Pink Ladies: Promoting Peace

Have Italy's nuns ditched their old habits for more attention-getting garb?

Not really. These women, on Rome's Via del Corso, are activists on a campaign to promote tolerance and peace. The effort comes amid a controversy surrounding a recent government decision to allow groups of ordinary citizens to patrol the streets, in order to help the police protect neighborhoods from crime. Opponents argue that the groups are just vigilantes who want to intimidate immigrants. The "nuns," whose tour began in September, will hit Turin, Milan, Naples, and Palermo. No word yet on whether the Pope will make a cameo.
