It's been almost two decades since the first Charlie's Angels movie came out—the less said about its 2003 sequel the better—which in Hollywood terms means it's about due for a remake. But the casting rumors are actually kind of intriguing.
Per Variety, Kristen Stewart is being eyed for one of the three lead roles, as is Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o. Elizabeth Banks, who's continuing her segue from acting into directing following the success of Pitch Perfect 2, is on board to direct the project. The involvement of a female director is one more reason to feel surprisingly good about this project.
It's not clear from the report whether Sony, the studio behind Charlie's Angels, would simply like Stewart and Nyong’o for these roles, or whether the actresses have actually expressed an interest. It's been a long time since Stewart starred in a blockbuster; she's worked mostly in indies since 2012, which saw the release of both the final Twilight installment and Snow White and the Huntsman. And though Nyong'o plays Maz Kanata in the Star Wars series, this would be her first non-CGI blockbuster role.
So assuming Stewart and Nyong'o are both on board, who should play the third Angel? And what about Charlie? Start your wish-lists here.
