Are you sick of charging with wires, and gravity? Well, the suffering could be coming to an end.
Either through some dark magic or cool tech (I'm pretty sure it's tech), you could soon be charging your phone while it levitates.
The OvRcharge device is currently gaining traction on Kickstarter, already halfway towards its $40,000 goal at the time of writing. As the video below shows, the system is comprised of two main components—a wood charging base and a nifty phone case that features an induction receiver and a magnet.
The casing appears to be fairly standard, though whether the bevelled magnet can be detached and allow the case to be used externally isn't clear.
Interestingly, when the battery does reach capacity, the charging will stop and the phone will continue to levitate and spin slowly.
With so many different-sized smartphones on the market, though, not all will be levitation compatible. AR Designs, the magicians behind the voodoo, says it will offer cases for the most popular smartphones (read: Apple and Samsung), but others will have to find some sort of third party solution.
Backers currently have a $150 option for an early bird unit though it's always wise to hold your horses on a Kickstarter. The technology here is sound—this sort of induction charging trick has been shown off successfully before—but there's no telling if the charger will make it to market on time, or at all. But if it does, it sure seems like it'd look cool on your dresser.
