This needs to happen.

Katy Perry, who was recently named the world's highest paid woman in music (opens in new tab), might be taking on an arguably more prestigious honor: reprising the iconic role of Cher Horowitz in the upcoming Clueless musical.

Amy Heckerling, who directed the 1995 film and is heading its musical adaptation, opened up to Vulture (opens in new tab) about her dream choice to play the part first made famous by Alicia Silverstone. "I love Katy Perry," she said, before revealing that the pop star has already "expressed interest" in filling Cher's satin Jimmy Choos. Needless to say, we are totally buggin' over this.

But before you start buggin' too hard (or even think about pre-ordering your tickets for the production's 2016 premiere in NYC), Heckerling has admitted that her plan for Perry to star in the show is a full-on Monet. To quote Cher: "From far away, it's OK, but up close, it's a big old mess."

"You never know what will happen, she has a whole big schedule," Heckerling explained of the problem with casting the "California Gurls" singer; adding that her initial response to the offer was more optimistic than official: "It was like, I love it, I wish I could do it."

While it remains uncertain if Perry will make her Broadway debut in yellow plaid-on-plaid, what we do know is that Clueless' stage revival will be comprised entirely of modern pop songs (inevitably inclusive of a Katy Perry hit) and will be styled (opens in new tab) by the movie's original costume designer, Mona May.

Which is why we're still holding out hope for KP. Because with her killer pipes—and such an affinity for '90s fashion (opens in new tab)—is there anyone else better suited to bring Cher back to life? As if!
