If you've ever thrown a couple of ice cubes into your white wine because oops you're a human and you forgot to chill it, and then people were like "uh, that's trashy," and then you were like GET OUT OF MY LIFE and gulped down your drink anyway—you know the Wine Shade is real. But turns out, you're just a step ahead of the game, my friends.
While wine spritzers have pretty much always been a thing, turns out, champagne over ice is a *new* thing for 2016. Inspired by "La Piscine," a popular St. Tropez beachgoer practice of dropping ice cubes into champagne to keep it cool (take that, trashy name-callers), some brands are taking it a step further by making champagne specifically for the purpose of serving it over ice.
Moët & Chandon have their Ice Imperial, the first champagne meant to be iced, which features a bright, crisp taste with hints of raspberry, nectarine, and mango. They also have a new rosé version, which just makes rosé season that much better. Pro tip: Throw in some fruit or extras (like mint or ginger) for a well-rounded cocktail.
Veuve Clicquot also has a new champagne that's better served with some ice—Veuve Clicquot Riche. A bubbly "dedicated to mixology," the idea is that you serve it in a big glass with some ice cubes while also throwing in some cut-up fruit, veggies, or even spices to take it to the next level.
So boom. Champagne over ice = classy, not trashy. Now if only we could get everyone on board with red wine and cola.
