I wasn't sure how we'd ever be able to top Day 2 of Fashion Week, but Day 3 somehow managed to do just that! Elle and I saw lots of shows today, kicking it off with Cynthia Rowley. The opening outfit to strut down the runway was a beautiful invisible grey and blue striped sweater across a seemingly "invisible" fabric that took my breath away. Her fabrics were flowing and gorgeous. Many of the models wore these chic double necklaces that I can't wait to snatch up for spring. I also loved the bold horizontal stripes across lots of the tops and dresses that gave this collection an extra pop.
The day went by like a quick blur with fashionistas parading around the tents and models walking designs down the runways. We also saw Adam Lippes and the Vivienne Tam show. We loved all the upbeat music and fun clothes, but my favorite show of the day was Z Spoke by Zac Posen.
It was definitely a star-studded event: Kimora Lee Simmons, Russell Simmons, Michelle Trachtenberg, Claire Danes, Rashida Jones, Kristen Cavallari, Coco Rocha, Shenae Grimes, Carmen Electra, James King ... you get the drift. Let's just say we were a little starstruck. Most shows start 30 to 45 minutes late, but Z Spoke started relatively close to the set time of 7 p.m. (PS: Another thing you should know about fashion shows is that while it's obvious that a lot of work goes into them, they're over in 10 to 15 minutes.)
That being said, Mr. Posen's show managed to clock in in about half of that time, making it the quickest runway show I've ever seen. It was by far the most fun show I've ever experienced. The music was so upbeat and fun that pretty much everyone couldn't help but to dance in their seats, and all of the models were walking to the beat of the music!
His clothes were genius designs that I could see myself wearing. There were definitely some pieces that were made for the runway and some that were more real-girl appropriate. Lots of the dresses had cool geometric cutouts and designs, and all of the models had really bright, crazy makeup on. (Either yellow eyes with a black cut crease, or green smoked-out eyes that faded all the way back to the hairline.) My favorite piece from the line was a scoop neck, apple print graphic tee with a deep green blazer on top, but the black finale gown on supermodel Hilary Rhoda came in as a close second.
Kimora Lee Simmons was the first to give Zac a much-deserved standing ovation, and many followed suit. Well done Zac. Keep checking back on MarieClaire.com for more Fashion Week updates!
