Trend alert! Are exposed stomachs back in? This season, I have been seeing a lot of tummy-baring outfits, from just an inch around the ribs to full-on-midsection-exposed ensembles.
These look great on the models, but can it translate into everyday street style for the average woman? Nanette Lepore had some great outfits that showed just a hint of stomach — enough to make you take a second look but not overly sexy. Michael Kors took it a bit further with a full stomach-baring top, although he makes it work paired with tailored pants and a matching jacket.
This trend has been popular on and off since the '60s — sometimes being trendy, sometimes trashy — but it seems to be coming back in style. This time, however, it looks to be more about just the hint of skin (unlike in the '90s), which is much more wearable for most women. I don't think this is the trend for the conservative woman, but for those who want to give it a try — and have the body confidence — it could be fashionable. I'm curious to see if it hits the streets this spring.
Tell Marie Claire: What do you think? Would you wear these outfits?
