Big Girl in a Skinny World: More Boot Options for Large Calves

Hello Ladies:

As many of you already know, the January issue of Marie Claire is now on newsstands. My challenge this month was to find great boots that fit big calves. We included 3 of our favorite boots, but because you can never have too many options, I now have more to share. Many readers have flooded my inbox with amazing suggestions regarding where their favorite finds. I thought it only fair to share these worthwhile tips.

Reader Amy from Denver, Pennsylvania turned me on to a boot company called DUO, based in England, which specializes in custom boots. DUO’s motto is “style is nothing without fit”, and the company produces high quality boots made to order for us bigger girls. While they are a bit pricey—over $100 a pair—I am a huge proponent of investing in quality pieces. Michael Kors also has a pair of boots with an elastic calf ideal for a girl with a bigger calf. Rosita from Los Angeles, California informed me that Zappos.com, the online shoe warehouse, actually has a filter so you can select shoes specifically suitable for big calves. I checked it out and found a great pair from Fitzwell, one of the many brands they offer. For a more affordable option, plus size destination Avenue has a variety of options. Most importantly, all these boots can be put on without the sweat-inducing struggle that many boots require. Happy shopping!
