and a slew of unknown gospel singers by way of Mississippi. According to , Ronson is currently putting the finishing touches on the album at Electric Lady Studios, built by Jimi Hendrix, in Greenwich Village. The British musician-producer and Mars are slated to perform the single on Saturday Night Live on November 22.
