Celebrities Urge You to #GetCovered

Share

The government may be shutdown, but the Affordable Care Act is up and running and celebrities are pleading for everyone to #GetCovered. A diverse band of pop culture icons including Pharrell, Amy Poehler, John Legend, Lady Gaga, and many more took to Twitter to expresses their support for and the importance of the Affordable Care Act.

Olivia Wilde tweeted: ".@billyeichner and I made this beautiful sign. It took hours. We are serious. Get your health care on. #GetCovered." These celebs really want today's youth to be informed about the new act and proactive in taking control over their health.

"Young people: sign up for healthcare. Take it from me--YOU ARE NOT IMMORTAL," warned comedian, John Hodgman, to almost one million Twitter followers.

Hodgman followed his tweet with a blog post saying that, "all I meant to do was encourage healthy young people and the other people in the world who think they are immortal, who think that health insurance is a luxury that isn’t worth affording, to give that assumption some critical thought, and take advantage of the exchanges to see what their options are."

Celebrities know full well that when they Instagram their newest hair cut, a thousand fans will run out and get the same 'do. Using social media is an effective tactic to encourage American citizens to get health insurance while they are still young and healthy.

"The reach of these national stars spreads beyond the beltway to fans of their television shows, movies, and music – and the power of these artists to speak through social media is especially critical," a White House Official said.
