The tale of Proenza Schouler's relationship with Barneys New York is a true love story. The retailer bought Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's original 2002 Parsons thesis collection immediately after its presentation, and a year later, the pair now known as Proenza Schouler staged its first major runway show. That collection was a classic one, featuring what are now recognized as the brand's signature pieces — think bustier tops, structed outerwear, slouchy tees, and more. As is the sign of any designer, the items were timeless, even a decade later. Timeless enough, in fact, for Barneys to reissue that First Collection, which is available exclusively through the retailer this summer.
In honor of this milestone, Barneys New York's Madison Avenue windows have been totally revamped, thanks to the collaboration of Barneys' creative team and McCollough and Hernandez. Expect elements reminiscent of a high school science lab, alongside First Collection and other pieces from Proenza Schouler's archives.
