This $8 Old Navy Tank Top Is My Summer Superhero—Here’s How I Style It

Last summer, I stumbled upon what would become a superhero in my summer wardrobe: This ribbed tank top from Old Navy. Originally priced at $15, they were on sale for $8—an excuse to stock up in every color if I’ve ever seen one. And I’m so glad I did, because I ended up wearing them all. The. Time. The silhouette and scalloping on the tanks reminded me of the styles I wore in the ‘90s, and they worked just as well when layered as on their own.

I’m so obsessed with this tank top that I checked whether Old Navy had brought it back and was thrilled to find it in new patterns and colors for Summer 2026. I stocked up yet again, doubling my collection in one fell swoop. (I will say that last year's styles were 100-percent cotton, which I loved because they got better with every wash; this year, there’s a little spandex mixed in, so they’re not as soft, which is a slight bummer.)

Still, I plan on wearing the versatile $8 tank nonstop, just as I did from last June through September. Here’s how I'll be styling this humble tank top for every occasion in the coming months.

Once again, my trusted men’s Ralph Lauren button-downs, stockpiled en masse from Poshmark, play a key role. (They’re more versatile than you think!) I wear them completely unbuttoned and pair them with a contrasting-color tank underneath. I love the way the colors pop against a white jean—it’s a fresh take on my go-to work uniform.

Weekend Ready

Like pretty much everyone else with a TV and a Pinterest board, I’ve been very into ‘90s fashion lately. (Yes, I have copied a few moves from Love Story.) I’ve been drawn to the idea of twinsets, but I like creating my own sets by mixing and matching materials or patterns; that way, I’m ready if the AC is blasting at the movies, or, worse, when it’s malfunctioning on the train.

Dressing It Up

I’ve been in the middle of a Sex and the City rewatch, and I’m feeling super inspired by how Carrie Bradshaw styles her tank tops, especially in seasons 2 and 3: eye-grabbing accessories, a flash of a bright bra strap, and a fun skirt. It’s a move I plan on copying all summer long.
