It's a match made in prep heaven. Banana Republic is teaming up with Milly designer Michelle Smith for a limited-edition collection that will combine the mass retailer's polished, modern style with Milly's signature vintage-inspired prints and patterns. The capsule, inspired by the summer sophistication of the Hamptons, will launch in late May.
"We wanted to focus on the vibrant colors and optimistic patterns that highlight the inspiring, fun-loving summer season," Banana's creative director, Simon Kneen, says, noting Smith's knack for bold colors. "Her Hamptons-chic style is a new take on aspirational summer dressing for our consumers."
The more than 60-piece collection will incorporate a new, exclusive print, but it will also release updates on six beloved Milly prints. Buyers can expect everything from maxi dresses to mini-skirts … and menswear, an area that's new to the Milly brand.
"This was my first experience designing menswear, which was a cinch with Simon's expertise. It's a very positive, happy collection, and I think the colors and patters really capture the modern spirit of summer," Smith says.
Milly fans who can't afford the higher price tag — a typical blouse by the designer can go for $275 and a dress typically retails for more than $400 — will like the price range on this collab. Women's pieces go from $45 to $175, men's pieces will cost $25 to $64, and jewelry and accessories will go for $40 to $130.
