Snapchat is the number-one destination for sending your friends embarrassing selfies that wouldn't see the light of day otherwise. And now, you can make those selfies even weirder, thanks to a new app update rolling out this week.
According to a blog post from the company, you can now put "lenses" on your selfies. To do it, you just go to take a selfie and press and hold on your face to active lenses. Then follow the instructions on the screen to get goofy effects, kind of like when you use a webcam on a computer. You can look like you're puking rainbows, or like you're a robotic assassin, just to name a few options.
Snapchat is also rolling out two updates you should know about. First, there's a "trophy case," which Business Insider reports will give you little badges depending on what you do on Snapchat, like taking snaps with the front facing flash on. It's a way to make Snapchat more like a game, and the company likely hopes this will keep you coming back.
But it's the second update that you'll want to pay attention to. Now if you pay Snapchat 99 cents, you get three "replays"–chances to view a snap a second time. That might spell bad news if you're sending unflattering (or worse, inappropriate) snaps that you think will instantly disappear. This means they won't, so someone can more easily screenshot your embarrassing moments for the world to see. It just goes to show the lesson still remains: Beware of what you post on the Internet.
